Wouldn't surprise me if he asked for a trade and I wouldn't blame him, we have a lot of D depth (giggity). Kostin seems like he will probably end up in the KHL eventually. He might get some games in the NHL but doesn't sound like he's a full time NHL player.

Kostin can play oh and he’s tough. A lot more suited for bottom 6 than a player like Benson.

Read wrong.
Benson is fine in a pest and playmaking role on the 4th line. Kostin has a pretty good shot and decent hands while also being able to crash and bang. He will likely have to be engaged physically because of how much shit Benson stirs up. I feel like they could compliment each other very well actually.

I doubt that we gave up Samorukov for nothing. Kostin is around the same age, makes league minimum (this really helps our cap situation) and is big and can play physical. This is the player and role that we were hoping that Virtanen would fill. He will get a shot on our 4th line, I'm pretty sure of it.

They were drafted same year, same level of development. I feel like this is both guys change of scenery trade before they both go back to Russia in the off season

Huh? How do you know he’ll never amount to anything? It was a need for need trade where both teams had a surplus of the player they gave up

23 year old forwards who haven't found their legs in the NHL, but then turn into good NHL'ers are a rare breed. It can happen, sure, but its very unlikely. The same cannot be said about 23 year old D. It is quite common for them to become everyday NHL players after this age.

They already have like 10 depth defensemen.
Nurse, Kulak, Ceci and Barrie are signed for next season and Bouchard should also be back. That leaves 2 open spots next season and I could see both Broberg and Niemelainen having those spots over Samorukov.

He’ll be a decent injury callup.

I’d say a fourth line of Foegele-Shore-Ryan is a foregone conclusion for Day 2.

Change of scenery trade.

I don’t know much about Kostin but looks like he has some nice size and tools.

Russians just don’t seem to do well for us for whatever reason, so I don’t mind it.

Nvm I see Kostin is Russian too. Ehhh. Thought he was Czech for some reason.

It's a trade between two teams with surplus depth. I don't see either guy being a top 6 forward or top 4 D. We're talking bottom 6F and depth defenseman here. I didn't see a future for Samorukov here so I welcome Kostin's addition and hope that he fills in that 4th line RW spot admirably for us.

We are talking depth forward and depth defender. Kostin isn’t a bottom 6 forward at this point. I do hope for the best for him though.

Russian for Russian.

Need for need.

23 year old for 23 year old.

Samourukov much more likely to end up a regular NHLER at thus point but right now that is nothing but speculation.

Helps us for cap and provides toughness on the 4th line...

Not a good trade but understandable why we did it.

I like Samorukov but he hasn’t shown that he can make the NHL, let alone be consistent enough to stay. Probably another C Jones but less offensive ability and more truculence (yes the players are different).

I know basically nothing about the player. Both the Oilers release and his NHL.com page show him as a centre. If he's indeed a centre it's probably not a bad trade I'm thinking. Does anyone know how. much C he's played in the NHL?
