Not much we can do about that as fans, but you can't question our loyalty to the team. We show up in good years and in bad. NJ's rink has been a ghost town since they started missing the playoffs. I respect teams like NYI who filled their barn last year even in a bad season. I've loved watching NJ this year, I'll still watch them, but that fanbase is toxic as hell. Bunch of grown men screaming f*** you, faces bright red, throwing beer at players who had nothing to do with the call.

Just a terrible look, and even worse that fans in here are defending it.

Are you really trying to pat yourself on your back because your franchise that is located in the largest city in Canada will still draw crowds even when they put a dogshit team on the ice? Whereas the Devils have two other teams in their market and a 3rd just 90 minutes away. Maybe if some fans there didn't show up when your team is crap, there might be some more incentive to actually put a winning team on the ice.

Anyway, congrats on winning the attendance award. Devils fans will have to suffer through these types of insults and massively cheaper tickets. I don't condone anything being thrown on the ice, but I'm guessing The Rock was probably louder last night than a Maple Leaf home playoff game.

Hockey fans: „Our players are tough, unlike those diving soccer players acting injured.“
Hockey fans when a couple plastic cups get tossed onto the ice: „This is outrageous, won’t somebody think of the injury risk!“

Calm down.

"Plastic cups" They were full beer cans lmfao, regardless the fact that you guys can't even acknowledge how stupid and reckless that was by your fans is telling enough

I'm sure you'd be delighted if opposing teams fans were throwing garbage and full beer cans at your players during the game and AFTER the game, absolutely classless fans in the arena last night.

I don’t condone throwing stuff on the ice but at the same time I don’t feel like I have much room to scold anyone because I got kicked out of a WCW Nitro event in 1998 for throwing trash at the NWO. Wolfpack 4life.
I would think that would've been encouraged at the time. Miss the old days of wrasslin, it's so watered down now.

You say that like it's a negative. There is a 20 year waiting list and rarely an empty seat in the house lol

Anyways, was an exciting game. Devils players were diving for calls all night, but our AHL defence and backup goalie held the line. Hopefully we meet in the ECF, would be a great series.

Just might have to have a couple of these on standby in NJ for when the fans get sad:

You have to win a series to make the ECF

It is a negative to the average fan as it jacks up the price of tickets. At the end of the day, the Devils still spend up to the cap and their middle of the pack in terms of team value, so it's not like the attendance has affected the on-ice product at all. I'll gladly take that over fanbase bragging rights.

Many Devils fans are also Yankee and Giants fans as well, so they can play the "we have a massive fanbase" card in those sports if they want. At least with baseball, there's a benefit to the team.

Not a devils fan, my dude. Socialized in European soccer stadiums, though, and a bit amused about the at times performative celebration of tough culture in hockey stops when these guys that get hit by pucks and bodies all game might get touched by half-empty cans of 12$ beer.

After watching all 3, I think only the 1st goal should have been allowed. I don't think the slight click of skates impacted Murray's ability to extend, since Bastian was able to slide out of the crease before the shot.

The 2nd goal to me is the right call and the 3rd goal, while I disagree with the rule, is the right call.

With that said, there is no excuse to throw beers onto the ice.

You have it backwards. Casual fans don’t care about a game enough for it them to get emotionally carried away. If a home crowd doesn’t get tangibly angry after three disallowed goals, you’re not playing in front of a fanbase, but in front of some causals with corporate tickets. Knowing the rules should lead to being able to recognize the correctness of calls afterwards, that’s all.
Any knucklehead that shows up to a game has the potential to get drunk and indignant even if they don't really follow the team that much.

this just struck me.... how rich the jersey fans must be.

in the period of inflation and high cost of living; not only werre jersey fans able to attend the game spending money on tickets, but were also buying expensive booze and then throwing it on ice.

I guess devils fans are immune to inflation huh

Haula said he got hit by stuff and it wasn't a big deal, he was just concerned for the staff without equipment. Marner is being absurdly dramatic when he's out there in full equipment. He can get hit by a puck on the ice but not a can of beer?

I'd rather get hit by something I see coming or anticipate instead of being blindsided

has a full beer can being chugged at you ever? that shit hurts

Marner - 'They're throwing it to try to hit us.'

I'm sure he's referring to the Leafs trainers, coaches etc. as well as the players. Why can Haula be concerned but not Marner? lol.

This whole thing is dumb. You have Devils fans celebrating it and saying it's fun when the refs, coaches, trainers, arena staff, fans etc. could have been hit with a full beer and actually got hurt. It's not strictly about the players. You're pissing in the wind if you think that Devils fans wouldn't be saying the same stuff if another fanbase was throwing shit at their players and coaches.
