With last night's game in the books Hamilton has played the same amount of games as last season. For the most part the stats are eerily similar. I am willing to give him a pass on the assists and points because the Devils have less firepower than the Canes of last season.

I think Bernier starts the season on LTIR and when he comes back we carry 3 goalies.

Either we sign a 1a to split with Blackwood (Husso/Keumper/Campbell) OR we trade Blackwood+ for a different starter and then bring in a Wedgewood type as a veteran backup.
It's crazy why no one questions the competence of the goalie department. Is the legend untouchable?

I don't think the goalie department is to blame much for this year's goalie problems, but I do think they made a BAD decision in clearing out Melanson and hiring this Dave Rogalski guy.

That was one area of the coaching staff that did not need to be touched. Blackwood was playing great with Rollie Melanson was his goalie coach and has been AWFUL ever since.

And Marty was on a podcast a couple months ago and confirmed that Melanson was in fact let go and they decided to bring in new people and Rogalski came from St. Louis where Marty had been working for several years. I forgot the exact quote but he said something like they decided to ''Clean up'' the staff with the new goalie coach hiring. I don't know if he felt we needed to make a change just because there's a new GM/regime or because he wanted to make the hire himself.

I'm not sure of who is all part of the goalie department, but it's definitely Marty and Scott Clemmensen.

I can't prove firing Melanson caused Blackwood to go downhill, because it could have also happened if we kept Melanson, but it was certainly fixing something that wasn't broken.

Schneider failed under Melanson because he was already starting to faile before Melanson was hired (that's why he got hired in the first place, remember?) and Kinkaid had reached his shelf life in the NHL (and he even had his best season in the NHL under Melanson, by the way) by that point.

I would blame Melanson for Schneider and Kinkaid's downfall as much as I'd blame Rogalski for Gillies and Hammond being worthless here, which is not one bit.

Yeah I think people are hesitant to criticize the legend... but I'm with you. I think Dave Rogalski & Scott Clemmensen could be criticized as well
Rogalski definitely. Not sure much of what Clemmensen does, but he and Marty both seemed to think the goalie coaching position needed to be cleaned up, as Marty is on record saying in that podcast. That confirms that Melanson was let go and didn't decide to leave on his own like he did in Vancouver, which I believe was to help take care of his mother who was ill.

Blackwood might still not be good these last two years even if Rogalski was never brought in and Melanson was here the entire time. See Blackwood's 17-18 AHL season when Rogalski wasn't around.

When we had a younger goalie that was looking so promising, firing the goalie coach that was here when he came into the NHL was fixing something that wasn't broke.

I notice certain ways our other goalies play breakaways and wonder if this is a Rogalski symptom or if they just suck at them. There was this one move the first few months of the season that every goalie was doing here on more than half of the breakaway moves, both in-game and in the shootout. Where the goalie would just plop on his belly and hope the shooter missed, hit the post or a defenseman would somehow hook the guy or get the puck back themselves.

That was happening on a lot of the breakaways earlier in the season, no matter who was in net, which at that time was mostly just Bernier and Blackwood.

And with that said, I find it hard to believe that Gillies or Hammond or a very young, raw and not nearly NHL ready Daws would play better no matter who the goalie coach was or what (NHL) team they were on.

Does Marty really have a lot to do with the day to day goalie management? He's a suit upstairs more into third jerseys than coaching, maybe he talks to the goalies in passing. Clemmensen and Rogalski are more the organizational day to day coaches but part of the issue with the goalies is also due to the training staff.

Yeah, I don't know how much he's actually doing and I'm not entirely sure I want him involved in actual hockey decisions tbh.

I wish I lived there so bad . I’d love to be a STH . We are going to be a powerhouse soon and I can see the attendance numbers climb. Hopefully the Hughes brothers , Bratt , Nico , Mercer , Hamilton Hoktz and the gang being in new fans to the game

Oh yes , forgot Slafkovsky . He will bring new fans in as well lol

I was playing around with capfriendly, thoughts on
Johnsson for a draft pick
Bernier will probably be IR?

Sign
Gaudreau 10.5?
Kulak 3?
Campbell 3?
And resign the RFAs

Hughes, Nico, Bratt, Gaudreau, Shango, Mercer, Zacha, Boqvist, Tatar, Bastian, Wood, Zetterlund, McLeod, Holtz

Hamilton, Severson, Graves, Smith, Seig, Kulak, White, Bahl

Blackwood, Campbell

As a base, probably forgot someone but an idea for a pipedream like with Gaudreau, but it might be possible. I'd just like to think of a scenario where Hall and Larsson stayed, but things happened and Devils sign and signed Hamilton and Gaudreau as alternatives while picking up some other pieces along the way, course corrected potentially.

I think as far as Johnny Hockey goes, someone mentioned that there is only one puck and both Johnny and Jack love to have it on their hockey sticks 95% of the time.

10,5? With all due respect but are you crazy?
