Is this score adjusted? A lot of the reason the raw numbers don't look terrible is because of score effects. The Devils have been playing from behind a lot, needing to push, and the opposition fine with sitting back.

Per NST for the last 25 games, I see Devils between 49% and 52% for all of Corsi, xG, SC, and HDC - which is okay, but not great. But that is not score adjusted. At Evolving Hockey, which has score-adjusted stats, the Devils are 50% Corsi but down to 47% xG. That is not good at all - ranked 25th in the league. And it's been trending down.

I think there is some evidence that Ruff's systems are essentially being "solved". I've been pretty consistent that I don't like Ruff's playing style, as basically no modern NHL teams play a defensive zone scheme that the Devils do. Video below from Jack Han also has some interesting hypotheses on NJ's systems flaws. The breakout fails are things I've visually noticed quite often. The forecheck is something I have not visually noticed, but running an aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck is something that basically no other team does now.

Lindy’s systems are junk. Team wins in spite of, not because. We need to move on from him after this season.

If we get steamrolled in round 1 I’m pretty confident it will be because of what this video highlights.

He’s not bad. I wanted him here a few years ago.

But I’m not sure I want one more year of him after this at that cap hit.

But on the bright side, it’s not too much more than we were all ready to extend Miles Wood for a few months ago!:sarcasm:
Not worth the cap hit, but a good kid from the local NYC hockey people I know who know him. San Jose handed out bad contracts like drunken sailors for years.

No way on Labanc . Way too expensive for what he brings.
Way better options for way cheaper.
About Henrique , if we get enough retention to make him same cost as we are paying for Wood right now , I guess it would be not too bad. Let Wood walk then .
I don’t know , I just think payimh what’s needed for Meier is the way to go then tweak the bottom 6 after we know what we need different , if anything . Meier brings exactly what we need . Brings the size and interior play we are looking to add but also drives play , has awesome 5 on5 metrics , potential 50 goal scorer.

Boqvist + 3rd for Henrique @50%

Holzt + 1st + Johnsson + Muhkmadullin for Meier @ 50%

Palat-Hischier-Bratt
Meier-Hughes-Henrique
Tatar-Haula-Mercer
Wood-McLeod-Bastian/Zetterlund
Sharangovich

Siegenthaler-Hamilton
Graves-Marino
Smith-Severson
Hughes
Bahl

That team would run over the Rangers in 5, it's probably just Meier or Henrique though.

Do not get the Labanc love. What element of his game would help the Devils? He has only scored more than 40 pts in 7 NHL seasons one time. He does not bring a physical element. He only has 83 shots in 45 games. I do not see production on the PP. Does he kill penalties?

Much rather them go after Barbashev ....Or Buchnevich....Not sure if that rumor of call us back b4 you deal Timo is true sounds stupid to me..Make an offer and if San Jose doesn't like it or want to talk about it move on....He is not resigning with San Jose the longer this goes could backfire on San Jose like Miller in Vancouver....

Those are the 3 I want. Koeneckny would be dope too, but that’s a pipe dream.

Anyone have any idea if the hat hats will be re-released any time soon? I'd love to buy one.
Sorry for the late reply on this but I actually sent an email to the youth foundation a while ago and they said they didn’t plan on making any more unfortunately. I’ve been looking for one for a while now.

You can find them every now and then on Ebay going for $160+ which is ridiculous but, alas, supply and demand.

Some of you guys are under selling Luke's impact at the end of the season.

He's spent all year in the weight room with weekend home games. The rest of the NHL has been busting their ass for 82 games. Players slow down and get worn out and Luke will be coming in fresh.

The college guys always outperform when they sub in at the end of a season.

You may be right!

(Edit: he wasn't in college but played for CNT which was similarly shorter schedule)

The tricky thing for the Devils is that I think Fitz wants Meier long term. Meanwhile, SJ doesn’t need to trade Meier at the deadline. He’s RFA, not UFA. Possible that return increases at the draft as teams will have more cap space.

If we’re just talking about this playoffs, I agree: make an offer then move on quickly. I’d rather execute on a plan than wait around and get forced into a bidding war with limited alternatives.

But, if we’re talking about roster construction for the next several years and Fitz has identified Meier as a core piece? Then I’d rather he be laser focused on Meier and not worry about specific tinkering for this year. If Meier moves at the deadline, Fitz needs to be in it. If Meier doesn’t move until the draft, then Fitz needs to have saved assets until then.

Personally, I think Meier is core. I’d prioritize acquiring him over everything else on the table right now - meaning I’d stand pat at the deadline if Meier doesn’t move.
