I wouldn't know.

I was busy scrolling for almost a full minute down the page trying to get to the next post due to the GIGANTIC images he always puts up. o_O

How people can read that and not get blinded is a mystery.

(but yeah who can forget Jordan TooToo or Ruutu for the TooToo or is it TooToo for the Ruutu?)

Jack could clean his game up. And his takeaways have always exceeded giveaways.

Are you saying that Damon Severson is as creative and offensively potent as Jack Hughes?

Let's please keep our heads and spot the difference between a shithead defender with crap instincts and a generational puck hawking talent.
Jack has had more giveaways than takeaways every season of his career. My point was it's a stat that doesn't really mean much. Something I would think you, with your holy war against flawed stats, would understand.

Takeaways and giveaways are both nonsense stats that are kept incredibly selectively and so have absolutely no value. NHL scorers just don't have the ability to track this stuff with everything else they're doing, so they just spit out noise. It's so funny to see you cite these stats when you take issue with literally every other stat there is.

Look, I think a lot of this Severson conversation boils down to just this isolated event. Like it or not, if the coach had just moments ago made a point of playing things smartly and you go out on seemingly your next shift and make an ill advised pass, you’re going to attempt to send a message.

Maybe this is the extent of that message, maybe he sits tonight too, we’ll see. I certainly don’t anticipate it being longer than that but I guess we’ll see how the team plays and responds.

That's the problem with Severson as a whole. 95% of the time he's a more than capable defenseman who is good with the puck, plays decent enough D, etc. But that 5% man that 5% sometimes look horrific.

Well, that's unexpected. Kind of makes me question the metric a little, although I usually trust analytics arguments.

Maybe Smith-Severson are thriving because they usually play against lesser competition, but Smith in particular has looked terrible in many of the games.

Severson isn't as bad as his latest gaffe, but he's good for a few dumb plays a week too. Weird to see that they're that effective somehow.

All stats 'mean' something.

There are people in this board who've pointed to Corsi as a measure of how good Severson is.

I know people like to selectively discount +/- and other stats bc they aren't new and cool, but counting things is counting things and as I've said before it's all in the interpretation.

Just bc you don't want to lend any weight to turnovers doesn't mean they 'dont mean much'.

Jack's turnovers at the blueline killed the team at times last year. There's a hell of a gap between 19 year old playmaking center with the puck =always= on his stick and a defenseman. Especially one who really isn't much of a puck lugger for someone labled a PMD.

Turnovers matter, Severson has too many bad ones, but it’s still true that the actual “giveaways” stat is not a good one. They’re just tracked really poorly, and it’s obviously true that a guy that doesn’t just chip the puck off the glass at every opportunity is going to have more of them (that play also just gives the other team possession too).

You would think that someone who is a 6-year-Vet would be playing a bit more mistake-free hockey instead of what we've seen from Damon (ie Same old types of soul-crushing, game-losing ones).

Never expected him to be perfect but expected him to be a bit more steady and cautious (and making the correct play more often than not) by now.

Don’t mind the benching, need to set an example that this team is in a different spot than years past and stuff like that won’t be tolerated

Guys like holtz have been benched for far less
