Toffoli for a 1st. Miller for a 5th. Smith for a 6th. Take on a shitty contract for a pick. Shut down Jack and Timo. It’s time to get all the assets we can and hopefully lose as many games as possible.
We absolutely cannot try to resign Toffoli. His contract will be negative value. Might as well maximize what we can get and trade him and use those assets to try to acquire a G.

Not Markstrom though, he will be 35 next year. We need someone younger.

I don't think Toffoli will get a first...but I'm thinking something like Toffoli for:

2nd + Matyas Sapovaliv from VGK ?
Something around Kaliyev from the Kings?
Pick + Ponomaryov from Canes?

vancouver is supposedly interested, but they have neither a first or second this year. I have no idea what they would offer.

Can something be considered around Toffoli and Spencer Knight? Would Florida have interest in Toffoli? They seem far more interested in defense....so unless we are giving up Marino for Knight, not sure that's going to be a fit.

Sapovaliv and a 2nd would be great. That kid has the makings to develop into a solid two way 3C. Shit I might not even need the 2nd in there.

86 would have to come back next year with a new attitude, a new body, and a completely changed mindset to have any redemption at this point. He is an embarrassment to this franchise with his hubris and inability to come up big in any actual crucial moment.

I don’t care at all about the injuries. You say you’re healthy then go play up to your “standard”.

He disgusts me and I’m done with him.

thats enough internet for you tonight my friend

It's gonna be next level comedy when guys like Holtz/Hatakka play in their actual roles post trade deadline and they start winning games
I suspect we'll win games in garbage time regardless of the roster or players we use.

We probably have another 8 or so wins in us

There is no way Fitz can trade the first for anything. Devils are only a few pts from 2nd to last. Pens are now, the ones with games in hand.

The Devils had their chance and blew it. Its one thing to make up pts, its another to jump multiple teams. The 3pt games make it extremely difficult to jump multiple teams.

Fitz needs to trade Toffoli. Any other situation, would be pour cap/assets management. This team won’t get many more opportunities to be sellers.

So what center prospects could be available to us? If all things are considered equal, the Devils need to address lack of organizational depth at center (even more now that McLeod is gone). Too bad there isn’t a stud goalie prospect this year. Figures.

Yeah the fact the pick is looking very likely to be top 10, makes it more difficult for me to come to terms with moving unless it’s a slam dunk deal. Which Markstrom is not because of age.

If Tommy Fitz is the GM there will be plenty of other opportunities to be sellers at the deadline.

Turns out “inheriting literally all of another GMs talent” isn’t all that difficult. Allowing the team to take the next step absolutely is.

The Yankees had all of the talent in the world. It took a GM Change and the firing of a legendary manager for them to take the next step.

Fire Fitzgerald, fire Ruff, take the next f***ing step.

See my post a few spots up. Sapovaliv from VGK would be my target if they wanted Toffoli. I would do that straight up and even throw in nosek for them to have additional depth, given McCrimmon would be familiar since he was with them their trip to the cup finals in year one plus Cassidy would have some familiarity from his Boston days.

Berkly Catton will probably be gone before they pick, so the prime candidates will be Konsta Helenius and Tij Iginla.

I see he’s a big kid at 6’4”. What are his best attributes?

Who are you replacing Fitz with?

Nico, Bratt and Jack is pretty much all Fitz inherited. Good start for sure but that's not a roster...

Not a single defender, not a single legit goaltender, after Bratt there were hardly any viable wingers...Almost everything else was spare parts

Fitz added Vitek, Hamilton, Marino, Siegenthaler, Graves drafted Luke and Nemec....added extras in Miller and Smith....the entire defense literally.

Brought in Palat, Haula, Toffolli, Meier, Lazar...drafted Mercer and Holtz.

Shit blew up this year....but Fitz has done a masterful job shaping this roster from nothing.

Markstrom is likely thr goalie they trade for in the summer. If the price is right, just do it now and try to stop the bleeding and end the season on some kind of positive note.

Ruff should be fired as well this week.

Sinking further into the abyss will do more harm then improving our draft position will do good.

I expect Markstrom at the deadline - even with few other potential buyers - would be more expensive than Markstrom at the draft

I don't care at all about a goalie right now, season is almost as good as gone. Get a new coach in ASAP, see this team play under a different rule set and system, find the holes going into the offseason and then address all of them.

if we give up assets for markstrom instead of accumulate assets i might make a “what are you doing fitz?!” poster for the game tuesday

Sell what you can and start focusing on the offseason. There's no point trying to save this season anymore.

Obviously Ruff needs to go. I'd do it now to see how the players respond. If they're still flat, we might have bigger, deeper issues than coaching and goaltending.

As long as they aren't making that move in order to save the season and they still sell off on toffoli and whatever else, I'm fine with that.

the problem with firing ruff now is the team is out of it already. you’re not going to get as much buy in or effort from the guys because there is always an inevitable slump when the season slips away. who is playing for their job next season? bahl? lazar?

seriously f*** fitz for letting it get to this point. there’s a quarter of the season left and the team is broken

I am pretty familiar with the O. So have seen him play quite a bit. High, high IQ. Won’t be a high point producer per se, but like I said I see a strong 3C who can go over the boards in any situation. Prolly a moot discussion since what are the realistic chances that not only Toffolli goes to Vegas, but that is the return.
