We are absolutely moving Severson now, only question is when.

I’ll be sad to see him go, but Marino gives us a stay at home guy on the right side which we both lacked and will require at some point if Hughes is good. And at that price, you gotta strike now.
Definitely not a stay home guy.

Strong skater, good hands, loves to pinch, good puck mover. As a Pens fan I'm sad to see him go for essentially a depth piece, cap space and a 3rd. Struggled a little with his decision making late this year but was good in the playoffs, especially helping with the break out.

One thing, I hope gets better for Smith...he would get rocked every couple months to the point where I think his ability to handle pressure deteriorated significantly. I really hope this move helps his career. He's definitely a talented kid but he had a very difficult second year. The thing is, a lot of Pens fans were pretty down on Marino, too.

Fair. “More defensively sound” guy then.

Ummm wouldn’t make sense. Severson is older and gonna be more expensive if we resign him. Marino is on a nice contract from ages 25-29. Would make no sense to trade him over Severson who is older and in line for a big expensive extension.

I doubt they trade Severson either at least until the deadline. Severson also isn’t as good of a fit long-term with Dougie, Luke and Nemec all being offensive powerplay guys.

This trade makes so much sense in so many ways both now and long-term.
Thing is that the Canucks have a massive boner for Marino maybe they asked for us to get Marino and we package him for Miller .
I would rather have Marino for ourselves as the price is right and a very very good fit

Beautiful. Oh look...is that cap space being weaponized I see?

Now you've got one of the most valuable trade chips on the market in Severson.
About time it was used, though.

I was tired of hearing about how we had all this cap space but never used it.

THIS is what I'm talking about. Yessir!

Clearly Severson is gonna be packaged with Bratt in the fabled deal for Tkachuk.

I don’t Miller makes sense not matter what. He’s gonna get a huge overpaid extension in his 30s.

If the Canucks wanted him they almost certainly could have had him if this is the price. I doubt it was a “Ty Smith or bust situation”

Theyd prefer Severson, hes a better defenseman. Especially if they move Myers, they need a PMD then.

I don’t want to just kick Severson to the curb 5 minutes after we get Marino . Is Marino as good as Severson ? Looks like Marino might be a better overall fit in the roster , sound defensive player , can PK .

Out of nowhere, I'm pleasantly surprised

Too bad Ty didn't work out but it's good we moved on after last season's regression

Severson without the offensive talent, but may be a tad better defensively. Not entirely comparable.

Marino is a better fit 2-3 years from now. Severson is a better fit right now as he’s a better player and we need him for the powerplay.

If Severson goes, there's an odd lull period where we don't have any true all situations guy. Might just be 1-2 seasons but there will be a learning period for Nemec/Luke.
