Lots of great line combinations available for the top 9 next year, assuming Holtz is part of that group.
Hischier / Hughes / Palat / Meier / Bratt / Toffoli / Haula / Mercer / Holtz

We have a ton of options. I lean towards the 2nd combo being the one to start with. Toffoli being a player that can get to the front of the net and score should be a good combo with Jack and Bratt. Though I can see him doing well with Nico as well.

Mercer with Nico makes sense given the success that line with Tatar had. Hopefully Meier is able to get going with a full training camp.

If Holtz can be a scorer, that would be a huge bonus. Perhaps he can play with Jack and you bring someone like Mercer down on the 3rd line and have 3 great lines.

Getting some love from the plebs.

These are interesting. I'm surprised the Detroit ''Ahhhhhhh, they're gonna be such a GOOD team soon! They're getting there! What a team they're building!'' Red Wings are only around 15th and not higher. I think the mystique is clearing up.

LOL @ Arizona (or should we say maybe Houston by then? Or will it be Salt Lake City? lol) still being second in the bottom 5. Probably because everybody knows that joke operation never improves.

I know the contract is brutal, but ignoring that what are everyone’s thoughts on Gibson. Wonder if he’s bought out or if retention is involved if he’s a possibility, even as a tandem option with VV.

Definitely seems like he’s been hung out to dry in Anaheim. Also seems like he gives up a bit after his teams season appears over by how his numbers have taken nosedives halfway through the year.

Might be a better question for @Bleedred

I'd go with this. The Habs had a dream run few years back and while Toffoli has some amazing results, with more experienced players, his play Caufield & Suzuki does not good on paper.

I think Palat - Hischier - Toffoli would be my best bet, or Hughes - Haula - Toffoli.

He'd be fine for someone to take a chance on if he were either bought out or if his contract had A LOT of retention. The problem is when people dare think he's worth actual assets back and good players from the team that wishes to trade for him, combined with little to no retention at all on his deal.

I don't think he took a nosedive this past year, but the year before that was almost like a 17-18 Cory Schneider season for him, only I believe he played way more games and didn't get shut down with injury for a significant stretch.

I remember him being like a .922% or .925% something 32 games into that season and people were actually taking the Ducks seriously and trying to sell hype with them. He took a huge nosedive in his last 15 or 20 games played and finished barely above .900%. It reminded me of when Schneider was a .920% for much of 17-18, before really tumbling down an elevator shaft starting just before new years of 2018 and having a massive drop in play through the remainder of the regular season, which included him being out injured for about 5-6 weeks in there somewhere.

Here's the thing. Even if I'm to believe Gibson looks worse because it's Anaheim/Eakins, the other goalies there more often than not don't play any worse than he does and sometimes they play even better. Granted, they're doing it in very limited number of games played relative to how many games he plays, so I'm not saying if they played 50 games they would outperform him, because they're not really particularly great goalies either.

If he were to be bought out, do you think he’d make sense as a potential 1B for Vanecek? Allows the Devils to not rush Schmid too

I guess it depends how much? It would be a gamble, which you can argue Schmid would be too, but Schmid will also be much cheaper than even a bought out Gibson, if I had to guess.

He'd definitely be an upgrade over Blackwood, unless this is the year where he drops even more than he has been over the last 4 years.

And he wouldn't be the worst goalie in the division *Cough* Jonathan Quick *Cough*, but we also don't have an Igor Shesterkin here either.

I'm honestly comfortable with Vanecek/Schmid, especially since I'm pretty sure Gibson would probably still get $2.5 million or maybe even more on a post-buyout contract.

I understand the intrigue behind Gibson, but the fact is he has posted a below average save percentage for four years straight. He has four years remaining at a $6.4 million cap hit.

If he’s not bought out, you have to be damn sure that his output the last four years is strictly on the team in front of him being dogshit. Even with that in mind, I think it’s incredibly risky to bet on that turnaround at that cap hit. I would only consider it if he were bought out.

Jack Hughes being at DJais in Belmar is worrying, dont need a Zion Williamson situation on our hands lol

That place is f***ing dirty too, hopefully he realizes it first time around and never goes back

As concerning as his numbers is the demand out of a contract he signed. I do not like that look. I get he wants to win, but he also signed that contract and, imo, has some level of obligation to honor it. You can talk to your gm about a trade, but to demand it in public says something about a player. Something I don't like.

How are people feeling if this is the roster we go into the season with (assume Holtz and Foote take up spots 12 and 13 in the forward grourp)
If this is the roster we start the season with, I’m plenty happy.

I wouldnt say no to another depth addition, or inquiring about an elite goalie, but neither are necessary.

Speaking of which, I've always wondered how many trades were forced by the player, but was never made public that he was the reason. I have to believe only a small fraction of trade requests ever become public. I wonder how many head scratching trades are because the player wanted out.

lmao no the f*** it is not worrying. He's a 22 year old single rich kid.

big leap from "drinking in belmar" to "getting your baby mama knocked up while your pornstar girlfriend tells twitter you spit in her mouth"

Meh, if teams can trade players, I don’t see why players can’t ask for trades.

I think it’s Mike McKenna on NHL Radio that talks about how Gibson is also a mess technically at this point.
Lundqvist on the TNT broadcast this year talked about how he’s very poor moving east to west and that’s why he struggles and has been on this decline.

The thing I noticed this past year particularly is that Anaheim gives up a whole lot of shots, many times over 40 and even 50 sometimes. They play so badly that conceding 4-5 goals is certainly understandable, but a lot of those times it would turn into 6 or 7 goals and look like a baseball score.

So Gibson would wind up making it an out of control blowout and terribly lopsided.
