Kapanen and POJ for Boeser could make sense I guess, I don’t know.

Kapanen has been down this year but he was pretty dang good last year. He was making plays in open ice and using his speed really well with Malkin. For him there’s clearly a confidence issue that’s made worse by the fact that he really doesn’t thrive with the fundamentals that coaches demand, so he gets demoted pretty quickly if he’s not contributing offensively.

He’s fallen out of favor with the coach and we lack top 6 wingers. Pens fans are impatient given our window and the fact we are used to a ton of deadline action. Also it’s reasonable to maybe think that Kap may be somewhat attractive to a team as a “buy low” guy given his physical abilities, past successes and contract situation (whoever acquires him gets to give him a deal). I think all of that’s why you see him a lot in proposals.

However if he stays in PIT then hopefully he gets back to how he played last season, and then we’ll all be happy.

He’s not as good as Boeser nor is he a complete bum. Answer lies in the middle. He’s talented but streaky. If he works on his consistency and his approach in the o-zone I think he settles in as guy you’re happy with in your middle 6. If he doesn’t he’s still a middle 6er but in a more frustrating way.
I agree with the bolded 100% - so if Kap is part of a deal but the majority of the value is coming in other assets I'd be on board, but Kap as the primary asset for Boeser is definitely not "buying low"

Teams trade for Kapanen because they want more team speed....but then they figure out that he doesn't bring much else to the table.

Kapanen and Hoglander are very similar to me in having the skillset for suceee but lacking commitment to a system.

Would Jim trade Boeser for Hoglander?

Or you know Crosby and Malkin and Guentzel and Rust missed major amounts of times until January.
So 4 top 6 players go down and miss significant time, and Kapanen's ice time decreases? Not really an endorsement for KK if the team is missing 4 top 6 and he plays less than when they were healthy.

My bad I miss read - missed time prior to January.

Yes insert reading comprehension jokes here.

Uh.....yes.

Is this a serious question?

Kapanen is arbitration eligible this summer. His cap hit is $3.2M but his QO is very cheap because he 2/3 of his contract is in signing bonus money.

It's hard to even describe what's happened to Kapanen's game.

The Penguins winger started the season out fine, with seven goals and 16 points through 28 games. Once 2022 hit, Kapanen simply lost his way. Since Jan. 1, the 25-year-old has registered just two goals and nine points in 24 games, with an apparent lack of confidence in his own game. While Kapanen has only been a 20-goal scorer once in his career (2018-19), there hasn't been a long-term dip in production of this magnitude.

Kapanen will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season. This downturn is bound to have an effect on negotiations, whether with the Penguins or potentially another team if Kapanen were to be traded or fails to receive a qualifying offer. There's a lot riding for him over the coming weeks, and a potential Penguins' playoff run would only turn up the pressure.

Ten players whose struggles could cost them this summer

Are the Penguins better off spending the $3 plus million arbitration award on another player?

Alrighty then...

I mean, I get it. It’s just obvious that Rutherford hired a GM who worked closely with him and likely respects his opinion. Take a lot at what happen in both Carolina and Pittsburgh with JR and those close to him. He’s a guy who wants autonomy. I have no doubt he is having effect on Allvin and his decisions. Not to mention Allvin drafted Kapanen.

No because you're not getting better value than Kapanen in free agency for $3 million.

For $3 million in free agency, you get Brock McGinn. McGinn's career high in points in a season is 30. Kapanen is at 26 in 55 games right now while having a bad season.

The idea that they wouldn't qualify him because he may make more than $3 million is just dumb. If he was on track to make like $5.5 million, you'd have a point, but even a shitty Kapanen this year is worth over $3 million.

The Penguins will qualify Kapanen or trade his rights. No chance at all they let him walk.

An ESPN writer won’t change that.

No doubt he has an effect on the decisions, just reminding people that he's not the only one involved haha

I think this is realistic and reality. Boeser isn't that important. Moving Miller, JT though................. I on't know mayne. He is one of the best players in the world. Does everything correctly. And everything he does. Every other organization and their fans are jelious of miller........ they want him, hard. Everybody wanna be like JT. But can't. You can't trade these types of players away... warriors, not players only. Warriors. Keep em, high.

A team who doesn't have a JT miller, is always looking and hunting for this type of rarity. So why start a war or hunt, when you already have it all? Period.

Maybe you can acquire a player in a trade. Some teams will need to move players to free up money. There could be some good deals available this summer.
