I mean I obviously don’t know her but often people (particularly young people) will put a lot more “likes”, “you know”, “um” etc when talking in front of a group or a microphone.

Older people do it too when speaking in public, it’s a nervous tic.
I find those pause words slip out in direct proportion to the level of preparation of the speaker.

Can’t believe we have this guy for years to come. And his bro is just joining the team.

As somebody who hated and was terrible in speech class, can confirm. I either used "um" a lot or stared holes in my notes while reading from them. Funny enough the only speech I can remember actually doing well on was when we had to choose a band from the "British invasion" era and analyze the lyrics for a song and I somehow convinced my teacher to let me do War Pigs from Black Sabbath.

buh buh buh buh baby, you aint seen nothin' yet ... randy bachman wrote the stutter into the song ....his brother garry did it in his natural speech as the story goes. "a speech impediment"..... where's carlin to remind us that it's not called that anymore and been sterilized into a more digestible term, right?

speaking of 'randy'

my brother and his high school classmates once wanted to do some lip-sync thing and were de-f***in-nied.

rolling stones start me up. the astute teacher was aware of the (improvised?) line during the outro of the song

you make a dead man 'comb'

When my younger brother sent me a text saying we signed Cal Foote to a 1 year deal my first thought was thinking Fitzgerald used an offersheet on him. I was a kittlensuprised Nahsville didn't bring him back. It's not a bad signing because it will help Utica and if he plays well its good depth on D because he won't really be needed too much outside of a limited 3rd pairing role. Hopefully his game keeps getting better , maybe him and Nolan will get into a good amount of games for us this year while making a positive impact.

Well I know how to do that. That Sabres fan in the Hellebuyck thread said we needed to move Nico to create some cap and recoup the assets moved for Timo. Shedding that 7.25+Holtz 894k means we can pay him over 8 with no net impact on the cap
If you need to sign your top league scorer, ou are moving away your even good third line center.

Holtz should play a Brett Hull-type role -- which is let his other two wingers do most of the grunt work, with his job basically to find open seams to get off his rocket of a shot.

Holtz has something of a Zacha effect going on in my view. The team is insisting he do so much away from the puck and emphasizing defense to the point I think he’s lost a bit of what made him special. In my view the team needs to just let him play and give him some extended run despite the inevitable mistakes.
Absolutely agree, and with his passing skills I think its good to use him with Palat and Haula who can retrieve the puck and open space.

I think Devils should not deal him if he isn't ready yet, he has two years on his elc deal and its not like we already signed Toffoli for more years. He has real potential to score more than 30+ goals(or even more) and we don't have prospects with this level of ceiling. His 200 foot game is far away from perfect for now, but its a price team pay for big scorers mostly. Reason why Matthews is very special.

Now we can to not rush Nemec if we need to. As I remember Hamilton said he needed surgery, so if he isn't ready, Marino Miller Foote is pretty okay right side defensive pool to play limited games. If someone will hurts and Nemec will show he isn't ready yet after few games than we have no problem. Depth in playoffs will not hurt too.

BTW Utica defense looks awesome when everybody are healthy in Devils squad.
Hattaka - Foote
Misyul - Nemec
Vilen - Russo
Vukojevich- Wotherspoon

May be Cal is 7/8 defenseman for Devils. Someone will face waivers, because if Holtz is in the roster, Noesek, Lazar, N Foote, Clarke, C Foote, Smith will challenge for 12F and 3 bench spots.

On a personal level I think want him to succeed more than any of our prospects (outside of maybe Casey) just because of how raw of a deal he got last year. It could really f*** with a kids development so I really hope he succeeds rather than ends up failing and you wonder how much of last year hurt him.

I want Holtz to succeed mainly because of all the insults thrown his way by certain Sharks fans in the Meier trade threads. Would love to rehash some of those conversations if Holtz goes off.

As long as he gets a real shot at being a regular NHLer with good linemates it's hard for me to see him not at minimum being a productive 3rd liner this season. I think the shooting and passing talent is too good not to work and his AHL production was so high end it's hard not to see it translate. Will the all around game be there right away? Probably not but I really couldn't give less of a shit. Almost the entirety of the rest of the roster is good enough all around. As long as the offensively gifted 21/22 year old breaking into the league is flashing his offense, creating chances, and producing I don't give a shit about the all around game off the bat. Maybe it'll later and maybe it won't. Even if it eventually doesn't come I'm fine if he just ends up as a high end finisher who can put up 30+ goals a year who is weak defensively as the rest of the team should be able to cover for that

This would make me sad, but understandable. For his sake, I hope he gets a solid deal no matter where he goes. Tuna is a solid dude.

It makes much sense for them with Guentzel hurt, but how much of a discount is he willing to take. I mean they don't have much cap space, can a deal be made mainly on bonuses here with him?

Pittsburgh seems to make sense, as they're going all-in and could certainly use more secondary scoring.

But...how do they fit him on the roster? They're already over the cap (by $79K according to CapFriendly) with a 22 man roster. Guentzel is only supposed to miss 5 games, so he's not eligible for LTIR. I know Dubas has mentioned putting guys on waivers, but who are the obvious candidates to clear room for Tatar? I'm sure he's going to be making less than the $4.5M with the Devils, but still would think it's at least in the $2-$3M range, unless he and his agent really played themselves. $3M+ wouldn't surprise me either.

A forward would surely have to be on the move as their top 4 D of Karlsson, Letang, Graves & Pettersson aren't going anywhere and nobody else makes more than $825K on the blueline. Looking at their roster, it looks like Jeff Carter and his $3.125M cap hit ($3.0M salary) is the only logical one to move and after his 29 points and a +/- of -16 (team worst by 3 goals) in 79 games last season. Carter is already 38 going on 39 on January 1st, so his contract would seem to have negative value.

Penguins have already given up their 2024 1st round pick in the Karlsson trade (top 10 protected), as well as their 2024 3rd round pick (Kulikov trade) and their 2024 5th round pick (Bonino trade - BTW, they got 9 games, 1 assist & a blown wild card spot out of the trades for Kulikov & Bonino) - leaving them with 2nd, 4th, 6th and two 7th round picks for the 2024 draft.

So, how the hell do they fit Tatar on the roster?

Interested to see Cal Foote played very little PK with TB.

Did play a decent amount with Nash this past season, 1:39 per game, to really good results, though he was likely not out there often vs opposing top PP units much.

If Penguins are going to be buying low on Tatar (the only way they could fit him in), I would hope the Devils circle back on a cheap deal.

If McLeod starts the year suspended, there is an extra roster spot if Tierney gets sent down to Utica.

The only caveat to this is the Penguins May be able to offer him a top six spot with Guentzel’s injury whereas the Devils probably don’t promise anything more than third line minutes.

So - what is the skinny on Cal and Nolan Foote? Obviously, Adam Foote was a good player, and both of his kids went in the first rounds in their draft years. Why are they struggling to find a spot?

I don't think Nolan is struggling to find a spot as much as they've brought him along slowly. He seems like he is going to be getting his crack at the lineup this year for certain given his waiver status and the way Fitz has talked about him this offseason.

Cal has seemed to stagnate in terms of development from what I can tell, I know @Guttersniped detailed quite a bit in a prior post in this thread.
