I think the notion that he'll be able to step in and take over the net for Rochester is not realistic. It's not that he isn't necessarily ready for the level of competition, but he almost certainly is not ready for the increased workload.

My bet is that they try to re-sign Subban to split the Rochester net with him. And if not Subban, then some AHL veteran.

A very good defensive team? They routinely hung 35-50 shots on him. Sure if you’re just watching the scoreboard they look like a trap era team.
They allow a ton of shots, but it comes from a structure that allows Levi to know where 95% of them are coming from. The ability to know where the shots are coming from and see them coming is nearly the top determinante of NHL goalie stats. Put UPL behind the boston team and his save percentage jumps to 9.15-9.2 and goals agains go sub 3 very fast.

these boards are terrible to read (and getting worse by the day)

I avoid them after a bad loss - not that I want to keep reliving the pain myself - because I know they will be so reactionary, and the same few posters will keep posting the same negative comments over and over. It's exhausting.

This Levi thread went off the rails today and I'm just looking for an update he signed, which he will at some point in the next week.

Tough competition for Levi there. Hutson had an absolutely insane rookie season for a Dman.

Yeah, Hutson's season was eyepopping. If he translates that to the NHL, even as a specialist? Wow, the Canadiens will have a real gem there.

I hope Levi gets the recognition for how hard and how well he played to get his team to the point they got. Much like last season, he carried them so often. And I thought early that the team itself looked better than last year's group but they struggled hard to score and when they would try to press, left a lot going the other way.

I mean, he can split starts with Subban down the stretch. If he isn't ready, he will have a good idea of what he has to work on during the summer.

Yeah, NEU is not a great comparison for being a solid coverage team. They leaned hard on Levi's ability to make not just the first save, but multiple saves consecutively.

Every time I see the speculation about an NCAA development player, I think of this:

There is far too much catastrophizing.

I have watched just about every Northeastern game and yes they are a very good defensive team with structure. Very rarely do they give up odd man rushes or breakaways. They do a great job of keeping shots on the outside and they block a TON of shots (they may lead the NCAA in block shots). The NU system is conducive to great goalies stats just as Cayden Primeau had prior to Levi. Last year TJ Semptimphelter played 8 games while Levi was at the Olympics and put up 2.05gaa and a .934 behind the same team. Semptimphelter transferred to ASU this season and came back to earth with a 2.84 and a .913 this season.

Northeastern had the best defensive defenseman in Hockey East in Hunter Mcdonald and also the best defensive forward in Hockey East with Hyrckowian. There was a 7 game stretch this year when a few defenseman where banged up and Levi allowed 29 goals for a 4.14GAA and a .876 save percentage - that stretch led them to miss the NCAA tournament. Not saying Levi isnt a good goalie prospect but its a system that produces great goalie stats. Levi is still barely 6'0 tall and will need time to develop...ala Dustin Wolf.

I wanted Hutson so bad after watching a few NTDP U18 games last year. He was always the standout.

Alright I’ll retract what I said.

Its interesting because Northeastern doesn't play a trap or prevent defense like a Quinnipiac which is insanely defensive. Quinnipiac gave up 5 shots all game to Yale this weekend.....FIVE SHOTS THE ENTIRE GAME so Yaniv Perets gets another shutout. NU opponents have volume shots but not high quality scoring chances while you have teams like Michigan and BU who play run and gun and may give up less shots but way more high quality chances as those teams are trying outscore you 7-5 with offensive defenseman and essentially playing with 4 forwards not he ice at all times while NU is trying to defend and win 2-1.

Yale is also pretty bad. I’m dismayed they beat Tech twice and by good margins.

If Levi doesn't sign next week then he is gone. Zero chance he doesn't get to burn a year of his contract but will sign in the summer. If he doesn't sign next week he is going back and then going UFA. And who can blame him.

If he isnt signed by the draft, trade him when his value is peak. Could get a couple of seconds for him at least
