He signed a fair contract. Rielly is a less than ideal #1, and 7.5 is just about right for him.
I think most know I'm not a Dubas fan at all. This is a good deal. Problem is imho he's a #2 and it doesn't solve any current problems. We still need a back-end leader. Reily isn't that guy. And we have no cap space to get one.

He’s like the 20th best defenseman in the league right now. That’s a lower-end #1.

I do agree that we need another impact defenseman, but we’d need two if Rielly left. Muzzin looks to be aging very poorly.

Not at all. He drug Nylander through the mud on the core philosophy of ensuring the big 3 (at the time) all took fair deals to ensure the rest of the team could be kept together. He held this philosophy, even though it was tough on everyone. Then made a great deal on Willy. He then chose to abandon this philosophy and did the exact opposite with the other big 2, and then overpaid JT. I don't wanna hear anything about the JT contract being fair. I and a lot of people said at the time it wasn't a good move. Him paying AM-MM-JT crippled the depth and we lost legit good NHL players like Connor Brown, Nazem Kadri, KK, AJ, Hyman and a slew of others and Dubas every year has to sign WW and past their prime guys to fill the roster out every year. The only way dubas can redeem himself is to deal marner, who is a god awful player in the playoffs, which is the teams achilles heel. It's not just the fact that he gets paid 11, it's that he sucks in the playoffs and takes up more ice time than any other forward, including the PP, which stinks. He might score 90 points this season but it's obvious to anyone who watches, he's a liability out there. Him and Dubas must be extra tight, which is why we need a GM who will put that aside and do what's best for the team.

you said we lost good players then named Kapenen, Kadri, Johnson among others. All of which are not good players. Kadri sure but with 3 playoff suspensions now he’s useless.

I'll believe in him a lot more if we win even 1 playoff round this playoffs. Some semblance of progress for the Leafs would make the insane contracts to the players stomachable

It would make letting McCann be taken for Justin freaking holl digestible

We need results. Time for patience is done. This is do or die for this leafs core and management. They've failed 3 times, and a 4th should end with a major organization change

I will concede a bit. I used them to emphasize my greater point. I will defend the kadri selection though.

this means the next GM has a hell of tough job to do trying to improve the team with the way Dubas has set up the cap

I never wanted it to get to this but I'm finding myself rooting for short term failure in order to hit an exit on this dead end highway we're on. This theoretical next GM will simply (or not so simply) have to make that trade Dubas refuses to entertain.

Yea.... so tell the players to stop effing yapping about "Lessons" and freakin' play already!

Maple Leafs can silence critics only by winning, GM says

"I don't think anybody wants to hear any words [from us]," Dubas said Friday, two days after the Maple Leafs (3-4-1) won for the first time in five games. "I think it's all in our actions and how we play, our focus, our work ethic, our attention to detail. The four games where we didn't play well at all, everyone saw it, there's no reason to run or hide from it but I think everyone is tired of hearing from us about what we are going to do and how we are going to do it."

This I kind of agree with. It feels like when you know a couple is going to get divorced because they bicker in public all the time, yet are starting to go to counseling to fix it. You know it's not going to work and they are wasting their time..but they have to do it to pretend they tried everything.

We all know in the end that the Big 3 (4) can't stay together ...we can't keep bleeding talent away to keep them...but yet they are going to try for a while. I would rather this just straight out collapse now and get it over with.

That's his problem.

He can't add.

Man he sure is good at subtracting.

Off the top of my head he's subtracted Kadri, Hyman, Freddie, Kapanen, Marchment, Moore, McCann, 1st round pick, 1st round pick, 1st round pick, and the list goes on...

Can't wait to see who else gets subtracted next off-season to keep the $58 million Five together!

Did we just criticize Dubas for not being able to add and then proceed to add up those contracts to 58 million?
