Fitz and Bratt’s agent are probably on the phone right now lol.
I disagree. I think Jesper hijacked Joakim's phone.

Fitz : "Hey Jesper."

Bratt : "Hey Fitz. What's up?"

Fitz : "Can you believe how bent out of shape HFBoards is right now?" *snicker*

Bratt : "I definitely can. One of them referred to me as a piece of shit and he doesn't have any knowledge of anything"

Fitz : "No one does and that's the beauty of it. We've fooled everyone.." "So....ready to complete this deal and make them look dumb?"

Bratt : "Let's do this."

Joakim Persson : "Am I in the room?"

Fitz, Bratt : "No."

I don’t understand why Brady matters, since we can’t swap out Bratt for Brady.

Is this an argument for letting Bratt walk if his demands are deemed too high or something?
Brady is a statue in the pocket and needs to hang it up at this point. He’s one hit away from Giselle having to spoon feed him dinner while he wears a bib.

Its just such an absolutely lazy narrative to say "Player A has more goals than Player B, so he must be better!"

There are SO many other things that go into whether a hockey player is good or not. It honestly boggles my mind how you could just read counting stats and determine that player A is better than player B because he scored more goals

What about their skating? transition game? edgework? boardwork? passing? play-driving and playmaking? defensive game? forecheck?
Is it lazy? Or do you just hate the fact that it just tosses away your player cards to irrelevancy with the most simplistic of stats?

The only thing that wins games is goals. The team that scores more goals still wins in the analytic age.

So... Not that it matters cause we'll have a good idea what the number will be anyway, but if it goes to arbitration, when does the judgement come down?

Gut feeling: a long term deal gets done. I have a hard time believing that it’s ALL about money for bratt. I’m sure he really likes playing here and wants to win with this group

Pretty sure its actually the team with the higher corsi while playing from behind in the 3rd period.

Yes, it is a lazy, dinosaur level way of thinking

GOALZ GOOD EVERYTHING ELSE NOT MATTER

I would hope that if you spend as much time as you do (and I do) posting on a message board about a hockey team we love, that you'd want to know as much information as possible about whether or not a player is good. Not just "MORE GOALS = BETTER"

The hockey guy did a 2015 redraft and had Blackwood at 22nd overall to the Capitals. He also debates putting him even a higher a few spots before that at 17th overall, but ultimately decides against it after realizing just how bad of a year he had and goes with Andrew Mangiapane in that spot. And that was even before he had Brock Boeser or Connor Garland on the board, which had me cringing. He eventually puts Boeser and Garland before him. I can't rationalize putting Blackwood ahead of any of them. That's just crazy at this point.

I will say I would absolutely put him ahead of Samsonov, who was taken at 22nd overalll, who he didn't have his in his first round redraft. Samsonov hasn't had as many good years in his career as Blackwood and his last two years ain't been much better.

Blackwood would probably be the first goalie taken in that draft in a redraft for me, unless I overlooked a goalie but I don't think I did.

I think 22nd overall is way too high for a 2015 redraft in 2022. He might have been 22nd overall of slightly higher if we did this in 2020. Especially when you consider goalies aren't even typically taken by the 22nd overall in many drafts in recent years.

He had Zacha at 28th overall, which is quite a steep drop. I'd still have him over Blackwood.

If I had to do this myself I think I'd have Blackwood taken probably pretty close to where he was originally taken. It wouldn't be any lower, but 22nd overall is too high for him in that draft. Maybe he'd go that high if he were drafted in 2016 and yes, I would draft him over Michael McLeod in a 2016 redraft if he had hypothetically been a 2016 draftee and not a 2015 draftee.

We should never have let Clarkson walk back in the day.

not saying this would happen, but if a deal got done and bratt fired his agent, i would assume he and fitz have no bad blood

wouldn't really surprise me either, since this agent seems relatively new regarding big ticket players

There’s betting on yourself, and then there’s what Bratt’s doing. I could see it paying off for him, but I could also see it backfiring.

I understood betting on himself 2 years ago, but I can’t see Bratt’s production jumping so much that a 7-7.5 mil deal will look like an absolute steal down the road for us. In fact, I think it’s way more likely that his production stays similar than it takes a huge jump. He might be leaving a lot of the money on the table.

I hate to say it because it obviously hurts the team, but backfiring would be so bittersweet if he goes all-in on himself and falls on his face.

He had one of the worst contracts ever in the salary cap era.

And to think that apparently Columbus (who wound up getting him eventually anyway) and Edmonton both offered him about a million more per year than what he got in Toronto.

Ondrej Palat getting $6 million a year in 2022 compared to if Clarkson got that in 2013 after just two particularly productive years (one being a lockout shortened season where he was particularly ghostly in the second half or really second quarter if you wanna call it that) is a joke.

I think Fitz realizes this and is playing hardball with Bratt. He can always go to arbitration, sign the player for one year, and do this all again next year. Making it a pretty big gamble for Bratt, risking injury or regression could cost him millions of dollars. Not as much incentive for Fritz to cave, other then keeping the player happy.
