Dubas has made some good moves and some really bad ones... Getting Campbell and Muzzin for nothing, was genius...

Trading my favourite prospect, after Lilly, for a bag of pucks, was horrible...That would be Mason Marchment... Who has six points in eight games...

That really irks me to this day.

losing McCann was brutal as well....Brutal..

Signing pie head Ritchie, a clone of Gauthier, was also brutal...

Signing Marner for anything over 8 million, was ridiculous...Guy is an rfa, let him go to the khl for the rest of his career you idiot...

But we have to remind ourselves, its not purely hockey any more it never really was, its the business of hockey....

Obviously from a branding aspect, Dubas was ordered from above to sign the three stars, no matter what, don't let them sit out...

I really think he has to get Shanahan to sign off on anything semi major...All the time...

Shanahan yes, should be far more in our sight lines for a sniper shot..

And why did Shanahan go with the greenhorn cause the greenhorn, like my former best friend, Gord Stellick would do as he was asked, however reluctant to do so..

Marchment is a product of the development system Shanahan told Dubas to lead so I guess it's not a complete loss. At least it's evidence the system works.

Barb Underhill leaving her skating instructor post with Leafs ... Game Night Bruins | National Post :

Mason Marchment came into the organization (in 2015) and no one thought he’d make it. He also had so many injuries, he’d just get back in the lineup and blow out his shoulder or something"

A Toronto native, Underhill was not envisioning departure from the team she cheered for as a kid. But as her influence spread and incoming GM Kyle Dubas broadened player development to an even larger scope, Underhill was stretched thin.

“That was just the detail in the way the Leafs wanted it to run — every player on an individual program,” she said. “It’s turned into a 24/7, 12-month, fully-immersive role."

Specifically to the bolded, I wouldn’t say he got Muzzin for nothing. He traded a 1st round pick that eventually became Tobias Bjornfot who is now 20 years old playing 18+ minutes in the NHL.

Kings got what appears to be a top 4 d man for the next decade.

"Rather go with the player we were developing over Amadio" is not considered a valid argument here :sarcasm: I had no idea about this article, wish it existed during the Brooks war.

Would have been funny making Pro-every Leafs move have to counter a Leafs system headed by Dubas

Sorry to see Barb go, I watched her every day on my lunch hour at the Granite Club, when she was world champion. She worked out like a dog then as well she surely does deserve a break..

All the best to her..Hope her replacement is within her abilities.

No. IMO he caved on Nylander and that set the stage for Marner and Matthews. He was given a golden ticket with all 3 of them on entry level deals and he overpaid them all. Great players but collectively we should have 5-10M that could have been used on other players. We have all waited a LONG time for a really good team and we had/have one but we can't build it to be any better b/c of contracts.

That being said, he does make some good trades.

I think he's maneuvered the team fairly well. Most of my ire lands on a couple of players.

I keep thinking back to the Montreal series as a microcosm of the essence of this franchise. We got major offensive contributions from the bottom six. Our goaltending was superb. Our defense, best series they've ever played. William Nylander was in hero mode. And when the rubber met the road? Crickets, from the top line.

Dubas has been GM long enough that this is unarguably his team, and the pieces he's installed around the roster are largely functioning to the level expected by them. All except the most important part. And I struggle to blame him for it, because Marner and Matthews fooled me too.

because Marner and Matthews fooled me too.
Ultimately, you don't demand the overpay money both these players asked for unless you don't care about affordability of solid teammates.

How Marner wasn't bridged is beyond me. It was 100% clear all the stars aligned for Marner's final year before negotiations. How people even 1/2 expbected Marner could live up to his demands baffles me. Bridge or trade were the ONLY options. Of course Dubas said all along he wanted long term deals only .. which was stupid in and of itself

Is this team better with Tavares and Kerfoot @ 14.5 million? Or

Kadri(4.5), Kapanen(3.2), Connor Brown (3.6) @ 11.3 million with 3.2 left over to add to Hymans 2.25 to retain him.

Dubas chose the first option.
I'm good with it.

Marchment for Malgin

That trade made no sense the day it happened. While I wouldn’t say Marchment was a top prospect by any means, it was interesting to see him yet that one game call up. Then they roll the dice on a completely unnecessary transaction. What’s worse is there wasn’t even a game plan with Denis Malgin other than giving him the Nic Petan audition.

Why develop an asset, bail on the asset and then have no plan to do anything with the return?

Catalysts, create big movement in momentum... I didn't make any money from this call, whatsoever, but I DID point out, what I thought was the game changer for the short to medium term, for the Toronto Maple LEAFS..

Did I CHEAT, a bit, yeah I did, because this move motivated me to pull up a mountain, another bag of twenty pounds of unfounded Leaf favoritism and fan based behaviour...

