But that's the thing... He hasn't even decided if he wants to be traded yet. That's kind of a red flag for me. He really doesn't seem all that motivated

Super fair, I personally don't want Kane either. It would be a funny troll to see the Devils trade for him and he absolutely goes god mode on them, but alas smart hockey moves aren't based on how much you want to troll your biggest rival. I said it on the main board, I think he's in limbo with the draft lottery with his future in Chicago. I actually feel for the Hawks (lol) in this situation but Kane has really screwed them multiple times with this lollygagging of his decision

Dropping Bratt down and moving up Tatar Downey sound like a recipe for success. I’ll also suggest thr numbers aren’t kept all that accurately. Take a look at natural stat trick. Maybe I misread it but they had Hischier for zero high danger chances last game when he had that one where he dangled two Kraken and shot it off thr iron. If that wasn’t a high danger chance the stat is flawed.
Is he related to Robert Downey Jr.?

I thought he was Novak.

I don’t think Kane would be a bad player, I just don’t want a pricey rental. I’m not going to shit on the guy, I just don’t want him.

To me the 1st has to be used on a piece that makes the team better in the long-term.

Kane isn’t a guy I would want to re-sign even to a short deal.

To me he isn’t even a back-up plan.

I already said this last night, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kane starts next year on the shelf, if his hip injury is really a problem.

So if he really isn't sure he wants to leave the Hawks or not, then he should just let himself get rented out and come back and sign with them again next year? If his hip needs surgery or something though, he'll likely not play for a large chunk of next season, much like Backstrom this year, who didn't debut until like last month was it? Or later December?

This is just me hypothetically guessing he may need surgery on his hip.

If he does need surgery on it, teams would have to know about that before they agree to trade for him, which the market for him could be really weak if he does.

There’s virtually no reason for the Devils to go after Kane. Not to mention he seems to only be trying to come back to do the Blackhawks a solid by getting assets for him via trade.

He offers nothing we don’t already have with Bratt/Hughes. He’s a redundant skill set on our power play. He’s a redundant skill set on lines 1/2.

If we trade for a forward, it should be to fill a role this team doesn’t have like a physical presence in the top six or an interior/net-front guy for the power play. If that’s not an option, then someone to bolster the middle-six group.

I’m so glad we signed useless Wood to over $3 million a year.

I was one of the people who didn’t want to re-sign him over this headache, so don’t @ me on that one. I was complaining about it even before it was signed and he was on his way to arbitration.

Can’t wait to do the same shit with Blackwood next year at his qualifying offer.

If they’re taking wood I’m interested
I would trade him for a pair of shit stained underwear at this point.

First of all, it will make the team a little better getting that crater out of here and second of it all, if will free up cap space that shouldn’t have been there with him in the first place.

And the shitty underwear can just get tossed in the trash.

Too bad we can’t toss him in the trash.

I don't want Kane, but where exactly do people think we're getting this cap space?

Johnsson has a NTC although he'll probably waive for any team that will play him in the NHL. Even at 50% retention and AJ we'd need to send even more salary back.
My guess is that for Kane a potential move may involve a third party for a lot of teams.

But personally, I don't think Kane goes anywhere.

Excellent breakdown. As I’ve said numerous times, the Devils have major structure issues and are relatively easy to play against. Ruff is doing a horrible job making adjustments. It’s roller hockey run and gun

It’s crazy that a few of the structural issues have persisted for seasons now and even new coaches haven’t improved them.

The new coaches brought some good ideas but other teams work to avoid situations where those ideas come into play.

No to Kane! Please don't bring him here.

His attitude is piss poor right now, and has specifically had a general negative aura around his persona his entire career (the earlier accusations, the cab incident, general jerk, and he was part of the main core that was part of the Blackhawks during that troubled era with the video coach/Quennville/accusations the situation etc.).

Maybe it is misplaced judgement on my part, sure possible, but I really think this team doesn't need a guy with that kind of baggage. We already have this weird cloud with McLeod.

Yeah, he was an awesome player, no doubt about it, but not someone I want affiliated with this team.

The Hischier line has to be broken up. They’re a big reason why the our advance stats have dipped over the last month.

Since Jan 15th the entire team has sucked possession wise.

Does the article mention that every other forwards xG% is even worse 5v5 (including Hughes)?

I don’t have any particular loyalty to that line or any line combos.

But he’s likely wrong that going back to the lines we used in November would suddenly bring back the same juicy possession numbers.

Jack Han’s article is a lot better better than this. (I don’t even like his line suggestions that much here.)
