The longer it goes on, the worse it will be to meet and clear the air…..that nothing tangible has happened is disappointing, we can all agree.

That said it feels like this was so painfully personal that the ONLY way it gets resolved is through them being thrown into a room together face to face to eventually hug it out (hopefully).

This isn’t a Zoom call and it’s not a meeting you send GB off to chase the kid down in Germany while he recovers from injury….it’s a when the whole team is present at a camp or game, you meet man to man but everyone in that room knows it’s going down….and you pray to your deity that they reconcile for the good of the team.

I couldn’t disagree more. This is a one on one conversation between coach and player and the coach has the time and resources to get this knocked out ASAP. As everyone agrees, the longer this goes on the worse it looks. And waiting for Reyna to be healthy enough to actually make a national team camp is big role of the dice and just extends the timeline. Berhalter should have been on a plane to Germany the moment he officially became the coach again. That should have been priority one. It’s not like that would be taking time away from his tactical genius… ;)

This is clearly mostly his parents doing, including his own behavior.

Yes, when you're 50 you don't think the same way as when you're 18 but if you're raised right in athletics even at 18 you don't act like a diva when the coach doesn't play you. You do whatever it takes to earn that spot and make it impossible to NOT play you.

GR didn't learn that from coaches, he learned it from his parents. It's not a case of great parents with an inexplicably snotty kid. They're as bad or worse than he is.

That makes him a reclamation project. Berhalter has to reach out and try to reconfigure this guy's head and how he handles things in the context of high level sports, including locker room savvy.

If GB can't do that then he's not much of a coach. Which should surprise no one.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t be one on one. In fact I literally said man to man in a room.

You’re making GR sound bigger than the team….which is exactly the sense of entitlement his parents apparently fostered and the reason why we’re where we are today.

So no, GB should not be chasing half way across the world to placate a guy nobody on the USMNT is exactly missing at the moment anyway. IMO both need to show some humility to heal and move past this.

What does a national team coach do when he doesn’t have players around him in your opinion? National team coaches go overseas to see their players ALL the time. It is literally their job. What do you think they do between camps, draw up plays on the chalkboard? Reyna has to stay in Germany to practice/ rehab. Berhalter has basically nothing to do but go see his players.

I‘m saying in this case, if I were his boss, I would not force GB to chase this guy down like that. This was a deeply personal attack….his parents severely f’ed with his family/life/career. I’d want to be sure GR had some skin (effort) in whatever reconciliation there eventually will be. The message to every player needs to be clear….nobody is bigger than the program.

INTL experts, what's the toughest group? F? A seems close.

Toughest group is Group F for sure.

Closest one (as in anyone could advance)... propably D. Group H has 3 good teams too. A isn't tough because Copenhagen and Galatasaray are pretty poor teams but Man U can propably make that group hard for themselves.

I always look at it as what groups have the most teams from the big 5 leagues plus the Portuguese and Dutch leagues.

So in no particular order, F, B, and C are the toughest groups.

And for the big teams, again in no particular order, A, G, and H the easiest.

Thank god. About time. Don't dislike him as a person but he's an emergency sub at best on a top team.

Nah. GB started this shitstorm, he doesn’t get to run or hide from it and claim victim status because the Reynas struck back (even if how they struck back was really shitty of them and deeply over the line, which it was). If he kept his mouth shut then perhaps none of this happens. Also if he hadn’t hit his then-girlfriend/now-wife when he was drunk he wouldn’t have to worry about people bringing it up later.

His team plays together four windows a year. That’s it. 95% of his time will be spent watching his player pool in their domestic leagues to help with selection. He should have been on a plane already since he’s a grown ass man and he should have put this to bed. It’s as simple as saying, “I regret what happened and I apologize for my part in this. I value you as a player and as a person and I want to get all the cards on the table now so after this conversation we can move forward and focus on helping you become the best player and teammate you can be so you can help us win games.”

It’s really not that hard. And he’s paid millions of dollars in part to handle shit like this.

