How about this? Why don't we just keep the number 12 pick this year or 14th or whatever, and then trade it. Get some IMMEDIATE help, and then we have a nice contending team next year, and we forfeit next years hopefully top 20-30 pick?

Instead of wishing we tanked then just go out with some pride, and trade the pick for immediate help rather than draft someone who might not be ready for 2 years or more? Why don't we hope the rumors were true on that.

Problem is that this team needs more than one player (assuming that player isn't Malkin or someone of his caliber :D). That can't be fixed with just the 12th thru 14th. However, Lou could go balls to the wall and trade up.

What really hurts are numerous no shows against the Islanders right now.

Say we showed up 3 times to play the Islanders that we didn't we may have at least went 2-1-0 or even 2-0-1 or possibly even 3-0-0. We could have been where they are now, and their sorry pathetic franchise could have been in our miserable spot right now. And showed up to play the Rangers last week, and didn't absolutely fall asleep the last second of the two Florida games.

.......um ........losing to the leafs....... GROSS 3 TIMES.

let the moron fans enjoy their taste and a 1st round exit.

First time going through a 48 game season (Yeah, I know the Devils won a Cup, but won 2 after in full seasons), and it was junk.

Rather this never happen again, but knowing Buttman and company it will.
Yup what year is the CBA expiring in? 8 years from now or something? That's the option year? Can't wait to do it all over again in 2022!
The Florida road trip hurts the most. It killed the team mentally after what was a good, but tough loss to Ottawa.
Yup we had those games won. Unfortunately those were my only two Devils games I got to see in person this year.

I can't stress the Islanders games enough though. The Tavares hat trick game SHOULD have been more competitive, but it was a blowout. The last game against them too was a total no show. The 5-4 OT loss wasn't a no show, but it was one of the worst defensive games of the season. It really hurts bad when this team scored that many goals that game, but gave up one more.

Why? We could actually still draft as high as 8th is everything falls in place.

There is no way to pass Buffalo

its 9-12. One of those spots. Hopefully we stand pat at 10 at least, not like beating the rangers on saturday will knock them out anymore and I don't give a **** what they get seeded

Phx has 2 games left and they have the same amount of points as us.
Dallas has 1 more game left and is tied in the game they have right now and also have the same amount of points as us.
Philly has 1 less point but have 1 game remaining.

So most likely we're going to be picking from 8 to 10 which is not bad at all.

bittersweet again.....deep down i always like to see the devils win regardless but at the same time the draft position isnt improving which is frustrating. still hate the matteau pick and that shoulda been forfeited. then we wouldnt be as concerned about all of this. just gotta hope the teams around the devils in the standings right now win/get points in their final game(s). Pick 9 or 10 still seems like a good possibility which i would be more than content with, still a great place to be and should be a good forward available. go PHX, DAL, PHI!!!

This team is not good and a few little tweeks aren't going to make it better...

Elias will be 38 next season that is if he is even here...Brodeur, Hedberg will both be a year older... The defense is bad, Volchenkov and Salvador suck, Tallinder is just taking space Larsson is still years away from being key contributor if it ever happens at all. What's left is middle of the road.

The forward group as a whole is terrible... Ponikarovsky, Zubrus and Clarkson are Free Agents and most likely 2 of 3 are gone. Jacobson has yet to show much. There is little skill in this forward group and nothing in the pipeline. There is no reliable scoring anywhere in the entire lineup and barely any reliable 20 goal scorers...

This team needs to be blown up. 1 forward isn't going to do anything but make this team a little more competitive. The holes are to big and the mediocrity to widespread.

What are you talking about? This team needs one more proven top 6 forward, and a healthy roster, and it's a 6-8 seed at the very worst. We don't need Malkin.

And scoring 3 goals on James Reimer in 3 games. I don't care how good he's been this year, or what other teams he's shutout. That's just gross.

The Matteau selection makes this entire scenario far more uncomfortable than it should be. This could end up really hindering the org going forward.

If it does hinder the org going forward, it will only be temporary.

It's not like it's going to be a friggin' anchor or noose around the neck of the franchise....

Defensive unit is salvagable, especially if we amnesty Volch and starting incorporating some of the Albany Devils. However, you are spot on about the forward group in terms of legitimate, fearsome top 6 talent. Elias is nearing 40 and we can't ride him like in the past. It's a barren wasteland aside from Kovalchuk, though Loktionov could be a productive 2nd line scoring center.

UFA's.

Patty - Come back for whatever he wants. Just hope it's not 4 or 5 years or something.

Clarkson - Keep if possible. Over $4.5-$5 million go.

Zubrus - Yes please. Try to keep it cheaper.

Ponikarovsky - NO GTFO.

Harrold - ONLY as number 7.

Zidlicky - If we could get rid of Suckechenkov, and hopefully Tallinder then yes.

Sullivan - Has been better than many of the acquisition's, but likely isn't needed.

Kostopolous - NO.

Janssen - GTFO.

Well, every game went the way I didn't want today. Even the Devils game. They get nothing by winning this game other than jeopardizing their draft position. I still want them to beat the Rags because it's the Rags, but that would hurt their position even more. I am just very defeated right now.

If it's a top 5 pick in 2014, it's going to be an infamous move.

Let's say this, it would be really bad if Devils were to finish in bottom 5 next year.
