I think I would do it, but I wouldn't want to give up much more than pick #2. The dude is a sure thing .. 24 years old .. two 40 goal seasons. He's be perfect along side of Hughes. I like Slaf and all, but he's a prospect .. DeBrincat has already proven he's an ace at the pro level.

not saying you’re wrong, but that would mean we’re getting an expensive 40 goal scorer over 2 cost controlled potential 25 goal scorers. if chicago wants the 2OA they should have to add, not us. if that’s too rich for their blood, they can keep debrincat and enable sexual assault like usual.

Seems a bit rich to me, but what do I know?

I don't think that they'll get it,, but I can 100% see why they would make the case that they should get the Eichel package for Cat, especially if a team can get him locked up long term simultaneously. Eichel got Krebs who was a very good prospect...probably top 20-25 not in the NHL when he was moved, similar to Holtz. They got a first (ended up pick 16), and Alex Tuch, an extremely talented forward on a pretty good long term contract. Tuch had 4.5 years left on his deal at 4.75. The Devils don't have pick 16, of course, they have pick 2, so maybe that is worth 16 + Tuch, but that would still support 2 + Holtz.

Again, don't think that they will get that, but I understand why they would ask for it. Eichel is a center, so there's obviously a ton more value there, but the contract at 10M is high and he has a pretty long injury history. He's played 70 games twice in a 7 year career and he wanted an experimental surgery.

No chance Debrincat carries close to the same value as Eichel and that package isn’t as good as 2OA+Holtz IMO. Pick 16 but was expected to be later at the time of the trade and even that plus Tuch is not worth 2OA. And then Holtz is probably a bit more valuable than Krebs but I could see a bit of an argument for otherwise.

But in terms of Eichel. He’s one of the most talented players in the league and Vegas was trading for him with the hope that he can be a top 5 center in the league for them going forward. There’s a reason he has a 10M contract.
Eichel is more talented and without a doubt higher rated and he’s a center.

LIS, don't think he gets it. Understand why Chicago would ask for it.

Not too many of us want him, but 100% something we have to watch out for imo

That trade has the potential to look really really bad for us in a few years.

I agree. Holtz + 2nd overall for DeBrincat is a price I'm not sure I would be willing to pay.

I would pay that price for Tkachuk though. Not sure abt DeBrincat.

I do wonder if DeBrincat could be acquired from Chicago using this kind of package:
- Holtz
- 2023 Top 10 protected 1st
- Smith or Mukhamadullin (Chicago's choice)
- Kuokkanen, Tatar, Johnsson, Zacha (Chicago's choice of one or two of them)
- Nolan Foote

That's 3 first round assets. A former first round asset that is no longer that (Foote). And 1-2 roster players.

That way, we could get DeBrincat and still select Slafkovsky.

Gibson isn't 2015-2018 Gibson anymore. He's not better than Blackwood, a healthy Blackwood likely eclipses Gibsons numbers

So weird so many people want to stick Mercer on the 3rd line. He just basically had the same D+2 as Jack Hughes averaging 2&1/2 minutes less per game.

It's almost like you can still give a guy a lot of ice time even if he's on the "3rd" line and having that type of depth is very helpful

But over his last 3 seasons (142 games) he’s a .904 goalie, -19 GSAA. Shit team, but I really don’t think he’s good anymore.

I'd need half retained to even consider it and then it's still risky since he's got 5 years left

This is something.... He'd be perfect for us because apparently all we give up are high danger chances (ignore the fact that we're top 5 in suppressing high danger chances)

Neither do I, and I want no part of that contract at all based on the recent play. But there's no way that Fitz isn't looking given that there is no bigger positive impact this team can make than going from the current goaltending situation to just an average goaltender (and even though his recent play would suggest he's not even an average goalie in the league right now, I don't know that people view him that way...he can probably still live off his rep right now, especially when he was an absolute monster for a stretch of the year last year). Debrincat, Fiala...their impact is negligible compared to what moving to an average goaltending situation would give this team. And for that reason, its definitely worth monitoring.

Gibson has been pretty bad for three straight years and has a 6.4M cap hit for the next FIVE seasons. Enormous risk with bringing in a guy like him. I would need them to give up a significant sweetener in order for the deal to work.

Something like Gibson + Comtois + Perreault/Pastujov for Blackwood + Zacha, even then I still don't think that's enough value. I like Blackwood's chances to rebound more than I like Gibson's.

I also think it's going to be really hard to convince ANA to retain given how much term he has left, they don't want 5 years of dead cap.

Damn I'm looking over their assets and they don't really have many good ones. I can't believe people think their rebuild is going better than ours.
