Dano and Chico are talking about how Clarkson's contract, and don't seem thrilled with bringing him back for lots of money. As they shouldn't.

Chico says he doesn't think Ponikarovsky is gonna re sign either.:handclap:

If it does hinder the org going forward, it will only be temporary.

It's not like it's going to be a friggin' anchor or noose around the neck of the franchise....

We won't know for sure yet. But if this team does badly next year, it is going to be the swansong for Lou

No one with eyes should want to resign Poni at this point. And everyone agrees Clarkie isn't worth big money.

Yes since we've drafted so well lately we can afford to have late picks

This I agree with you on completely. Our drafting has been **** in the first round, and Conte is a hack, and hopefully he's done soon. Don't know how you can defend him at all.

So the middle ground between tanking, and forfeiting the pick is to trade the pick I think for some immediate help. Maybe we trade the next Parise, and maybe we give up the next TedenBUST. It's a gamble.

UFA's.

Patty - Come back for whatever he wants. Just hope it's not 4 or 5 years or something.

Clarkson - Keep if possible. Over $4.5-$5 million go.

Zubrus - Yes please. Try to keep it cheaper.

Ponikarovsky - NO GTFO.

Harrold - ONLY as number 7.

Zidlicky - If we could get rid of Suckechenkov, and hopefully Tallinder then yes.

Sullivan - Has been better than many of the acquisition's, but likely isn't needed.

Kostopolous - NO.

Janssen - GTFO.

Agreed to all except Harrold, imo. I'd bring up Gelinas and Urbom for next year. Sal, Larsson, Fayne, Greene, Zidlicky, Gelinas, with Urbom as the 7th. The D has got to get younger fast. This obviously means Tallinder and Volchenkov have to go, whatever it takes.

If Lou really forgot the deadline last year with the pick....then I don't even know what to say about that.

****ing blows.

At least we have the tools internally to get the D younger fast. Sadly I think only one of Tally and Volch will be gone. Definitely prefer both gone though.

DeBoer planned to keep Gelinas away from Malkin early in game, but ended up against him quite a bit.

He's been garbage. Pandolfo's last few years kept a bad taste in my mouth, and he was a great soldier for years. This invisible floating piece of space junk with how short he's been here has come close to making me forget how great he was last year.

Don't get me wrong he hasn't been a liability. We aren't keeping him around for CORSI, he needs to be producing and look alive at times, and he hasn't. GTFO and give the spot to someone else who can contribute.

I can see Poni in the KHL next year honestly. I'd give it a 40-50 percent chance actually.

Pete has been heaping praise on Gelinas tonight.

Boucher is in an ideal situation given how bad our top 2 scoring lines are. If he shows anything, he could theoretically make the team.

I like what I've seen from Boucher too but we are in deep doodoo if he can make this team next year.

He'll need to improve several areas this summer.

If Lou had forfeited the Matteau pick last year on the reasoning that he expects to lose Parise and expects the team to miss the playoffs this year (and according to most of this board, next year too), that's the only reason he should be fired. He kept the pick because goddammit, the New Jersey Devils make the playoffs and nothing less is acceptable, and based on that, a pick in the 20s in 2012 is worth more than a pick in the 20s later. I don't want a general manager who expects failure next year. And frankly, I expect this team to be picking in the 20s again next year because I'm a goddamned fan of the New Jersey Devils and that is the least that is expected. If mistakes (in hindsight) are made, at least they are mistakes born from the effort to be better. If that's not what you want from your team, and if that's not what you want from your general manager, good luck getting affordable tickets in Edmonton.

We're going to find out firsthand if this move was product of valor or stupidity.

Chico saying that he asked Marty about if he's open to coming back after next year if he's still playing at a high level, and he said absolutely. Also said he's not the Marty that played behind Dano, but still one of the top 10 goalies in the league and I agree with him completely.

I don't give a rats ass what his save percentage is. Brian Elliott broke a save percentage record last year, and isn't even the best goalie on his team let alone in the league.

Let's be serious. How many times have we seen Marty give up a clean bad angle goal like he gave up a lot 5-6 years ago? I don't remember many. He's prone to the the clean point shot occasionally, and the blocker side which has always been a weaknees, but he isn't giving up crap goals. Occasionally he does, but so does everyone.

I'm not going to lie. He's extremely raw and may be not ready for the speed of NHL play but I would like to see Boucher on the PP. I could see him doing massive damage in the high slot. In fact, Gelinas and Boucher could both make the PP better next year, though we'd bound to see some growing pains here and there.

Okay lets be serious here. Could Lou have really thought we had another cup contender on our hands with the team he built this year? Not saying he could have done a better job or that this team was awful. He had to know this team was one good forward away though. Even Dano, Steve, and Chico are saying it.

At last year's draft, we still had Parise, who was still playing footsie with everyone about seriously considering coming back. Do the draft AFTER free agency, different set of facts.

I'm hoping Tally gets traded and Volch gets bought out, but you're right, probably only one is gone. Probably Tally in a trade. Volch's contract is too expensive to buyout right now. I bet JVB won't want to buy him out until next offseason (if he can't be unloaded via trade by then).
