But are we seeing anything in Markstrom's game that says Rogalski is having a negative effect?

It's a running narrative on here. Whether it's a cause-effect thing has little importance.

Same thing happened when Mark Recchi was an assistant coach. Apparently he didn't know anything about power plays according to some on here.

Totally not related other than his Devil-player inspired name, but Bryce was born this morning at 9:40 and him and his momma are doing great.

I fully intend to keep him awake to watch his first Devils game with his dada tomorrow night since it's dada's birthday. Welcome to the crew, Bryce.

His first words are going to be "ok roll it"

Congratulations!

Well, yes I think anyone taking time to analyze what happens in each goal is going to beat at any formulaic algorithm for what constitutes a goal that is easy or hard to stop. I mean, I was a software algorithm designer for predicting network bottlenecks and rerouting over SDWan using statistics and a bad beer leaguegoalie in my previous life so I kinda know some of the shortcomings of both, lol. (I know people talk a lot of shit but I'll dm you my LinkedIn if you don't believe me. It won't have my personal goalie stats tho.

But over a whole season, or career, most stats can be useful when they aren't lying. I also know what bad algorithms that don't reflect reality look like. I get it's the best we got, but I much prefer @Bleedred 's take even if I don't always agree.
Until a person spends a couple seasons or more in the crease, they have no idea what you are talking about. I was there for nearly 45 years from high school, to the NCAA, to playing with a defunct group of excellent pros, to a beer league. No one who hasn't been there will ever understand you. I stopped trying decades ago. I often wonder if this thread's go to goalie analyst has ever been there himself. He calls a lot of goals the keeper had little to no chance on soft goals. The rest of the critics here are way off and therefore it's a waste of time to wade in on like you do so often. As long as you don't mind the abuse, go for it! LOL I enjoy the interactions.

That's because he (Recchi) didn't?

The power play got much better after he left, even if it wasn't best in the league. It got considerably better. It was even considerably better under Travis Green than it was under Recchi.

And Recchi got hired by Columbus, I'm pretty sure their power play also f***in sucked and he only lasted one year there.

That's a bad example right there. You probably should have used Nasreddine, as he's actually had some success at the NHL level as an assistant coach in Dallas. Recchi hasn't had shit, and the Pens fans were complaining about him coaching the power play even before we got him.

I'm sure you only believe Recchi knows anything about power plays because of what he was as a player. But several years as an assistant running the power play with three different NHL teams pretty much confirms that whatever he knows, he isn't good enough to run a power play at the NHL level.

To be fair though...can we really trust the opinions of bad goalie? Lol

I’d like to give Noesen a try but idk they split up the 3rd line. Easiest thing to do is just swapping Mercer and Palat. Palat made the 4th line unplayable so he’s not going there.
MacDermid already makes the 4th line unplayable, so I wish he would go there lol.

And he sandbags the guys in the top 6 who he plays with.

I've really turned militantly anti-Palat this season. Like Stone Cold Steve Austin turning heel and aligning with Vince at Wrestlemania 17 lol.

I totally did not mean to say Steve Austin in that post just because the $6 million dollar man Steve Austin nickname. That was completely coincidental.

That's up to you. MY HF name is a stab at sarcasm. LOL

Anyone have the latest on Hatakka? He is historically a member of the walking wounded. Has he been seen? Is he in a lab being refitted with robotic parts?

EDIT:
Never Mind.
Just saw that he has had shoulder surgery. The way he heals might be gone for the season.

If he comes back afraid of contact like Jack, his career as a D-man would be over.

The idea that he could offer some help with the Comet's D-corps is now simply wishful thinking. How long was he "re-habbing" before they accepted the fact that he actually had a "real injury"?

Last game pissed me off so much.

I see there's no GDT and I've thought about making one, because I haven't made one this season.

But I have no energy for it. It takes a specific type of creative energy for me to do one.

If we play like we did last game this could get ugly early. At least much earlier than goals on back to back shifts with 5 minutes left in regulation.

Even with McDavid out. It won't be washed up Huberdeau and Kadri.

Wayne Gretzky, greatest head coach in NHL history. Most guys who do well can't teach well.
Nope, because what they did came naturally and asking others to do what they did can't be put into words or demonstrated. If they do demonstrate it or show it on video, those watching are awed and wonder why someone would expect them to be able to think when to do what the others do by instinct is impossible. Gretzky didn't "learn" to do what he did, he just did it.

I played with an ex-pro who told the story of playing in the famous Quebec Pee-Wee tournament and his team was playing Wayne's team. Their coach lit into his kids between the 1st and 2nd period for not simply laying the kid out. "Hit HIM, and he won't beat us!" My guy said he told the coach, "We have been trying to hit him for an entire period. He is impossible to hit."

He said while laughing and still awestruck ,"We tried for 2 more periods and not one of us got more than a glove or a stick on him and it usually resulted in a penalty. His team but more him than the rest killed us."

The guys scouting that tournament, and their are NHL guys there, knew at that moment that this kid was something beyond special. He was one of a kind and he proved it for the rest of his playing career. The only thing that slowed him down was age, which took his legs away. Not speed but agility, cutting, turning, etc, The things he did naturally and so easily on his skates that opponents couldn't counteract. His blind passing tape to tape and his shooting accuracy was unmatched in history up to that point and still isn't.

really time to send nemec down. Not overly fond of him being in the stand not being addressed and media not calling him out on it

They’re on a road trip far away from their minor league team so he came on the trip in case someone in the top 6 played poorly or got hurt.

It’s perfectly reasonable for him to have traveled, even if it meant he didn’t play for another 3 games.

I've said it a multitude of times that a "kid" needs to play and if he's going to sit or be used sparingly, he should be sent to the farm where he plays in every situation in every game. If he plays against the best in the AHL, he's still learning what he needs to do at both levels. If you play him down the lineup, he isn't, because he's already too good for those players.

Can we stop with Palat up with Bratt and Jack?

Seen enough
The team doesn't really have a guy that seems to fit correctly with those two. They've tried just about everyone at this point and all have done ok but none have been great. Maybe Noesen would work a bit better but he's slow.

I think the speed thing might be overrated with who plays with those guys. If you had someone who couldn't keep up on a breakout/entry that may actually benefit them. Built in trailer who doesn't distract from what they do and be sort of a 'stay at home' forward. Palat just gets in the way and is a black hole if he ever ends up with the puck.

I know most hated him, but Toffoli was perfect for that. Glide in late, pick up a pass and bury it.
