I really like Ty still and I think he can still develop into a very good player, but the way our D is being built I get his chances here were falling off, especially with Luke, Muk, and the Utica boys knocking on the door.

Fitz is committed to improving this D though, which you have to like.

Sevo seems like a goner though. I am bummed about that and hope we got a great return to make me less bummed about it

No reason to be nervous with Bratt. We have 13 million to work with to sign these guys with Bratt

Decent amount but I thought we might have enough for a high end winger PLUS Bratt .
How much is Johnson’s cap hit ?
Tatar would be nice to move but … kind of a shifty move to lure him here and move him before his contract is up . It’s only one more year so it’s not horrible , just if given the opportunity , I’d like to move him but wouldn’t be the end of the world if we don’t .
What other players do we have that we should consider moving ? We had some bottom 6 “bloat” . Moving Zacha was a good move to being in a good reliable 3c .
Johnson and ???One if Boqvist or McLeod moved for Puljujarvi would be as good or even better than the Smith for Marino move in my opinion .

He isn't needed. We could just resign Severson and be very content with our defense once Luke Hughes comes. Now we need to hope we can acquire some fwd talent for Severson and don't let him walk for free.
What? Or we didn’t draft for need. But he could be very needed in 2-3 when it actually matters. Severson is probably an expensive and risky extension. Nothing about this makes the Nemec pick a bad pick.

Hamilton/Sevo is one of the best 1-2 RHD in the league. We only have at best 2 potential forward prospects who can be top 6 players.

Fitz isn't playing. Underachievers getting shown the door left and right.

Severson becomes redundant. Hamilton and Marino are locks and Nemec is coming. I wonder who's the best winger we could get for Sevo.

We traded very little for something of value. Even if we wanted to keep Sevs (and I don’t think we ever did) we could easily trade Marino for a similar package a year from now.

Sometimes you just gotta make value trades.

I like the player, but I'd have dumped that 2nd pick for DeBrincat for sure. DeBrincat would have been deadly with Hughes.
Yep 100000% was the move. Especially with this acquisition. We'd have an amazing 1-2-3 RHD situation, to go with an elite goalscorer for hughes for the next decade

I'm fine with this logic. It's very sound imo.

The Severson situation is a curious one. I think there’s a good chance he’s on the roster when the season starts. But his value is gonna skyrocket if he’s part of the Devils’ return to competitiveness this season, and there’s no way the Devils are gonna be paying him what he’ll get in UFA next year. But can you really dump a top-pairing defenseman if you’re looking at your potential second playoff berth since 2012?

I love the Marino addition but it’s gonna be bittersweet if the Devils finally have some success and Severson isn’t here for it. He’s been a trooper for a long time.

Mango has $3 million so if we can move up it frees up a good amount. We almost have to if we bring in another winger. We have too many as is right now

I would love another really good forward prospect as well but we already have Hughes, Bratt, Hischier, and Mercer as a really good young group of forwards. Also Sharangovich and then yes Holtz and Gritsyuk. That is far from a bad group.

It’s also completely irrelevant. You don’t draft for need and how good of a pick he is will completely depend on how good of a player he becomes.

It’s going to be a fickle situation, now if nemec comes in and blows the doors off early on then it becomes more palatable to move severson

That’s if Debrincat is willing to resign it was way to much of a gamble
It's a gamble both ways. Nemec could be a massive bust and a 3rd pairing defender for his career. I rather take the sure thing and convince him to stay to play with one of the best centers in the game that is just 20.

In no way do you move the second overall pick for an extended rental who hasn't talked extension. This team wouldn't have been a cup contender with debrincat
He's a 24 year old multi time 40 goal scorer and if he would have had success with Hughes and the Devils started to rise there's probably a strong chance he could have been extended.
