I mean it’s not redundant. You do not trade potential star D for a 3C.

I think it’s overrating to call him the top U21 D prospect but still dumb to move him for a f***ing 3C
Which players from the 2022, 2023, or 2024 draft do you have ahead of him?

I love Nemec but i unfortunately i think Chicago has two of them in Korchinski and Levshunov. But i think one of the highest ceiling D of the last few years is Zeev Buium. And I still think it’s possible David Jiricek makes Fitz look foolish for not taking him 2nd overall.

i think Danielson has a good chance to become more then just 3C and would be perfect to pair with Jack. but even if he becomes a really good 3C, i take it cause we need to build through the middle and Haula isnt getting any younger. if there is an injury to any of our top C we have no backup solution.

not saying Nemec cant become what all expect him to be cause him being drafted 2OA, but there is a chance that his ceiling is lower. if you guys are right, we should get additional picks or prospects back.
no point in keeping Nemec and Casey, if thats the only way to get a highend C prospect. Good teams do this kind of trades, just look at Vegas or Florida

Im not sure why they felt the need to bring politically-aligned comments into a hockey thread; other than to chastise me and ignore the topic at hand, I suppose
I found the statement funny and had nothing to do with you nor did you even enter my mind when I put that up.

Believe it or not, the world does not revolve around you, man.

Nemec has been better than Jiricek every step of the way.

Nemec and Casey are really not similar players

I don't understand this notion that it is one or the other. I would rather move Hamilton in a year or so than move one of those 2 guys at the moment.
Agreed that moving Dougie in 2 years is the ideal outcome to keep all around but I think it’s too much talent in the backend while there are glaring needs at forward that’s historically not easy to patch in FA or a pick for player trade unless you’re willing to take on a 30+ year old.*

Not trying to be rhetorical - who are some defensemen that are Casey’s size and are elite TWDs or really stout defensively? I’m not saying he’s too small to be a good player I’m just less interested in a Makar/Fox archetype if that’s what he’s forecasted to be stylistically (talent wise of course that would be awesome) given how this defense is looking in 2-3 years. Think you already have plenty offensive talent from L Hughes and Nemec and Dougie if he is still around. I think Casey could be a great player but given the need for what’s actually a 2C but I’ll call a middle-6 C that’s a move I’d think about making. I’d take either Bystedt or Danielson for Casey but probably neither for Nemec.

*Only recent trade/FA examples that come to mind are Trocheck, Hertl (injury prone, high retention contract that had the potential to be a disaster). You have some short term fixes like ROR or Duchene if you’re willing to go 30+ which I’m not opposed to but otherwise hard to get a prime aged player of that ilk.

I'm not saying I am 100% against trading Casey, I would be okay with it given the right circumstances.

There are not many (realistic) players that I would trade Nemec for, however.

Got it sounds like we have similar views on this. What do you think Nemec’s ceiling is? What’s L Hughes? Who are some players that you think they could be like?

its lazy, but Luke's ceiling is probably Quinn. Even without the obvious connection, its hard to not draw the comparisons, given their skating abilities and career arc (same college, even). Granted, Quinn was playing 22 minutes/game by his 2nd season.

Nemec is harder to gauge for me. Maybe Ryan Suter? I think his playstyle could hopefully turn into Duncan Keith-lite, though I doubt he ever is THAT good.

I like those comps. Would love for Nemec to be that do everything very well but not a household name type.

Luke seems like he could win a Norris or two in his career. He’s looking worlds better this year in his own zone; whether caused by Pesce or not I’m impressed.

Kovacevic has come down to earth from his start and I think it's time to try Dougie with Siegenthaler again and see if Siegenthaler's returned form can bring back that pairing to 22-23 esque. Hughes-Pesce pairing seems to be really coming along so they should be together still and maybe leaned on even more

I'd try:
71-7
43-22
5-17

The difference in scheduling is actually insane. Little practice, jam packed October, little days off for NJ. And now we have to prepare for a Panthers doubleheader road trip after this week.

Look at NYR schedule, about to play their 3rd gm against Detroit, after playing Isles and Buffalo, on three days rest…

Surely this means we have a nice schedule later in the season?

The next time they have more than a day off after these next two off is after the Tampa game on the 16th, with their next game being on the 21st. And most of the guys will have a couple weeks off in February for the Four Nations. I'm assuming Jack and Bratt will be playing in that, probably Markstrom too.

Washington is having a resurgence off of rebuilt top2 centers. Both youngish guys that were 3rd and 4th overall picks.

2 goals against (1 empty net against), on the Western Canadian road trip is fantastic any way you slice it.

got lucky with the oilers missing some easy goals but hey the breaks bounce both ways so thats good. this is the type of goaltending you are going to get out of these guys have to ride the highs with the lows. unless you have a legit star goalie thats the reality of goaltending today just have to hope we time a high wave going into the playoffs.
