Nobody pumps Johnssons tires, if anything everyone wants to slash them.
Yeah, definitely not at this point. Last offseason and maybe even in the first half of the season? Different story.

I have to say that of all the pending UFA's and Blackwood (RFA but should be let go to UFA if another bad season), Johnsson is the one guy I have not noticed a single person suggesting we re-sign.

I've seen people suggest we should re-sign Severson, I've seen at least one person recently suggest we should re-sign Graves if cheap, I've seen people suggest we should re-sign Wood if he has a good season and is healthy. I've seen people suggest we should re-sign Blackwood. I've seen at least one person suggest we should re-sign Haula depending on how he performs this season.

I've seen just one person (but it's still someone) suggest we should re-sign Tatar just because he speaks the same language as Nemec.

I've not seen a single post by anyone this offseason suggesting we should re-sign Johnsson. I may have missed it, but I've noticed not one suggesting of re-signing him being a possibility. There was even one suggestion for a Tatar re-signing, but not Johnsson.

And at this point I think it's been universally agreed on that he needs to be waived if no we can't find a taker to trade for him.

I do not like him, Sam I am!
I do not like Johnsson, my man!

Would you sign him for the bench?

I would signs Grave, if cheap, for bench
I would sign Tatar for Nemec
I'd re-sign Macblack for a bit
And Miles Wood, if in a cinch!
But I don't like Johnsson, my man!
I do not like him, Sam I am!

I'd love to keep Severson but the Marino deal kills that notion.

Aside from the personal attack, which is your MO, what exactly is anything of value in this post? Is there a point? I know you find your opinions to be unchallengeable, and yourself pretty important as the gatekeeper on a message board, but honestly: show me one sentence in your post that has anything to do with my op. Did you just see the name of the poster and want to get a shot off, bc pretty much everything in my post describes why the guy is obviously so polarizing to the fanbase.

There are literally zero players I 'hate' or have hated on the Devils. I don't like the way Severson got free passes on his catastrophes bc of corsi, or the way the stats fanboys pump Johnsson's tires, but it's not like I'm ever on anyone's case bc 'i just don't like them'.

You and your posts I could do without so I'll go the ignore button route and we will be all good.
I'm curious, is there a stat you actually like? It seems like everytime somebody brings up a stat that doesn't support your argument that stat is somehow flawed or that person is dismissed as being a "stat fanboy".

I think Johnsson is good. He should've been gifted the cushy gig Zacha got handed all last year and would've easily outperformed him.

Man I really think Zacha being gone is gonna be huge or this team. He's the one guy who got spoonfed top-6 and a first PP minutes that didn't deserve it all, and I think that rubs off on everyone else. He took his opportunity and threw it in the trash, and he got shipped out for a 3rd line center on an expiring contract. Let that be a lesson to all the new guys.

Johnsson plays hard but seemed to wear down as the season went on. Not surprising for a smaller winger playing a more physical game.

Johnsson deserved some pumping at the start of this season considering he had 17 points, with 9 goals, in his first 19 games.

It was clearly a hot streak, even though some people were in denial about the Bratt-Mercer-AJ line’s potential longevity, but I will admit thinking he would get to 20 goals. And I felt bad that he didn’t (only 13, poor fella, he does try).

I find this whole “I lash out to just balance the overall board reaction to player X” stance… not fruitful?

People just end up exaggerating the uniformity, drama and wrongness of the supposed take. And then the reverse can often happen in reaction.

If people don’t like Severson being praised for things he has done well in the last few seasons, while playing top minutes, then that’s too f***ing bad for them I guess.

And if people expect the bitching about his brain farts to go away before he does (or even after) well, good luck with that.

I don’t want to seem like I’m pretending to be completely above this sort of thing. I’m Team Damon yet resigned to the bashing, but I have my own hot buttons. (I get immediately cranky when people here fixate on 4th liners, like they win or lose us games. I’m trying to let it go because that’s an eternal feature here.)

Brunner and Gusev.

Brunner had one ridiculous goal... and Gusev was one of the bright spots in a bad season... but then they disappeared.

There's a really short list of players that provided some fun when they were here for a short time. Those two and Andrei Loktionov are on that list.
Jagr will always be my favorite short timer here because he had a phenomenal season considering his age and when we really had no one up front

I'm actually a really big fan of all of the WAR-ish player cards. I hate all of the goalie stats bc I'm a goalie apologist and I think they did a terrible job of qualifying shots.

They're great for supporting opinions, just not forming them.

I can't stand them in a vacuum and I don't think they always show a complete picture of a player's contributions to a game or team, bc they just aren't able to capture everything in a complex, chaotic sport like hockey.

I definitely like wins. More of them please.

Nobody seems to be considering it, but the Devils could decide to extend Severson and trade Marino. As it is now they both have a lot of incentive to perform.
I thought about this as well. Marino has yet to play a game for us . Everything points to Marino eventually replacing Severson but that can change if Marino is simply not a good fit. It will be interesting to see how it works out . I think trading Severson now would be too soon . Wait until the TDL at least and go from there.

He was so much fun to have around. Kind of surreal too.
It was the only ''Washed up'' signing that Lou has constantly made (especially over there with the Islanders) that actually wound up working and the player wasn't actually washed up.

Jagr was a legit 1st line player that year and still a 2nd line caliber player the next year.

I would say that was easily the fourth best year from a forward that we've had in the last 10 years, after 17-18 Hall and probably Hughes (even though he missed 40% of the season) and Bratt this year.

I’ve thought about this as well but if Marino plays solid defense while chipping in offensively here or there I don’t see how we could remove him and fit a larger Severson deal. I feel that the Hamilton deal was the end of Severson on this team unless he was willing to take a big discount to stay.

It feels like that was implied....
:laugh::laugh:

I’ve been up since before 5am so that’s my excuse. But… that’s messed up

Im sure people will be as accepting of Marino as they were Siegenthaler in his first stint... which was not at all

I dont get the Severson boners. The guy has been replaced just accept it already

I think while that's a possibility, it is an extremely remote possibility. Marino is cost controlled for like 4 more years. Severson is due for what will be a pretty substantial raise. I'd be fine with that being the case but I think that's a very remote possibility.

Marino is cost controlled for the next 5 seasons actually. He will be under contract at $4,400,000 AAV until April of 2027.

Jack Hughes will be 26 years old by the time Marino is due a new contract. Jesper Bratt will be turning 29 that summer.

That's how long Marino is under contract LOL.
