He played his cards better than anyone else could have? This is some next level apologism. Saying that the moves he made are still benefiting the franchise is like saying the way Blackwood has played this season is the reason the team is good. Shero did the minimum you’d expect a rebuilding GM to do. Just about all the home run swings he went for didn’t work out and the only long term impact was further delaying the rebuild. Dude had no vision for how to construct a team with pieces that fit each other, and he certainly didn’t seem to have any interest in developing a proper defense core.

Shero is as mediocre a GM as you can get. Even in Pittsburgh he sort of just stumbled into one Stanley cup despite having two generational centers that were gifted to him for 9 seasons.

There are any number of other GM’s we could have had that would have been as “successful” as Shero was. He didn’t do anything special here at all.
yeah i’m sure any GM could turn adam larsson into taylor hall. or draft one of our best forwards in the sixth round. or draft our top 2 centers (when fishermen were clamoring for kakko, by the way, who also spent years shitting on nico). our forwards went from a bunch of uutu’s to what we see today. and yes, i realize he didn’t have the time to fix the defense too, i’m so sure he would’ve passed on drafting luke and signing hamilton.

just like every year when we have this conversation, i’ll point out that the moves shero didn’t make, which geriatric lou would’ve made in some sad attempt to stay relevant, were as important as the ones he did make. that’s why we had draft picks to make and trade. he bit the bullet, sucked it up and racked up the L’s. somebody had to do it, and it sure as shit wasn’t going to be lou. i shudder to think where this franchise would be now with that bald f*** at the helm. maybe by now we’d have 4 coaches simultaneously, eclipsing his previous record of three. i’d guess it would be lemaire, skrlac, maclean and terreri.

again, shero thanks for drafting competently so we could acquire timo. although i’m sure the sharks would’ve also been fine with checks notes …joshua jacobs lmao. what a john-quenneville-drafting-ass bitch.

I’m not the least bit concerned with the 1sts going the other way. We were expecting to lose this year’s in the deal anyway. We have one of the deepest and best prospect pools in the league and Castron and company have done very well identifying talent in later rounds. Our 1sts will likely be in the 20s for some time going forward. It’s the price contending teams need to pay at times and we’re finally there again. We just need to sign Meier and the scouting team to continue doing what they do.

Wonder how the set up will be

Got to figure jack and Bratt on the halfwalls with Dougie up top,
Leaving timo for the net front presence or bumper position

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

It's not narrow at all. Fitz was never going to trade Mercer
I had soaked my tiki torch in kerosene and was prepared to march around with it in my backyard chanting "Hell No, Mercer can't go!!" I'm sure numerous others were ready to do the same. Say what you will, Fitz narrowly dodged that public outburst. Of course, I'd only get about two laps around the yard in before my wife would tell me to put out the torch before I set fire to one of the dogs and stop horsing around and take out the trash.

Nobody said Lou would have done any better. But if you think what Shero accomplished here couldn't have happened with any number of other average GM's, you're out to lunch. The Larsson-Hall trade wasn't about Shero being awesome, it was about Chia being a complete moron. Giving him big marks for first overall selections is also being incredibly generous. Jack was the consensus pick, and Nico was a 50/50 based on consensus, kudos to Ray for picking the right one but let's not make it seem like it was some visionary off the board move. We can give him credit for Bratt, sure...but let's not pretend that's not offset by a couple of first rounders that didn't live up to their draft position.

Your hatred of Lou seems to be the main impetus for pumping Ray's tires. Keith Kincaid wasn't a great goalie just cuz he had a better peak here than Marty's twilight seasons, you dig?

Mercer can do a quality job on either line IMO. I would give Nico an option to start with Meier since they have also played together. Make the opposition have to make a choice on who they try to use their shutdown players on.
Ot just seems like Palat is a waste on the 3rd line. And breaking up Tatar Nico Mercer would be hard too…
I want to do whatever e can to keep Mercer going. Him gaining confidence and lighting it up is huge. He can be a huge difference maker in the playoffs .
No chance they use Meier on what coild be seen as our 3rd” line , without either one of Nico or Jack nut coild Meier theoretically drive his own line? I,don’t wamt to see him on the third line at all ,just curious if ne could be some stupid option Ruff might use…..
Where does Shara play now ? Is he useful as a third line and what we are wanting out of our bottom 6?

Wanna cycle and grind a team down.

Palat Nico Meier could be interesting.
True . But does that leave enough grind for Jacks line ? So do you use Tatar or Mercer with Bratt amd Jack?
I want Mercer to be left where he is as he is on a crazy hot streak and dont want to potemtially mess that up

37 or 39 picks(don't remember and don't feel like looking it up) with two #1OA in 4 years. The average HF poster could've done as well at the draft table as Shero did....two #1OA and the other two 1st rounders are Ty Smith and Michael McLeod....Christ that sucks.

Bratt and I'll give you Sharangovich in nearly 40 picks? I just don't understand anyone touting that garbage.

Our PP unit was a relative weakness and we just landed one of the best PP players in the league who is also a perfect 5 on 5 fit. I mean, let them underestimate us.

when you need a goal in the third period to tie or put a game away and your gifted a pp its big help adding timo could've turned some of those losses to wins this season if we had him.
