Absolutely, but I think you can replace his role with Lindgren who is much younger and hope it works. Other option is Colton, but he may find a place on the 3rd line wing next to Coyle. Will be tough offseason again unless Gabe hangs em up.

Lindgren is a lefty and isn't replacing Manson.

No one in the org can replace Manson and top 4 RD are very rare and very expensive on the market (which is why Manson would have good value).

If we trade Manson we create a big hole.

Cmac was also listing our good players and he to my surprise mentioned Manson. Maybe just randomly top of his head but he was surprisingly high on the list when talking about key players or good players of the team.

I'm too lazy to do the math but we should be able to keep Nelson with the space created by the cap going up and replacing Mikko with Necas no? Only Drouin and LOC are due for a small raise, maybe Lindgren too. That isn't much.

Yeah it should be pretty close, I wouldn't expect a huge increase for Lindgren, probably just term. It's only one game but Nelson and that line looks amazing, extend him now and justify it later.

Let's wait and see. Rangers fans were saying Lindgren is cooked physically. He always played bigger than he was and it took a toll on him.

I dont know if I'd move Colton unless they absolutely have to. Just look at how much better he is on the wing. Would 100% move Wood though


For next year right now we're at:


Lehky(4.5) - Mack(12.6) - Necas(6.5)
Drouin(????) - Nelson(????) - Nuke(6.125)
Colton(4.0) - Coyle(5.25) - LOC(2.5)
Kelly(0.8) - Drury(1.8) - Kivi(????)
Wood(2.5)


Toews(7.25) - Makar(9.0)
Girard(5.0) - Manson(4.5)
Lindgren(????) - Malinski(????)

Blackwood(5.25)
Wedgewood(1.5)


That group, fwiw would be $79.075M. So they'd have $16.425M in cap space and 5 guys left to sign. Kivi and Malinski combined get ~$2.5M. Leaves them with roughly $14M for the rest of the roster.


If they can move Wood out and just replace his 13F roster spot with Ivan or Prish, that would give them an additional $1.7M to work with.

Nelson probably gets $6-7M, we'll say $7M. That would leave between $7-8.5M for Drouin and Lindgren depending on whether they can move Wood. I would imagine that should be enough to get both guys honestly, though I'm not sure I want to re-sign Lindgren yet anyway. Probably depends on how well he does for us(Admittedly good so far) and what his ask would be. For something around $2.5-3M I'd take him, but if he wants $4-5M I'd probably let him walk.


All that to say I think they should have reasonable cap space to keep this entire group together next year if they wanted to. The one wildcard in all of this is Landeskog. If he returns in the playoffs, looks good and doesn't have any issues and thus expected to return for us fully next year... Then you need to move out some cap for sure. Wood goes 100%, then that's probably where you might have to look at moving Colton.

It'll be very tight with Landy back to keep Nelson, Lindgren, and Drouin even if we jettison Colton and Wood.

If Drouin is offered a long term contract with the Avs, I'll bet he takes it and I'll bet it comes in at no higher than 3.75M per. He prioritizes mental health above all else it seems, and he is VERY happy in Colorado.

I think the Avs have a plan for a guy like Ivan to take Kiviranta's role next season because Kivi is going to get paid as a UFA - and he has earned that right after being a waiver claim.

Because of the Mikko deal, the Avs have a lot of room to work with for next season. Their roster honestly shouldn't look too different next season IF Landeskog is not coming back. Obviously if he is that changes everything and you likely have to move Colton and maybe someone else.

Yeah pretty much. I mean it can work in theory, Behrens and Middleton out for $1.681M then Kivi($1M) and Malinski in($1M) for $2M, $319k extra space and they'd have $225k left over pretty much...


But that would be at exactly an 18 man roster which we know is highly unlikely.


If Landy comes back I dont see any way they keep Lindgren though. Cant afford to have our #3LD making $3.5M at that stage. They can just play Middleton or some sub $1M guy in that spot for example to start the year and then look at adding a guy again at the deadline if they need to.

I think you always prioritize Nelson and Drouin over Landeskog. Most likely he'll just be on LTIR and we don't need to worry about it. In the unlikely case that he does play and we can't send out enough salary to fit him, we can trade him because he'll only have a 12-team no trade list starting this summer.

You're not seriously suggesting the Avs would or should trade Landeskog after he successfully makes his return.... right?

I don’t see Drouin signing for less than Colton.
