I like the trade but really wonder what Fitzgerald’s plan is.

Severson - Hamilton - Marino locked into next year leaves no room for Nemec. Also seems like the Devils are planning on moving on from Severson with this trade.

Really seems like Fitzgerald is trying to bolster the roster as much as possible so there is zero excuse for the team to miss the playoffs. Can’t blame kids not being ready anymore because the only spots they have on this team is if they push out a veteran.

Nemec doesn’t have to play in the nhl next year. He will probably get the holtz treatment

Fantastic trade from Fitz. They've got another desperately needed defensive defenseman. His microstat profile also shows his strengths are exactly what the Devils need: Rush defense, retrievals, and zone exits.

He'll be a perfect complement to Luke in the future. Fitz has got his Severson replacement, who happens to be younger and cheaper.

Nemec doesn't have to be on the team this year. Roll with the three you listed and move Severson at the deadline and call up Nemec. There's no reason to rush Nemec.

They’re definitely going into the season with Severson there. I don’t think it would make sense to trade Severson for a top 6 forward. Our top 6 group looks pretty set and we have a great group or RD.

Fitz said he was willing to trade the pick had there been more control, how many times does this have to be said. You don't trade 2OA for 2 years of a player when there's no guarantee he'd extend or that we'd make the playoffs in that timeframe.

And stop with the Nemec nonsense. He and Luke are not gonna just step into the team and dominate. They most likely don't become regulars until 2023-24 or even 2024-25 seasons, and it might take a year after that for them to become impact players. Who knows what the Devils roster is gonna look like in 2-4 years.

I doubt that’s true. We wouldn’t have had the cap space and we don’t have the cap space. If we signed Gaudreau no chance we were signing Palat for 6M.

I think the only business left this summer could be getting rid of Mango but I’m not sure that’s a guarentee. Don’t know who will want or take him and don’t think it’s necessary to spend assets to dump him. He can play in the AHL if need be.

Love the trade. But in retrospect if you look at Fitz's Defense moves since he's been brought in they all have been very good.

They all have addressed obvious gaps and seem to have a level of cohesion with the overall D core.

Fitz has done a spectacular job with the defense since he's taken the helm....

I sort of feel sorry for him with goaltending situation because he's tried his damnedest to address the issue but they all keep going the way of Spinal Tap drummers.
