They didn't retcon any of the prequels, they won't do that for the sequels. I think they know they had a big opportunity and they dropped the ball, but you don't have to revisit it unless you want to. It seems like they would be doing more work to retcon the sequels and trying to do these weird loops to try and explain a weird ass force multiverse. Just go really far into the future/past if you want to distance themselves from the trilogies, its a lot easier.

I read that rumor several days ago and brushed it aside (though the possibility amused me). Since then, Google on my phone has been inundating me with more (at least half a dozen) other articles about it. I haven't read them to see if they all have the same source, but the rumor is definitely one of the hottest topics right now.

They're likely not going to retcon the sequel trilogy until they have a good reason to do so... i.e. a movie or series that they want to make that they couldn't, otherwise. For example, say that Favreau wants to make a series similar to The Mandalorian, but about Luke coming out of retirement to mentor a young Jedi and go on adventures with. I could see something like that because fans love Mark Hamill and he loves the character and the franchise so much that he'd surely return (despite saying that he's done playing Luke, which I think was more a reaction to being killed off and not wanting to play a Force ghost of Luke any more). Obviously, for something like that, TLJ and TRoS would need to be retconned. Unless something such as that comes along that absolutely requires a retcon, however, they'll most likely try to work around the sequel trilogy as much as possible.

Big difference is the prequels did nothing with Luke, Leia, and Han. The sequels did, and especially with Luke, it was not well received by the fans.

That said, if there's a retcon I hope there's no "multiverse" or a redo on the sequel trilogy. The Skywalker Saga would just be Episodes I-VI and everything that takes place concurrent with or following The Mandalorian is the one and only canon. It's basically an acknowledgement by Disney that the sequel trilogy was a massive f***-up and creatively the only other option would have been to ignore the sequel trilogy era in perpetuity.

I had assumed they were done with this 'era', so if we're talking about "retconning" things from the ST I would think it's more technical details? Like the whole Sith/Palpatine/Jedi lore and other stuff they pulled out of their asses like the holdo maneuver or the light speed jump tracking.

So in practice you want to take the story back a few hundred years where a younger Yoda can still be around as a familiar face but as the antagonist you want to tell a different Sith story than the 'the Sith are run by an immortal Palpatine clone hiding on a secret Sith planet' thing. That's assuming there's even any truth to the rumours, at this point it's not like they can just pretend the ST doesn't exist and tell a different post RTJ Luke/Leia/Han story. I mean on one hand that would be great but the cats already out of the bag here.

Disney owns the property. If they chose to de-canonize the sequel trilogy, they can do so. And given the traction this rumor has gotten, there are plenty of Star Wars fans who would love to see it.

FYI, the source for this rumor is CosmicBookNews, a site with zero credibility.

Actually, not that it makes it any more credible, but the source is a popular YouTuber. CosmicBookNews was just one of the first to write an article on what he said.

If there's one bright spot to take out of this pandemic, it's the fact that it has delayed any plans Kathleen Kennedy has to further ruin Star Wars. Her contract ends after 2021.

I will laugh if she gets re-hired and people just freak out as if she is the Palpatine of the Star Wars production team.

They just need the corporate types to keep their hands off, and a creative lead to make the films cohesive if they plan to do movies that are supposed to be connected. Regardless how people felt about the individual films in the ST, I don't think anyone was really happy with how the set turned out.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni would ideally be the people to do that. I wouldn't be surprised if nothing significant happens with Star Wars until Kathleen Kennedy is out.

I'm finally getting around to watching Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian and am very impressed with how those two totally get Star Wars and want to talk about it. Meanwhile, whenever Kathleen Kennedy speaks, it's to reminisce about working with Lucas decades ago or to try to change the subject. In fact, I'm looking up her filmography and it's pretty impressive how many great movies she's produced, but The Force Awakens was her first that was related to Star Wars. She got to be the head of Lucasfilm after the acquisition because of her involvement in the Indiana Jones franchise, yet it's been 99% focused on Star Wars since.

Jon Favreau runs The Mandalorian with Filoni. Kathleen Kennedy has full trust on them . It was evident on the Mandalorian docuseries.

It did but I think they could do it right potentially. I’m kinda excited personally.
I just didn't like that the Bad Batch are basically super soldiers, on super hero type levels, not just elite commandos. Why didn't they just make more of these mutated clones?

Yeah they need to be nerfed a bit. Emphasize how their different abilities make for a great ream. But don’t make them all Superman.
