Healthy groin Palat is going to cook next year. He’ll have a big year 2 in NJ like Tatar did.
Anderson is tied with players such as Bratt, Marchand, and Stamkos over the last 3 years in 5v5 goals. Good for 45th in the league. He scores more then the occasional goal.We let Miles Wood walk. If we were interested in a guy that skated fast in a straight line and scores the occasional goal, we would’ve kept him. Josh Anderson with double retention isn’t even appealing.
I wouldn’t expect nearly the impact of Tatar. Tatar was an elite playdriver before we signed him. Palat was an average 2nd liner. He’ll be better than he was last year but that also shouldn’t be that hardHealthy groin Palat is going to cook next year. He’ll have a big year 2 in NJ like Tatar did.

Tatar has better advanced stats. Palat has had the much, much, much better career. He is at his best when it matters most.I wouldn’t expect nearly the impact of Tatar. At least the playoff performance was already there.I wouldn’t expect nearly the impact of Tatar. Tatar was an elite playdriver before we signed him. Palat was an average 2nd liner. He’ll be better than he was last year but that also shouldn’t be that hard
He’s tied for 97th in total goals over the last 3 seasons and is useless when not scoring unlike the players you made this weird comparison with.Anderson is tied with players such as Bratt, Marchand, and Stamkos over the last 3 years in 5v5 goals. I'm not even sure what double retention is, but I do think there is a level at which he becomes appealing. Not that I expect him to ever be in NJ.
Even 97th is very good. But it's not a weird comparison, it's a rebuttal to the idea that he scores the "occasional goal", no he scores goal at a similar rate to some of the best players in the league. He’s tied for 97th in total goals over the last 3 seasons and is useless when not scoring unlike the players you made this weird comparison with.
Not sure if it’s still allowed, but double retention would be team A retains, player is sent to a team, they retain and send them to another team. I wouldn’t even want him in this circumstance. Not a good player.
The odd thing here is, Palat had solid underlying stats this season. He didn't have the individual regular season stats we might have expected, but his xGF was 5th amongst NJ fwds at 58%.Tatar has better advanced stats. Also 57% in the playoffs which was 4th amongst Devils forwards behind Bratt, Hischier and Meier (not counting Sharangovich and Lazar due to games played)The odd thing here is, Palat had solid underlying stats this season. Tatar's underlying #'s dropped off significantly in the playoffs too. So the "he played well but the team couldn't finish" reasoning doesn't fly with Tatar. Also 57% in the playoffs which was 4th amongst Devils forwards behind Bratt, Hischier and Meier (not counting Sharangovich and Lazar due to games played)
Getting injured right at the start of the season and not being at 100% all year sucks. He gets a mulligan as far as I’m concerned. Hopefully he’s 100% to start the year.He better. Though I give him credit for showing up in the playoffs as he always does.
Palat stole Fox and Krieder’s lunch money in what turned out to be the series deciding play and goal. He gets more than a pass from me just for that alone.

Does that mean he's a top player? Again, no, but he scores goals at a high rate, and if you could get that guy for under $2 mil(which I assume is where double retention would get you), it's a pretty easy call.
