From Jersey w/ Love
Winning Streak was great. Great for the fans, great for the team, great for the franchise. It really showed what this team is capable of doing. It instilled confidence. Energized the arena and gave the fans a shock we desperately needed.

All of that does not unnoticed by other teams. They'll figure out ways to play us differently.

So what we're seeing now is what i expect the rest of the season to be like. Some ugly wins. Wins we shouldn't have won... losing games on bad luck. Injuries to players and having AHL callups (was a pretty healthy team to start this year). And also games where we show how dominant we can be. Getting Palat back. Having wildcard Blackwood back. Maybe Hughes goes on a scoring tear. Our powerplay could start clicking lights out. Not everything currently good will remain that way - and not everything bad will remain that way.

This is what a normal NHL season looks like - it has warts. As long as we stay above .500 going forward, we should be good.

Good thing is - going into any single game going forward in this season - we know we have a chance to win. Nothing feels like an automatic loss anymore.

Can we talk about how Chico Resch is the nicest guy in hockey? I chatted with him last night for a solid 5-10 mins about the Devils success, Devils fans and fan behavior. He really is one of the warmest nicest people on earth. I’ve met and spoken with him several times but every time it just reinforces what a total class act the man is.
The only man in the world where it is ok to return to the team after receiving a BOAT for retirement.

I used to talk to him all the time. I've even sat and ate with him several times (when we were both in the same place at the same time, we didn't make plans to meet up or anything, we weren't that tight lol) before games. We were on a first name basis, though we didn't have each other's phone numbers or anything like that.

I haven't seen him since 2011-2012. I moved in 2010-2011, but still had enough cash leftover to make it up to Jersey and attend a few games in 11-12 around holidays (saw a bunch of games around Thanksgiving and then again around Christmas/New Years of 2011/2012) and that's the last I ever saw of him.

I've only been to two Devils home games since then and they were the jersey retirement games.

I've yet to run him into at any of the Florida games since. Maybe if I got there right when the doors either open or possibly before that, maybe I'd run into him. I plan to be at the arena in Sunrise between 2:00 and 3:00 PM for the game on the 21st. Last time I went to the game there I made the dumb decision to leave way too late, hit nonstop traffic and it was raining which made traffic worse. I didn't get to my seat until there were only a few minutes left in the 1st intermission. I gotta leave work by 10:00 AM that day.

I've lost a lot of weight and gained 11 years since I last saw Chico. With how many people he interacts with every year, I doubt he'd even remember me and I certainly wouldn't blame him.

I want to second this .
I was in Calgary at the Flames /Devils game me he came up and talked to us for about 10 minutes During warmups . He noticed us in Devils gear and took the time to come up and talk to us. Said it’s always nice to see Devils fans. He is a very down to earth guy. Awesome guy , class act all around.

Your entire post was spot-on. Teams will adjust their gameplan for us. First few games teams probably just see what they are good at and what they need to work on , then make adjustments.
It feels like the past 3 or 4 games , those teams are doing whatever they can to make it hard for us to play our game / utilize our strengths. Hopefully we can still overcome that and make some adjustments and still be as dominant as we were durging our epic winning streak.

It is insane how , for me , it went from “ Please dont lose by that much , play hard and I hope the kids improve “ - (essentially expecting to lose and I did t care much about the score.) to -
I expect to win every game now and get worked up if we don’t dominate lol.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned but the emergence of Zetterlund is huge for this teams forward group.

He really gives us an additional Palat-like forward who can play with skill players, add some physicality, and has a finishing touch.

I’m sure we will see it eventually, but I’m really curious what he would look like with Hughes or Bratt.

I once started a conversation with Chico at a Kay Jewelry in the Garden State Plaza. We talked Devils for a little bit he gave me his opinion on the stuff I was looking at for my then girlfriend now wife. So easy to talk to and such a super nice guy. Normally I leave guys like him alone but I heard how great and nice he was so I approached him.

Over Thanksgiving my dad got something wrong about Boston’s win-loss record.

When I corrected him I told him I didn’t need to check, I look at standing all the f***ing time lol.
Lol, oddly enough after I made that post I realized I had too many tabs open, like 5 or so and went to start closing out and had the NHL standings up, don't even remember why or when I opened them, well I can guess why, but still, no memory of opening it, just there. It runs deep.
