Everyone should see a therapist even if you are "happy."

There are so many beneifts and there are no drawbacks to ever seeing one

You can’t be serious. No drawbacks to ever seeing one? I’ve heard many horror stories about therapists telling their patients awful, hurtful things.

This is exactly what I was referring to earlier. No, all therapy isn’t good, and no, not everyone needs to see one.

The furthest I’d go is to say that pretty much everyone will, at some point in their lives go through some difficulty where they could benefit from good therapy.

i once laughed as i walked up to the pitch before one very special match...
bitter rivals... and wanting to deny them their promotion to the next level ......f*** these pukes

i laughed while putting my gear on...i laughed while my teammates wondered....

"what the f*** is so funny?"

i couldnt stop laughing... it was my jack nicholson in the shining moment. i knew what i was going to do, and was about to happen.

the second the play started i made sure that the tone was set. i didnt shut up .... im just berating....whatever....yelling encouragement, force play....pin 'em.... go go go

"they're going to play OUR game! they got no say in it! it's going to happen!"

i was losing my voice....didnt care. some of my teammates even said "shut the f*** up!"

i didnt.

no, it was more.... and more.. 4 players on the other team refused to shake my hand after the match.

last thing i said was,

'that's why i did this tonight... so i can do this again next season' (denying their league promotion to higher division)

Did the other inmates stop yelling at you after you’d taken your medication and they fitted you for a straight jacket?

55 long days left till the season starts. This feels like the longest off-season ever, I think mostly because because for once in a long time we're relevant.

Which is ironic because the offseason is literally shorter given that we made it to the second round. Definitely know what you mean though.

I think it's also the fact that our core is pretty set, and most of our major offseason moves already happened before UFA started. We're not expecting any other shoes to drop, except maybe a trade for a goalie.

Whereas last offseason, there were obvious holes to fill, and moves like the Vanecek, Marino, and Haula trades happened in July. It was a shorter stretch without any Devils news.

I’m all for people getting the help they need, and if Bratt needs it, good for him for being open about it.

That said, some of this stuff just feels a bit dubious to me. Like, if a player was in constant need of physical therapy, you’d be a bit concerned. But these days therapy is coded as the Good and Responsible thing to do, and the fact that Bratt has been in therapy for more than six years is just shrugged off.

I wonder what would happen if one day his therapist just said to him “Jesper, you’re a healthy and well adjusted young man, go out and enjoy your life, and if something happens and you need to come back, I’ll be here.”

One thing that would happen is the therapist would stop getting checks.

We don’t need general anti-therapy takes, but this is isn’t his general therapist.

He’s sports psychologist.

FYI there’s been players whose careers were derailed by anxiety, OCD, depression. So some players might need therapy for years real conditions. It doesn’t mean they’re broken or not normal or the doctor is a charlatan.

But this sounds more like a sport psychologist that he’s seeing in the off-season to prep for the season. If it helps, it helps.

Technically the 2020 off-season felt like the longest off-season ever, because it was.

That’s because the break between games was 3/10/2020 to 1/14/2021 and the 2020 draft was October 6-7.

A bit different vibe going on with the team and life in general. (We waited so f***ing long for that draft though lol.)

I corrected myself in a subsequent post.

Bratt Pack was the one that conflated the “sports psychologist” (I don’t believe he is actually a psychologist) with Bratt “taking his mental and emotional health seriously”. Shame on me for taking anything that freak says at face value.

FWIW, just from a little poking around, this guy Andy Sward does not appear to hold himself out as any kind of doctor. He is a “mental coach” that probably offers similar advice to what you see in awful self help books and unbearable corporate team building events.

If someone believes in that shit, good for them, I don’t. And once again, I don’t doubt Bratt when he says it helped him, it’s probably a placebo.

Fake edit: LMAO, go look at this guy’s website, he’s an absolute charlatan. Zero qualifications for any of this.

If it helps Bratt with his mental preparation and makes him more effective, I don't care if he's seeing quack therapists, sending seed money to prosperity gospel preachers, or consulting voodoo priests and making offerings to Jobu.

Whatever works for him. It's our business only insofar as it affects his performance on the ice.

Yeah well he’s promoting the guy on social media, so I feel fine offering my opinion. And I agree, he’s free to do whatever dumb shit he wants that he thinks helps him.

thanks for letting us know.

Sounds like you might some issues and anger issues. I think you might need some therapy. It's okay, let it out.

Also you don't need to be a doctor to be a therapist too.

But if you knew any anything about modern mental health, you'd know why Bratt and many others do it.

I sure do, and I’m not anti-therapy in general, but in my experience most therapists are lousy. Partly because:

you don't need to be a doctor to be a therapist

I’ve been to therapy before, and I’ve gotten some good advice and insight, but also a whole bunch of garbage.

But if you knew any anything about modern mental health, you'd know why Bratt and many others do it.

Fair. I don’t claim to know either of these things.

When I was a boy of 10, I had a very best friend
Ed was kind, with good intent
But just a little different

Oh, special Ed
Mama dropped him on his head
Now he's not so bright instead
He's a little bit special
Just a little bit

We'd play tag, and he'd get hurt
I'd play soldier, he'd eat dirt
I liked math, and the spelling bee
Ed liked talking to a tree

Oh, special Ed
Mama dropped him on his head
Now she keeps him in the shed
Cause he's a little bit special
Just a little bit

I ran track, hung out in malls
Ed ran headfirst into walls
I had girls, and lots of clothes
Ed had names for all his toes

Oh, special Ed
Mama dropped him on his head
Now he thinks he's a piece of bread
Cause he's a little bit special
Just a little bit

One day while talking to special Ed
He grabbed a brick and he swung at my head
And as he laughed at me thats when I knew
That special Ed just made me special too
Now I laugh as I count bugs
I give strangers great big hugs
Next to me Ed is fine
Yeah he's a f---ing Einstein

Oh, Special Ed (and me)
Now we're not right in the head (you see)
Now we're not so bright instead
We're a little bit special
Just a little bit special
That f***er Ed made me special
Just a little bit
Just a little bit ... special
