So Korea blanks Japan and is the new number 1 in Asia. Japan faces Poland in the last game of the tournament for the probable relegation battle.

In the meantime Austria is winning 3-0 against Italy at the end of the 2 period.
That would most likely be the second defeat against the two teams that are obviously better, no upsets this year.
Against this Korea a much much better pp and pk will be needed.
Anyways Frigo and Scandella seem to be the only two players in the roster that are able to shot on the net, all the others tend to miss the goal by meters. This team has some serious goal scoring problem.
Austria is a sensibly better team and is playing accordingly.

Ok, a power play goal is clearly too much to be asked, but would it be possible to see at least one power play shot on goal?

Austrian fans are quite a bit discontented with the win and rightfully so but I feel it was 4:0 before it was 4:2, not enough to complain about.

To me it seemed that Austria did exactly what had to do, except for getting relaxed a little too early.
From the italian side this was quite a step back from the match against Slovenia and Poland. As long as Austria has been focusing on the match the italians have been pretty much helpless.
Plus I have seen countless turnover, missed passes and floppy plays, it did not happen in the previous two matches.

Anyway, I should have started complaining about the pp goals before, it clearly worked!

Komarek has been skating around with the puck in the italian zone for a whole shift, completely unstoppable..That was impressive

He does that, he's pretty good, moving to the SHL next year. Fans are complaining about Herburger but he was good against Japan. I think it's Poland next, just take care of business really...

As far as news, Lukas Haudum got an assist, he's one of our 18 year old stars, first point in an official IIHF tournament.

Poland has the wrong goalie on. There always needs to be a scapegoat, we suck isn't good enough of one, but goalie is the wrong scapegoat, I feel a gong show coming despite the current score.

on slovenian broadcast it was mentioned that there are some conflicts in poland locker room.

Whatever Poland did in the locker room, looks like it worked. 4-1 Poand at end of 2nd period. Poland finally playing at the level they should be, don't know what took them so long. Now they have to effectively finish off the match.

This game opens up the races for promotion and relegation. Italy is not safe anymore and while Austria is in the best position, South Korea could easily get a place at the WC next year.

If Poland wins they will face a cautious no-nonsense Austrian squad tomorrow and Korea will face an angry Slovenian squad. It could still easily be a recipe for typical ascent.

Slovenia definitely looks like a team that belongs in Div I.

Koreans were a lot faster and they played with more purpose earlier today, so I wouldn't bet on Slovenia to win vs. Korea tomorrow. Not sure how being angry is going to improve their chances.

this team isn't the team from before, complacency is definitely an issue here, hope our guys will give their best against Korea.
Don't like Team Can...Korea, hope that will be our redemption match.

Important not to make too many conclusions off of one game. Despite the score Korea was manhandled by Austria the entire first game, even down 2 in the third I knew we'd come back and win just regulation or extra time and it took extras unfortunately. Korea beat the Japan team earlier today 3-0 that Slovenia beat 7-1. Slovenia is still much better and they're missing people. Taking their opponent seriously as no longer the defacto Champs will definitely change a lot. Problem with Slovenia is they have no depth. Missing Kopitar, Mursak, and Rodmans are gone there's no next generation. After that be like Pesut...Koblar...

Poland have underwhelmed but this would be a big win. Pleased to see them rebound. Things have opened up a bit.

I saw the Slovenia-Japan game too. The Slovenians are trying to pull off the same tricks against Poland - stickhandling their way through people while moving slower than my grandma. It worked against Japan, it's not working now. The Poles aren't all midgets and they don't have a sieve-like goalie either.

The Korean goalie is the X factor here. If he continues to play at such a high level, Slovenians might be in trouble. They're not going to be the favorites, obviously, but the point is that this is nowhere near the domination we were supposed to see by Team Slovenia.

Well what you described was basically Jan Urbas and why he never made the NHL. Still don't see Korea advancing but I guess it's possible.