Dubas, signed up, the most popular Leaf, in the Leaf dressing room. All the players love Mo, all of them, his personality creates no enemies, just friends, and his ability to skate the puck in at the very least, neutral territory, creates a huge sigh of relief, every time...

So just gonna say the players were relieved and thrilled to see the MOMO signed up for a long period of time...

I didn't count on Campbell channeling Bernie Parent or even cujo/belfour, but suffice to say I think the team is jacked, lool, no pun intended...

Relaxed team now, enjoying nuts absolute nuts like Ondrej Kase, almost being suicidal a la Glenn Andersen, and new nuts as well like Bunting...

The whole team, the whole organization and most of Sweden is freaking with the duo of Sandin and Liljegren by the way....

Justin Holl doesnt sell jerseys, hats, tv time, hats,m t shirts,..

Lilly and Sandy...... Crushing it overseas and thankfully on the ice...

The creativity these guys have injected, over the whole team is infectious, fun and man, I am sure dialing in to see what happens next.,..

Wayne Gretzky in particular, made every teammate on his team so so much better.

Well Marner, Matthews, those two kids on defence and Campbell have this team looking like, eeeek, a, well lets not talk about it yet...

Fun team to watch and seeing Muzzin doll that guy in the third, well, I bet every old timer who loves old time hockey got a woodie over that play... lol

Still early, but, Dubas made a great move signing up the favourite guy in the locker room....

Look who appears to be Kadri's best man in this video, but probably Nazem was obliged to bring on his brother or someone else officially..

Love this video, love Nazem forever....Love the music here...

Can anyone show me a video of a top NHL player that has generously shown this much personal interface...

Me can not.,...

Look at the guy holding hands on the left of Kadri, and to the right, Mo, and Jake..

I loved JAKE bit time, but Dubas and Shanahan rightly made a huge decision, as great as Jake was, his hip was pretty smoked...

Anyways my main point is, is that Kadri, a forward, felt closest to MO and Jake,

Pretty cool he had Matthews there as well.

If Tanenbaum can keep Matthews satisfied, such as private jet to Arizona for his family and friends whenver he wants, he might be able to keep this guy here.....

Circumvent the cap, be creative and if its legal, do it constantly...

Dubas is starting to make better moves, or should I say Shanabus is making better moves...

As soon as SHANABUS, gets topi niemela and one other Finn on the team, he will be the branding genius mlse has drooled over....

If Josh HO SANG, gets into sick shape for the first time in his life, and gets called up, this franchise might go up 30 percent in value...

But goalie, goalie, goalie, and wow, we seem to have something really great there...

Lol, Campbell ufa, man, what will he command, and he is almost 30, and he IS american...

He could almost anything for five to six years. Almost anything based on current play...

And personality...

I don’t know if he’s the right GM, I do think he’s made more good moves then bad.

I also don’t think it’s fair that he’s judged for the cap not going up when it came to player retention strategy. The cap would easily be another 5-6 million higher.

No one saw a flat cap thanks to a global pandemic.

When it comes to the two swedes playing together, we all know, Shanahan loved the FAB five from Sweden on Detroit...

The kids playing and playing really well... Well that has given the Leafs a great new look...

Campbell morphing into Curtis Joseph, well even better...

Campbell keeps this up, ughhh, nuther huge contract looming in the off season....

Guy could command, really huge bucks. and at his age, its his last contract of note...

Correct and some GM's responded better to it.

And some GM's weren't as totally vulnerable to it in the first place.

Thanks for showing that video. I've never seen it before. I have some ties to Lebanon from my wife's side of the family. It was touching to see the Leafs dance like that. I almost teared up. LOL That video made me like Mitch again.

He has his warts just like every GM, personally where he has failed the most were the contracts for the big 3 and JT. As said many times he paid about 2-3 million more than he should have.

He as a GM has been the most affected by the Pandemic and Flat Cap. Signing 4 very big stars just before what was a rising cap has been devastating for his maneuverability for this team. I am pretty sure he and Pridham thought they would be dealing with a 90-95 million dollar cap. That being said he has rebuilt our D core and found some great value in some players like Campbell for little cost. Getting the Rielly contract and some of the other contracts done at reasonable AAV’s has been seen as growth moments for his acumen as a GM. If he can lock up Campbell for a very reasonable AAV my opinion will change drastically.

Lastly it appears that we got a kid ready to take a permanent role (Liljegren) and there are some great prospects in the system. Not elite but great, if Amirov, Niemela and Robertson can translate their game to the NHL which I think they will our cap crunch will be soon be over and a much needed injection of talent up and down the lineup will be there.

If all the teams make up the game advantage the leafs have on them they are on the outside looking in. Obviously still very close and tight. I stand by my earlier stance that it will come down to them winning a playoff series.

This win streak has been great more so because they are winning playoff hockey style games so gives me some hope. At the end of the day I need to see results in the playoffs for me to believe in Dubas and his vision with the big 4.
