Fitzgerald also spoke glowingly of Foote, wouldn't be surprised to see him as one of the favorites for an open spot heading into camp. Basically now have 11 locks for the roster at forward, not including Boqvist, Holtz, Clarke, Foote or Thompson.
Ya I meant to include him. Think he’s basically a lock. As is Boqvist. Think 13 of 14 spots are filled. We’re either adding another or Holtz is likely on the opening roster IMO.

Everyone who is penciling Bratt or Toffoli at LW, they both have exclusively played the right side. And I personally have zero reason to think that will change. It’s either gonna be Haula or Mercer at 3C is my assumption barring any more top 9 impacting moves up front
you are confidently incorrect. bratt has played plenty of LW.

I still think if we add anything else it will be to put someone in Sevo's spot so Nemec can have one more full year in Utica.
Ya that’s the most likely. Maybe another bottom 6 forward and a depth goalie given Daws injury. Basically a depth player at every position is possible but our roster is probably pretty set if we resign the rest of the RFA’s like I expect we will

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we just added a defensive 3 RD and went with 13 F/8 D. Although that would bench Nemec a bit too much for my liking.

Definitely need a tweeners goalie to mentor the kids in Utica and be an emergency call up. Fitz has learned his lesson and knows goalie depth can be key.

Would be just fine to do this; feels as though NJ is already a top-5 roster this coming season

Wonder if Fitzgerald is going to strike while the iron is still hot and get Hellebyuck who, miraculously, they can still afford

If they get Helly, it's going to be what they did with Timo at 50%. No one clearly wants to pay his extension at the moment, LAK went and got PLD over fixing their issue in net from the same team. I can honestly see Hellebuyck being the best rental next deadline or someone pulls a Kuemper Avs situation. I wouldn't have an issue with whatever they do in net. My first preference would be getting Saros out of Nashville in 2024 then get Helly at 50% and see what happens

lmao don’t drink and post, my bad man haha. i read that as 10/8, like “let’s ice 4 lines of defense every night”. i’ve also been smashing negronis since 6pm.

if a hellebyuk trade includes vanecek going the other way, there’s certainly room

It would be awfully tight. I think a lot of us are underestimating what some of our RFAs will get.
It would still be very tight and I can’t really see Vanacek being involved in this deal.
Think Hellebyuk is highly unlikely

But would Winnipeg want to retain 50% given they don’t seem to view themselves as being in a rebuild? I doubt they would be ok with that. And they’re probably asking for Schmid, not Vanacek. Plus other assets. Would be a costly trade. Probably wouldn’t be able to work it in with Meier and the extension to keep him might be way too high.

I'm not sure we have the room once we sign Timo.
Didnt run it through a calculator after the deal today.. but if Vanecek's deal goes back it could be doable; we had about ~6m in cap space before Tofolli if every remaining RFA got 125%

Could also entertain Boqvist out for Foote to save another, what, ~500k?

If they get a better return, why not? It's one year at 3M, Chevyldayoff isn't stupid like most GM's when it comes to trades. He just fleeced LAK today.

would it be tight? if vanecek is going the other way, that’s only a difference of $2.7m. Devils have $19m to sign Meier ($8.5) and a fourth line of RFAs and mayyyyybe a depth defenseman.

Feels like there’s plenty of room tbh.

Ya, I think I ran it with higher numbers. I'm expecting McLeod and Bastian to get more than a 25% raise.

If we managed to pull it of, again, it would be awfully tight.

Not sure Bastian warrants it but Mikey did earn himself a higher escalator, agreed there. Think Lazar's contract can help mitigate a daily caphit dance if Boqvist is moved (if we wanted a trade deadline play)

Wouldnt put it past Fitzgerald to figure something out. With all of the dead money coming off next year the chance to jump on a player now who has 1-year, parlayed into an extension, is enticing to say the least

Sure, if we make an already expensive trade even more expensive it’s possible. But the trade is already gonna be more than risky enough. Chevyldayoff is also trying to win now and probably places extremely high value on that cap space one and on getting contributing players back as he showed today as well. I don’t see how this trade would make sense or workout unless the market for him is dry which is unlikely. Nor do I really want to do it given the likely cost for how much risk comes with it.

I'm using:
Boqvist: 1M
Bahl: 1.2M
McLeod: 1.8M
Bastian: 1.8M
Meier: 8.5M

I think that puts us about 700K over the cap.
