Jesper Bratt + Sharangovich. Guy is 100 points player. They can ask Holtz too.

Fitz give them a paper with a beautiful picture instead.
Too much .. I'd pass. Nobody else has stepped up to snatch Miller away, so perhaps he's just not worth what Vancouver is asking?

If Devils are a clear playoff team, I'd consider Severson and a 1st for Miller as a pure rental, call up Nemec. Canucks can either keep or swing Severson for futures. Basically 2 firsts for Miller as a rental is quite a return.

if Miller were free, we can have a conversation...but I do not want to give up assets for a 30 year old coming off a career year AND also sign him to big money

I wouldn’t mind having him just for one season helping the Devils becoming a playoff team and then see how it goes from there. But yeah, not willing to give up something “big.”

If we’re a clear playoff team and Severson is having a very good year, do we actually trade him though? Nemec would need to be absolutely crushing it in the U to even consider that move. Even then, I wouldn’t add a first to that package…maybe sevo and a third.

This upcoming draft is supposed to be the deepest since 2015. Giving up a first round pick for a rental, especially where the Devils are at as a team right now, is probably not the best idea.

Sharangovich - Hughes - Mercer
Palat - Hischier - Bratt
Tatar - Haula - Zetterlund
Wood - McLeod - Bastian
Johnsson, Boqvist

Graves - Hamilton
Siegenthaler - Severson
Smith - Marino

Blackwood
Vanecek
Bernier

Is that our 23 man roster without using LTIR?

Holtz, Thompson, Foote, Geertsen, Okhotiuk, Nemec, Bahl all start in AHL until injuries arise.

Next 2 years we will potentially have Luke/Nemec/Holtz/Grits
Top pair d
2 top 6 forwards
They all pan out, we better take advantage of their 3 year entry level deals...
I think we’ll be fine going forward capwise, but it would be nice if those guys would be staggered so they all don’t end their entry level deals the same year. If Hughes and Nemec get 10 games this year, they along with Holtz will be RFAs at the end of 2024-25. I forget how the KHL contracts work, but is Grits comes over in 2023-24, doesn’t he become a ufa in 2 years or is it RFA?

id much rather go this

Palat - Hughes - Sharangovich
Bratt - Hischier - Mercer
Tatar - Thompson - Zetterlund
Wood (if he can play) - Haula - Bastian

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Graves - Severson
Smith / Ok - Marino

Palat is the perfect utility guy who just does it all and I see it potentially working out really well with Jack and Yegor. A massive upgrade over Kuokkanen and that line was hot for a bit.

Mcleod is a pretty bad player, and we should move on from him honestly and we have the pieces to do that now.

I personally don't like Graves with Hamilton. Graves is fine in the defensive zone, but he tends to get caught in the offensive zone at a bad time and Hamilton doesn't know what defense is. Never thought I'd ever say Severson is better than anyone defensively, but he is definitely better at defense than Hamilton is.

If Holtz makes the team, that makes things interesting.

If Nemec plays 9 games or less this year, and makes the team next year, his ELC and Hughes ELC will be staggered 1 year apart as long as Hughes plays at least 1 game this year.

Hughes ELC would end at conclusion of 2024-25 season, Nemec ELC would end at conclusion of 2025-26 season.

Hoping its true that Nemec looks great and can force a move of Severson.

As much as Ive been a Severson fan, I want the value for him. Let Nemec play 3RD

Klingberg got a one year deal. Misjudged or not that is pretty dramatic. He’s a legit player but it won’t get any easier for him next season. I’m skeptical Severson gets 7 years at $7 mil per but we will see.
He won't get 7x7 and neither will Klingberg. Even if Klingberg did, that doesn't necessarily mean he is the better player. Could be an indication of a market inefficiency and/or a bad GM.

Ohhh, I just thought if they both played less than 10 this year they would both slide since they’re under 20.

I was probably too literal. My point is just that the tide may be turning on UFA deals a bit. Maybe just until the cap goes up but there are signs of a softer market. Klingberg bears at least passing resemblance to what I could see Severson commanding. If he was being sincere he suggested at some point he’d probably take less to stay with NJ. What would that look like? Hard to say and hard to say if NJ even cares at this point but would they be open to a three year deal? In recent years a guy like Sevs would scoff at a short term below market deal but in today’s world maybe he wpukd be open to it.

I don't understand slotting Thompson ahead of Haula. He has not proven anything worth playing over Haula.

It looks tailor made that the Devils traded for Haula to be the 3C.
