How can you do a hit piece on Nieds? Bringing back the he's so smooth he looked lazy trope and debating that?

re: Kane, how would the Devils even be able to afford him capwise lol...50% retained and send back Jonsson?

It’s regarding the Peter woroll slash to head. Which I totally forgot about and honestly watching the clip doesn’t even look that bad esp for now.

I asked ChatGPT to "write a song about the NJ Devils in the style of Bruce Springsteen"

Verse 1: In the Garden State, Where the meadows meet the shore, There's a team that brings us pride, And makes us roar.

Chorus: The Devils, the Devils, They're the team we love to see. Skating hard, and never backing down, They're the pride of New Jersey.

Verse 2: With the red and black on their chest, They take the ice with fire in their eyes. They play with heart, and never give up, Til the final buzzer sounds.

Chorus: The Devils, the Devils, They're the team we love to see. Skating hard, and never backing down, They're the pride of New Jersey.

Bridge: We'll be there in the stands, Cheering them on to victory. We are the faithful, And the Devils are our team.

Chorus: The Devils, the Devils, They're the team we love to see. Skating hard, and never backing down, They're the pride of New Jersey.

ChatGPT obviously didn't watch our game against Dallas. :sarcasm:

Amusing concept for a prompt though, nicely done.

Dear god...I forgot about it too, yeah okay ding him for cheap-shotting a cheap shotter, makes perfect sense. Was probably the only suspension in his entire career too.
I always thought about how awkward that must have been for Rob, who was Worrell's teammate at the time lol.

All in for Pat Kane. Sure, there may be some guys that are a little better fit for this roster, but I'm absolutely on board with getting one of the best US players in history and pairing him with Jack Hughes. It would be absolutely electric to watch the two of them.

No idea how it would fit under the cap though, you need might need a third team involved to broker additional cap being retained. We can ship Johnsson out as well.

Regarding the Patrick Kane/hawksstuff, the guy who covers us for the 4th period ( I know I know ) has us in on Domi. Would be a nice upgrade over boqvist on the 3rd line an wouldn’t break the bank…. Just a thought

Maybe I'm missing something, but how are we even fitting Kane's contract at 50% retained unless we're shipping multiple contracts out?

Johnsson has to go and you probably need a 3rd team to broker the deal and retain. The other elephant in the room is Severson, who is obviously on an expiring contract. If you ship Severson out for assets instead of letting him walk for free in the offseason, that resolves the cap issue without needing to get a 3rd team involved.

My assumption has been Johnsson is waived again or a cap dump in any trade, but easier to do without giving up more assets for a slightly cheaper player than Kane.

I know some here disagree with me, but I'm not convinced the team is better +Kane and -Severson unless L. Hughes is about to pull a Makar style introduction to the NHL.

Agreed, it's not necessarily that they would move Severson out just to make room for Kane, but more that if they decide to move Severson for assets (as its own calculus), then the room is there for Kane.

It's very likely that Severson isn't coming back and there are teams that would give up considerable assets for him. It's possible the Devils think the assets are worth it over keeping him around in a limited 3rd pairing role for one playoff run.

Regardless of who, what or how, I’m heavily leaning towards trusting Fitz entirely with his moves, to be completely honest.

I have no reason to doubt him. What he’s done with this team since taking charge in the summer of 2020 is nothing short of great.

Good point on the distinction. But I still don't like the math on going for it with a pure rental while also weakening what has been our biggest advantage, which is the D depth.

We could probably replace his role right now internally, but if an injury happened to Hamilton or Marino we really don't have another right-side option that can play top 4 minutes in the playoffs.

Speaking of Fitz, does anyone know his contract situation with the team? Is he signed long-term? I know there were rumblings of an extension in 2021, but has that been finalized? I think I missed some parts lol.

I’m not sure how long it goes for, but I’m assuming it’s gotta be for another year after this at least, if not even longer.

I think he was extended in 2021, after getting what I thought I remember as a 4 year deal in 2020, which was not specific to the GM position. The 2021 extension may have just added GM specifically to the remainder of that term.

Remember it wasn’t GM specific at first, which caused some confusion.

Maybe NJ can move Bernier's LTIR as part of a trade since most of the remaining salary is potentially picked up by insurance. Similarly, Johnsson has little actual salary remaining by the TDL. Nonetheless, teams will likely want additional sweeteners to take back any cap hit which may scuttle any deal. I'll never say never, but this is just the beginning of NJ's ascent up the league standings and I'm skeptical the team is a real cup contender this season. I'd be fine with whatever TDL acquisition they would make and even give up the first round pick if it is going to be below 20 but I'm not going for broke this season and giving up a bunch of stuff to move Bernier and Johnsson just to add Tarasenko. If it can be done reasonably then sure. I'd also rather add a true 3C for a playoff run to take some of the load off Hischier to free him up for some more favorable matchups than always having to do the heavy lifting because it's not realistic to ask Jack and Boquist to do any of that.

Going back to an earlier discussion :

So we're in on Kane and Domi...

Two players that are disliked for various reasons.

Why aren't we reported to be in on guys like Timo Meier or Tarasenko?

At least those two don't piss some of us off.
