Berhalter still hasn’t spoken to Reyna and has hired a mediator to facilitate a reconciliation between he and Reyna. The guy is a joke and so is the USSF.
Yeah this is completely absurd. You are the coach of the US National Team. You can’t jump on a blame to Germany and sit down with player and clear the air and move forward? That kind of thing is part of your f***ing job.

He made a mistake acting like a petulant child when it looked like he wasn’t going to play as big a part on the team to start with at least at the World Cup. You made a mistake naively thinking what you said at a leadership conference wouldn’t get out and that since you didn’t name the player people wouldn’t have been able to put two and two together and figure it out. Now put it to bed and move on. You are both supposed to be professionals.

The longer this goes on the bigger it gets and the worse you and US Soccer look. Leadership has to be asking what the f*** you are doing? I don’t care what his parents did. Fix it with the player and move the f*** on now.

Should have just banned Reyna permanently and moved on from GB. F em both.
Disagree entirely on Reyna. He was a kid who was pissed that worse players were playing over him at the World Cup and that he couldn't make the impact he wanted. He handled it like a child (which, to be fair, he was) and he was rightly punished for it but no way they should ban him permanently. His parents should be embarrassed and personas non grata to US Soccer moving forward and so should Berhalter since they're the adults and they handled this as poorly as possible. And they're still handling it as poorly as possible which is the infuriating part.

Berhalter is a complete loser. How fragile is your ego that you can't admit you were wrong and pick up the phone and bury the hatchet with one of your players? Why do you need a mediator to just do the right and decent thing?

He started this shit show thinking he was smarter than everyone else by making those comments in public and refuses to accept responsibility and do what it takes to move forward. He's a 50 year old man for f***'s sake. Act like an adult and act like the leader you're being paid millions of dollars to be and set the right foundation and culture for the 2026 World Cup. This shit that he's pulling now is only keeping them stuck in the past. He should never have been rehired and his handling of this situation is just one of the many, many reasons why. I hate how much of a good old boys network USSF is; it's honestly insulting to fans that they think we're this dumb and naive that they can piss from the sky with this Berhalter nonsense and tell us it's raining.

Gio Reyna is also a man, as are his parents adults.

I’m not so willing to brush off things because he‘s a pissed off kid, he’s a grown ass professional MAN.…..not that or the parents revenge blackmail and subsequent damage done to the entire program and people‘s personal lives.

Has to be F. Who is the weakest team in that bracket? Dortmund? PSG? Newcastle has had a slow start but they look like they'll be a strong side once they find their legs. Milan could be the class of Serie A. They're the only division where there aren't one or two clear cut favorites to advance.

Other initial thoughts:
- City and Barcelona are going to sleepwalk to the knockout rounds.
- Watching Harry Kane play in Manchester for Bayern is going to be appointment TV.
- Arsenal's group is sneaky tough. PSV and Sevilla are not going to be pushovers.
- Group D is the second hardest group for me. Sociedad will miss David Silva but I could see any of those three teams moving through with Inter, and Inter may not actually be a lock to advance.

Come on now this is ridiculous. A grown ass man? Gio Reyna was a teenager when this shit went down. You're around 50 right? Do you honestly make decisions the same way now as you did when you were a freshman in college? I would assume not, because you have been there and done that and you have more life experiences to draw from now than you did back then. The dude was barely old enough to vote. As I said, he deserved to face consequences for how he acted but holding him to the same standard as his parents and GB and calling for a lifetime ban is rather excessive.

Professional athletes are held to a higher standard. I don’t make the rule, but that’s the truth.

And I wouldn’t have banned him, I’d just not select him for a long long while….his frailty is already taking care of that unfortunately.

You said they should ban him permanently, no?

Professional athletes are still people. They make mistakes, especially young kids. I never said he shouldn’t be held accountable for his actions but I place more blame on the adults who should know better.

That was my initial anger and suspecting he knew more than he did, which I still kinda believe but I’ve backed off a ban. Omission would be a more fitting silent punishment.

And what punishment did or does Greg get? He was rewarded with an unearned new contract. It’s garbage.
His reputation was irreparably smeared…..his privacy violated, his wife (and family) was probably incredibly humiliated, almost lost his job, certainly months of salary until he was renewed I think….

I dunno, you tell me.

In no way do I think Reyna should be left out in the cold. But this is a tough one. On one hand he is pretty young, turning 21 in mid November. If this was a college football player acting similarly most would chalk it up to youth IMO.

But on the other hand he moved to Germany in 2019 and made his Bundesliga debut when he was barely 17. Being a professional playing in another country and playing in a top 3 or 4 league in the world is definitely going to mature you and teach you how to properly handle the disappointment of not playing when you feel you deserve to. He in no way showed the maturity of someone with that experience IMO.

I’m definitely not giving him a pass but I definitely feel it is on the coach to begin the process of mending the fences and am very disappointed nothing has happened so far.
