The Edmonton game was when I knew this season was going to be a total mess. I still go back to the Nashville and Colorado games before the break and the Florida backbreaker 2 weeks ago. Close those games out and were comfortably in a playoff spot.

Figure we lost to Pitt opening night - no big deal. It's Pitt. The Isles game was no big deal as well, a loss but not too bad.

After that Oils debacle the team came out and didn't win a game for nearly 2 weeks. Those games that stand out and you can look to and then look at the following games and see a losing streak are the backbreakers. I don't mind losing to Florida or Nashvill or Colorado because those didn't spark losing streaks or bad 7-10 game stretches. They were just losses. Unfortunate ones.

Backbreaking, devastating losses like we handed to Toronto in Kovy's first game here (which is very similar to that Edmonton game) and the National TV Stadium game - those change the course of seasons for me.

you cannot be serious. the guy is a clown.

To me he's one of the best, so much passion and enthusiasm for the game. He makes it like a hockey game. I hate when the Habs play teams where I have to listen to FOX Sports commentators, cuz they are the worse. To me FLA has the worse commentator in the league, and the Bruins have the biggest homer of a commentator.

Whatever, hope Jeanneret won't be happy tonight when the Devils dominate them!

The Edmonton Oilers loss at the beginning of the year was the worst loss of the season.

And I think if we win that game we're solidly in a playoff spot.

Our woes snowballed after that game.

The second worst game of the season was the Stadium game where we got embarrassed on national TV. The players were lethargic coming out of that game and just never picked up momentum.

Meanwhile, the reeling Rangers piled on wins and took off. That was a momentum changing game.

I firmly believe that if we score ONE MORE on Henrik - he's pulled. And his season goes down the toilet..

Henry himself said he thought he was going to be pulled after the first as it was...one more goal and he definitely would of been pulled.

Everyone came back from that game convinced it was "any other game." But the next 7 games we went 1-2-4. And we lost 4 games in gutless fashion in OT. It was appalling to watch that team play after the Stadium game.

Meanwhile the Rags go: 5-2-0 in their next 7.

The Devils went 7-4-2 in their next 13 after the WC game. That overhyped game didn't change momentum for us at all.

DAL (W, OT)
NASH (L, OT)
COL (L, OT)
EDM (W, OT)
WASH (L)
CBJ (W)
NYI (W)
SJS (L)
DET (W)
DET (L)
PHI (W)
FL, TB, BOS (3 L)

7-7-2

Thought we lost the DAL and EDM games but those were OT wins. 6-5-2 in their next 13 though. But immediately after, especially the way we lost the two OT games, we did not look good. And the Rags still took off.

Rags had won 6 of 9 heading into the Stadium Series game, they weren't in any kind of peril

Spin it any way you want, but this notion that the WC changed momentum for us is absurdly false. An immediate record of 7-4-2 after backs this up. The fact is that this team is ridiculously average hence why they're on the bubble needing help.

Agree with you on the Florida guys. They are god awful. Total bush league clowns. Goldie sounds like he's only been into hockey for a couple years, and Bill Lindsay is pretty dumb for a former player. Sometimes they'll start talking food or about the pizza they had earlier, when the game starts going downhill for the Panthers.

I'm convinced were going to miss by 2 or 3 points. Pick your poison on where we threw those points away:

1. The obvious one a couple shoot-out wins and we're ok.

2. The last minute collapses. 2 point games that became one point games and OT games that became 0 points.

3. Bad losses to bad teams. We've had 4-5 against teams that will end up bottom 5. (Edit: We are now 5-3-5 against the worst 5 teams in the league.)

Do a little better on any one of those categories and we would be in. :shakehead

We lost about 2% on our odds tonight.

Honestly this team doesn't deserve to STILL have a chance but a chance they still have because the Caps have seemingly given up. The leafs are a dumpster fire and the Jackets are mediocre themselves.

The only reason this might drag out is the Jackets go to Philly in the Steve Mason revenge special, then play the Blackhawks at home the next night. Maybe you get them to have two losses before they destroy the Isles and Phoenix at home the way actual decent teams can. But that'll just set us up for another spectacular failure. Honestly this is like watching the Mets at the end of '07/08 or the Jets during one of their patented December collapses losing to bad teams.

Be fair. The Leafs are the Mets. You need to be in a playoff spot to collapse.

Don't put that Yotes game in the auto win pile for the Jackets. Yotes are a playoff team clawing for points too.

Wings have a tough schedule too (though they are definitely the best team out of this sorry bunch)

Jackets odds are will still make it but in this backwards war of attrition. They screwed up less then us (and can win in the shootout)

Just think of how pumped the crowd would have been Friday had they just done their job tonight and beaten a team that is constructed to lose.

The game in November against Columbus, in which we choked away that 3-1 lead and ended up getting ZERO points really is looming large right now. Close that game out and were in decent shape. That was another Marty meltdown, figures.