Nah. The Reyna‘s had years of shameful manipulative behavior behind the scenes. At least get the basics of the debate right. GB didn’t start this.

Sorry, what scandal happened because the Reynas were douchebags behind closed doors? Ah that’s right, there wasn’t one. Not until GB aired out dirty laundry in public. Other facts:

Yes, the Reynas are shitty people. Yes, they should be blacklisted from US Soccer. Yes, the adults in the room bear more responsibility in this than a teenager. Yes, it’s a core function of GB’s job to get his ass on a plane and build relationships with his players. No, it’s not acceptable that he hasn’t spoken with Gio yet. No, he should not be the USMNT coach.

Gio doesn’t need his balls cradled like you want GB to do. You hate the guy, seemingly want to see him further humiliated…..noted.

I mean read the time line..…she starts threatening him behind the scenes after the Wales game…..GB talks AFTER Qatar.

We can move on until your next GB rant. ;)

The lengths you go to wrap yourself in a pretzel defending a 50 year old man who sucks at his job for handling a situation poorly are admirable.

In other news, Havertz is awful. Chelsea have done mostly terrible business for the last few years but selling Havertz for anything let alone for $85M is insanely good.

The lengths you’ll go to rail against a guy you just greatly personally dislike…..

I don’t even like GB, and Claudio was my all-time favorite US mens player.….so no motivation for me other than being disgusted by the dishonorable actions of all the Reyna’s.

Havertz has been total ass as expected. The MU goal was squarely on his shoulders after that nonsensical flick of the ball directly to the MU player to start the break. And the missed open net....horrific.

Trossard needs to be starting over Havertz.

He’s objectively a bad coach. He’s had the same issues everywhere he’s gone. He was a mediocre MLS coach and he flopped in lower tier European leagues. He shouldn’t be coaching this team, period.

I don’t care about Gregg the person one way or the other. I’m sure he’s a nice dude who I’d enjoy having a beer with but he’s ass at his job and that’s the basis for my discontent with him. The only reason he is in the job he’s in is because the USSF is a joke and can’t hire anyone except on the foundation of nepotism.

Havertz isn’t showing so far that he is an 8 but Trossard certainly isn’t one either. How they decided that Havertz could play in that role I do not know but I’m going to give him time try to make the adjustment to a new team and a new position.

Other than that egregious error that led to the ManUre goal I do think he looked better overall than he did last week against Fulham.

But I would 100% prefer to have an actual number 8 in that role like Xhaka last year. And I will never understand how they made the decision to offload him and just assume Havertz was going to be able to step into that role.

I didn't think KH was that much better and he seemed lost a lot of the time, just floating on top of other players instead of finding space or providing real support.

Martinelli was better at doing something at the end of his sprints to the goal line this game so that's calmed me down for a while.

Well to be fair Havertz was absolutely terrible against Fulham. He looked completely lost and it was in no way a coincidence that Viera coming on for him changed the game significantly in their favor. Their inability to hang on to win after being up a man was pretty damning, even if early in the season.

Havertz seemed to find space and at least understand where he was supposed to be and what he was trying to do. I think his better spacing was a factor in Martinelli having such a good game also, besides his corner deliveries anyway. I guess between those two games I see Havertz trending in the right direction, but yes he has a reasonably long way to go to get to where they need him to go.

And yeah Martinelli was great. The way he kept taking on Wan-Bissaka, who is an excellent 1v1 defender IMO, and winning corner after corner was impressive. Saka on the other hand had no interest in taking on Dalot, which was really disappointing. It worked out for them in the end but he wasn’t near his best yesterday.

The hard part with Havertz is they paid $85M so they’ll want to give him room and time to get comfortable with the system and improve but they can’t afford to drop points in the process if they want to contend for the title. He nearly cost them the game against United and he was somehow better that game than against Fulham when he was just awful.

The international break is coming at a good time for them I think.

Roman Abramovich hired Marc Newson, the designer behind the Apple Watch, to design a hi-tech $600 million superyacht with secret passageways for him to escape via an onboard submarine. The 460-foot-long vessel also has anti-drone systems and a laser shield.
