It doesn't matter if the coach is a dumbass and doesn't play him the right spot. You can easily flip Bahl/Luke most likely and be in a better spot but a Bahl/Smith would cause this fanbase to be on high blood pressure medication for the rest of their lives.

Logically the D pairs would be

Siegs Hamliton
Luke Marino
Bahl Miller/Nemec

Could even flip Siegs and Luke
The coach could choose to have those pairing tomorrow if he wanted. And looking at it on paper there's no way one should/would expect it to be lottery team level bad. Not with a decent, simple system in place. The problem is we don't have that.

It's perfectly fair and understandable to believe it's a downgrade from last year, but in the same territory statistically as the San Jose Sharks? That's completely unacceptable.

The Reaves talk is even crazier now that I think about it because Jack's injury didn't even come off some physical or dirty hit.
Even if it did, “enforcers” don’t deter guys from taking cheap shots in today’s NHL. It’s a myth. Marchand injured Liljegren the other night and Reaves didn’t do squat. It doesn’t change anything.

Luke - Dougie
Siegs - Marino
Bahl - Nemec

looks pretty darn good to me. I’d be willing to give Bahl more time. He had a bad game tonight but he got hit with a shot early. Bahl - Marino and Siegs - Nemec could be interesting too, with Luke - Dougie as the first pair.

Another thing...all off-season I was told that concerns about forward depth were overblown and that we had way more than enough talent to overcome a couple of injuries in the top 6. Now that exact scenario plays out and all of a sudden it's "oh we have too many AHL guys in the lineup".

It wouldn't be as big of an issue if Mercer didn't look so bad offensively and Palat as well. I thought Mercer would be able to fill in the top 6 as a center but that's not the case.

Yes because we all knew we'd lose 100 point + 80 point guy 10 games into the year lmfao

A loss like this would be a little more easy to take if we didn't lose games to a Panther's team missing their top 2 dmen and a team like the Capitals after making their 3 goal lead look like nothing all to blow the game in the 3rd. Could of been 2 more wins in the win loss column. Would help in the standings and we would practically be tied with the Rags.

This game no matter what excuses we come up with would be tough for alot of teams of missing their top 2 centers. I imagine a team like Tampa Bay , Toronto , Buffalo , Los Angeles , Edmonton would struggle too. We aren't built like Boston , Carolina or Vegas. I wonder how we would look with one of those 3 teams coached behind our bench.
I agree with you on Washington, but I’d swap the Florida game with Arizona. I had no problem with the Florida loss. They’re the best team we’ve played this year other than Colorado tonight.

The Arizona and Washington losses were both wastes of points. Neither team is good.

And they are still potting 3-4 goals a night.

Its a bit shocking how bad the defense and goaltenders are.(Woods goal was a breakaway but the dude shot it straight on.)

Also, depth at defense feels way more sketchy. How in the seven F’s is Collin Miller still injured?! Also Nemec, and Hatakka both were out at one point in the AHL. Plus the vets are struggling.

We're without our two best centers, which is going to impact the team in all areas. Unfortunately Mercer has gotten off to a rough start as well, so it's almost like being down 3 centers. Hopefully he gets going and they figure out how to tighten things up defensively. It's going to be a struggle until Nico and/or Jack comes back.

So frustrating to watch when they give up so many outnumbered / high danger chances and both of our goalies give up way over 3 goals on average with sub .900sv%. I'm glad they are scoring goals, even without Jack&Nico, but they feel so insignificant when you know the opponent can score with ease. I don't know how much of this is the defence, missing Graves and Sevs, young guys (Hughes, Bahl) settling in, Marino and Siegs a bit off compared to last year, having to ice Smith. Or how much it's missing Nico, Mercer's bad start, missing Tatar etc. I had a feeling that the offense will go up and defence down this season, but I didn't expect this much. I also believe the narrative (and results) would be way different if we had some vezina contending goalie on net.

Classic Devils game unfortunately, preceded by extended delay to start the game, which ultimately caused me to pass out and thankfully miss the game.

Gave up PPG and SHG
Vanecek shat the bed again
Miles Wood scored, and SHG to boot
Injuries

just crazy.

I’ve only gotten to see the text alerts and some tweets of Wood hitting Siegs, Dougie retaliating, Colton hitting Luke and Biz calling us a .500 hockey team without our PP.

I’m sure everything being said in this thread is completely rational and level-headed. Can’t wait to read through it.

The randos be dooming. Shocking

Two games out of 1st in the conference. They have enough talent to weather the storm until they get healthy
They have talent but not enough of it to stubbornly play as if they can just run and gun even without two of their three best forwards. They’d better figure out how to play a system that isn’t pond hockey now before it costs them later.

Exactly. They need to adjust their style of play until their 2 best players come back.

Well yes, because they were stupid concerns. The forward depth is excellent. There are zero teams that aren’t dealt a massive blow by losing their top two centers — their captain and franchise player.

What the hell is the alternative to calling up AHL players? We have one true AHLer in and he’s played well and is only in because Foote is also down with injury.

Vanacek didn't shit the bed. He played pretty decently considering how many rushes we gave up and he had made some crazy stops.
