Well win tomorrow then its only 4 games. Granted we haven't won 4 in a row all year, but its still a very doable number. Isles game actually makes me sweat a bit more, and they would love to come and ruin our season.

Of course the Boston game would be the toughest, but by then if that game is relevant we will be riding on a lot of momentum, at home, and the Bruins would have nothing to play for since I don't think they care who they play in the 1st round (why should they?)

Have to survive tomorrow, do that and I think there will be enough momentum to rally around and push them through the final week...maybe.

I just can't see them stubbing there toe AGAIN against the Isles, especially since that is a home game. If it were at the Coliseum again then yea, I would gnawing off finger nails thinking about that.

The Calgary game has disaster written all over it. They have one of the best records in the league over the last month. I can totally see us winning the next couple and then dropping that game. It would be fitting.

Very true as they would stand between us and the dreaded 3 game winning streak if we win tomorrow. If they win these next two I can seem them getting off the hope and finally streaking.

The Calgary game worries me. That's a team that works its ass off and they've been scoring a lot of goals lately. But we have to beat the Canes first, or it won't matter what they do Monday.

I really hate the hope I feel right now.

This team does like to mess with our emotions.

I'm at the point where if they make the playoffs, great. It would be an incredible story. But if they don't, I've accepted it. It'll be disappointing to miss the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years, but it was bound to happen to us eventually.

Another factor that has to help us is the fact that Phoenix and Dallas are fighting for the last playoff spot in the West. Those 2 games will not be gimmies for Blue Jackets.

What worries me as a Devils fan is the games at Carolina and at Ottawa. We may have to win both games 1-0.

Here's my thoughts on what we need to do and my guess on what will happen.

Devils - 82 points - 5 gms left - Car, Cgy, Ott, NYI, Bos
Jackets - 85 points - 5 gms left - NYI, Phx, Dal, TBL, Fla
Leafs - 84 points - 4 gms left - Wpg, TBL, Fla, Ott
Caps - 81 points - 5 gms left - NYI, Stl, Car, Chi, TBL

Arguably the Caps have the toughest schedule left and may win 3 at most would be my guess. It's completely possible they win only 1. Prediction: 85 points

The Leafs are 1 game short on everyone and have the 2nd easiest schedule. However, they are the Leafs and injuries in net don't make them look as likely to string together too much. I'd say they may win 2 of 4 but we have a game in hand and own the tie breaker. Prediction: 88 points

Jackets have the 2nd toughest schedule though they've been playing hard. Phx, Dal, and TBL are the tough games for them and if they lose any 2 games during the stretch, it opens a big door. They also play 4 games in 5 nights so fatigue is bound to play a factor Prediction: 89 points

We have the, on paper, easiest schedule. However, injuries suck and that plays a role. The teams we are playing have also been relishing their spoiler role so we can't expect anything to come easy. After the heart we showed last night and the effort, we can win these games but we're going to have to play like that every night and Schneider is gonna have to Schneid the hell out of everything. He's looked good since getting out of his post-Olympic funk so let's hope ol' Pete will do the smart thing and keep him in net. Prediction: 90 points

Optimistic, certainly but if anything this team has shown they just won't die and it'll keep things interesting down the stretch. I still have a sneaky suspicion we drop one of the next few games and it will come down to the final game in Boston. Had the feeling for a while now. Oh well, let's enjoy the ride!

We have the, on paper, easiest schedule.

I don't know... the combined WIN% of our opponents over their respective last 10 games is .640, Jackets' opponents are .540.

Coupled with the fact that the last game of the season for each, we vs. the Boston juggernaut and Jackets against the Cats, looms *large* in their disparity... this season could end in heartbreak even *if* we can overcome the injuries to take a run at this thing.

It's been said for a long while now, but the shootout woes and the squandered leads are going to bite this team in the ass.

Shootouts...ugh. I will say this, I don't know exactly what but I honestly think the team is motivated more than ever because of that last shootout loss. The way Jagr had everyone on the bench turning around when they were shooting, the general look of relaxation on their faces, it was noticeable. Almost like they just collectively said "******* this, we'll just win anyway". They certainly looked like a team possessed last night. Tonight will tell a lot though as we've got a lot of hurdles to overcome. I still hold out hope that Boston dressed their F squad against us the last game of the season in the event it matters. A guy can dream.

Likeliest scenario for us to get in:

Columbus goes 2-2-1, leaves them at 90 points with 36 ROWs (assuming no shootout wins)

We go 4-1 to get to 90 points with 37 ROWs which gives us the tie-breaker over Columbus (obviously no shootout wins for us :sarcasm:)

In that scenario Toronto could go 3-1 and Washington could go 4-0-1 and we would still get in.

We can still do this. One game at a time. Believe

IF it comes down to the Boston game, Boston has to decide whether to play us 7 games or Columbus. How likely will they give us that last game?

I have hope, we're 4-1-3 in our last 8. Keep it up

We need to win at least 4 of 5. A .500 record is not inspiring confidence. On the other hand if we manage to win 4 or 5 now when it counts that would give me hope that the Devils could stand a chance against the Bruins in round 1.

Flyers fan coming in here to eat my share of crow. Said you guys would be battling for the basement back in August, and that it would take a total team commitment to sniff the playoffs. Well, in typical Devils fashion, your team has battled the whole way through, and I'm cheering for you guys to take that last wildcard spot (as long as it's not the Flyers who fall down).

It's still an uphill battle statistically for you guys, but you should be proud to make it this far. You guys have made the most with the least, and teams with more talent on paper (eg, Washington, Toronto, Ottawa) are all looking up at your team by no feat of luck. It should be a very encouraging thing to see what the Devils have accomplished this season and to project what they can accomplish when your young guys have some more experience under their belts. Good luck, I'd love to see Columbus tumble out of the playoffs in favor of you guys.

Thanks! We even got Flyers fans in our corner now! This has really been a strange ride.

They should just play the game how they would. Trying to " pick" your opponent never goes well.

Also BELIEVE BOYS!!! I know they have a game in hand but only one point and one team stands in out way!!!

I'm trying to stay reserved because our situation is still pretty dire, but these last two games almost make me feel like the season was worth it. All the frustrations and letdowns, well it's super rewarding watching the team play the way they did against the Caps and hurricanes. They really showed a ton of character over these last two nights.

I hope they find a way to sneak in even if it's only for a week, but if not, that's okay too. It will just be extra motivation for the franchise to make sure that next year is better.
