These guys want to fight, go in the ring and try to be Muhammad Ali or Jack Dempsey. I saw enough of this garbage in the 1970s, etc. People are wondering “why did the referees throw the players who fought out of the game?” Hello CTE !. Ever hear of it?Yeah, Bettman weasels around it by saying it isn’t proven but we know it is; he and the owners don’t want to pay(and the NHLPA is quiet on protecting players long term health too). The game is exciting and tough enough that you don’t need this nonsense.

lmfao again, stop it.

The Rangers put him out there because they knew they had to, because this is still hockey. This wasn't some unfair jumping, this was a mutual understanding. Stop.

Rempe deserved to answer the bell for a f***ing bad hit on Siegenthaler and then waving bye-bye to the rest of the team like getting ejected meant he was above it all. Somebody was going to f*** his day up, they mutually agreed to have it happen early. If you're an NHL fan and you recognize what fights are for you understand this.

you don't get to be the victim for a single second when the goober on your team is the one who caused this all to happen. Stop.
The other devils on the ice were the real victims, they thought they were going to get a show to heal their psyches and instead ended up getting savaged by the rest of the Rangers on the ice. That's what teams that stick up for each other do - well done Rangers.

it’s a joke they gave them all game misconducts. 5 min majors and move on. Coward refs
They knew they were going to get tossed. Cowards?? They followed the rule book.

This was fun. Rempe got pummeled and will be out of the nhl soon (either due to lack of talent or brain damage)

Would have been even more fun if the devils didn't suck ass.

* and the suspensions are ridiculous

Ridiculous. NHL refs come up with some cowardly rules technicality to endanger the health of the players on the ice before the game even starts.

Devils coach should also get a heavy suspension for instigating this. If players get penalized for starting fights, coaches should be suspended for telling their team to start line brawls.

Green didn't tell his team to start a line brawl. In fact, seems to be the opposite that happened. If Green was going for a line brawl, he would've at least put Smith in over Marino.

Again, this all doesn't go down if Rempe had answered the bell in the first place the previous game. Or maybe not concussed a player with an elbow to the jaw and acted like a complete douchebag as he was being tossed from the game.

Which is a JOKE.

Get used to it, unfortunately. Plus the game was national on TNT so I’m sure Bettman will give the players and coaches a talking to.
Which is stupid in it's own right. What did the fans do, run for the exits offended or stand and cheer, hoot and holler, pumping the atmosphere to playoff levels? I think Bettman is the one who needs talking to

John Marino, you went to Harvard. Why are you fighting a guy 4 inches taller and 30 lbs heavier?
What does education have to do with the want/need to practice hand to hand combat with your peers and the spirit of competition? Normal human behavior , nothing wrong with a friendly bout and test of strength

I don't think the league and the refs like staged fights. They probably heard the chatter before the puck drop and warned everyone that they would get kicked out if they started anything.
No, it's a somewhat new rule to prevent a line brawl after line brawl, after line brawl.

Any secondary fights on the same stoppage you get booted. If your fight happens at the same time, like pretty much the same time no one gets kicked out, unless the officials want to be jerks.

TSN 1200 doesn't like it. Thinks it's a "bad look"

Once again this is great. Everyone is talking about it. Someone sent a text into the team 1200 and said some American radio show that rarely talks about hockey started with it.

Dreger on team 1200 is talking about potential fines. What the f*** for ? Any fines come out of this, from what I saw is an absolute JOKE.

I'm sure everyone here has played sports, Any sport. Hell, even video games. If you're mad and dislike the other team, or opponent you're going to play even harder and try even more.

You can make a regular season game feel like a cup final game when you really hate your opponent and want to win.

I thought that the fights were simultaneous and that the ejections were unnecessary. These fights did not meet the spirit of the second altercation rule, even if they technically started a few seconds after the initial one.

It's weird to read the negative comments about the Devils after this. They stepped up and fought a bigger and tougher team. That's courageous. But I guess some posters are kinda working through their own stuff and projecting it onto the teams.

They all happened at the same time, so yes, cowards.

They did not at all happen at the same time.

Lazar and Vesey are already at it before anyone else has their gloves off.

Goodrow chucks his gloves immediately and makes a beeline to Bahl and obviously MacDermid and Rempe are the main bout so they're squaring up, but 7 seconds after the initial fight breaks out Tierney and Marino are still skating around by each other with their gloves on.

It's a pretty straight forward rule and the refs called it the correct way. The league is probably thankful that the Lazar/Vesey fight broke out before MacDermid/Rempe and that those were the two players that got to stay in the game, as it would've been even uglier the rest of the way.

Certainly benefitted the Rangers as the end as NJ lost two of its top PK defensemen in Marino & Bahl and were the team playing the 2nd half of a back-to-back. Once Smith took his patented boneheaded penalty late in a game, the Devils were down to 3 defensemen to kill it off - Siegenthaler, Nemec (rarely plays PK) and Hughes (never plays PK) with all 3 probably rather gassed at that point.

Nice to see the devils show some frustration over a terrible season. This is not their style but they spent all year getting beat up, it had to boil over at some point. Rangers also got their revenge for going limp in the playoffs last year. Devils will be back for some more next season.
