The platform is being built for the next coach. Played a good game after such a long layoff without our #1 dman. Those 3 months to start the season destroyed us. Just glad to have an NHL level head coach with us now.
Two 0-5 road trips destroyed the season. 0 out of a possible 20 points. Even 6 or 7 points and we have a legit chance if we finish strong

Agreed. A few loser points along the way would have helped so much, no way this team should be below buffalo or mtl at this juncture.

I’m not giving up hope just based on the play the last month but we dug ourselves quite a sizable hole to get out of…

The sad thing is that the horrendous start was virtually predictable!

Unfortunately our new POHO believed that patience and stability was the solution.

It wasn't really a horrendous start. The first 0-5 road trip was games 24-28. The second one was games 33-37. At game 22, we were 11-11. Not a hot start, but certainly not horrendous either.

I think relative to expectations it was pretty disappointing, we had a pretty light, home game heavy, start to the season, though arguably the qoc was above average. Add to that expectations were that we had turned the corner and were supposed to be a playoff team.

The road trips did kill us though, I'll give you that for sure, it was all just a bump in the road until they derailed everything.

It was actually a hot start iirc. Scoring 5 goals a game and playing exciting fun hockey. I remember the Washington game in particular (was that where it went south? After that one?)

Edit: here we go. Hotncold

You're all doom & gloom. Try to cheer up. Turn that frown upside down.
I just accept the reality that the Math is showing us..... and if the Sens by some miracle make the playoffs, I will be on board.... but it's just not going to happen this year... these sites that calculate the playoff odds have a pretty impressive track record ... have consulted them for at least 10 years, and can't remember any other exception than the Blues.

Sens were sitting at home, watching the Super Bowl and lost ground in their quest for the playoffs

Depends on which website you want to believe I believe moneypuck has us at 8%. Don't get me wrong that's still low, just pointing out that all these odd setting websites are very different

D.J. Smith blamed himself, the schedule, the refs, the bounces, injuries, jet lag - everything but the players.

Jacques Martin out the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of the players and they were sad for 2 weeks but it worked.

Bryan Murray was 100% correct, players want coaching and to be challenged and want to get better and be told - DJ mever out the responbikity on the players and it cost us a playoff spot this season

All Jacques needed to do, or should have been tasked with doing, is coaching the guys on the ways to play the game. That's what they need.

He's succeeding in that, they are playing the correct way, and are not getting away with the things they were before.

Accountability is one of the most powerful tools in a coaches arsenal.

We were always gonna look better when the guys started playing half ass defence and the goalie saved more than 75% of shots.

Too bad rookie GM Dorion and rookie coach DJ weren't fired earlier, we would be in a much better situation
Let's see how the draft goes. Maybe we get a cornerstone with a high pick or win the lottery and this is seen as a blessing.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to tell people about this. It's been obvious for quite some time.

Spilt Milk is, spilt milk.

We cannot go back.. The; would have, should have, could have, is not applicable.

Jacques is here, he has some 35 games to teach them structured hockey. A new guy this summer, should benefit from that and hopefully 2024/205 is the start of FYOUS.

Those that do not know history, will repeat its mistakes.

Teams need to have an analytics department and a history department. A person(s) who analyses teams from 1917 outwards and examines patterns.. Ironic, as I write this, I realize, analytics!!!! only in historical trends...

Martin Saint Louis of the Habs, quoted a line from a French Priest, Hyacinthe Loyson, he altered it to: Rarely do those who plant the tree, sit under its shade.

Quote Investigator: The earliest match known to QI appeared in a sermon by French theologian Hyacinthe Loyson delivered in Paris in 1866. Boldface added to excerpts by QI:
Ces arbres qu’il plante et à l’ombre desquels il ne s’assoira pas, il les aime pour eux-mêmes et pour ses enfants, et pour les enfants de ses enfants, sur qui s’étendront leurs rameaux.
The sermon was translated into English and published in 1870. Hyacinthe Loyson approvingly described the actions of the proto-farmer:
These trees which he plants, and under whose shade he shall never sit, he loves them for themselves, and for the sake of his children and his children’s children, who are to sit beneath the shadow of their spreading boughs.

One of those geniuses behing the bench has to figure out the powerplay. For starters, they should watch John Norris PP goals for the last few years. That would be a hell of a start

Jacques's next task is to improve the powerplay, I was encouraged to see him tweak the lines around (Stutzle at PP2 for the time being) to make it more balanced while giving them different looks.

Stutzle, Batherson, and Norris will need to pick up their game in man advantage, Chabot is prone to gaffes but when Sanderson returns PP1 and PP2 will have the foundation to be build a solid 1-2 punch to convert on more power plays.

Powerplay looked good against the Leafs when we could actually set up, just didn’t convert.

Our entries are brutal though. Entirely predictable, and when we do the drop back it’s never with speed. Other teams back us off the blue line with speed, we weave and dance rather than use speed and other teams hold the line. Then we do the same forced pass every time, or just bail and dump it in for a 50:50 retrieval. Once in a blue moon someone takes advantage of a line change or deeks to the centre, and we actually get a set up.

Norris clearly doesnt fully trust his shoulder yet. Full power 1Ts are probably the scariest move to make after a major shoulder injury.
