Love the trade. But in retrospect if you look at Fitz's Defense moves since he's been brought in they all have been very good.

They all have addressed obvious gaps and seem to have a level of cohesion with the overall D core.

Fitz has done a spectacular job with the defense since he's taken the helm....

I sort of feel sorry for him with goaltending situation because he's tried his damnedest to address the issue but they all keep going the way of Spinal Tap drummers.

It seems obvious to me he say major gaps in how Shero addressed (or more likely not addressed) the blueline and made it a priority to correct it.

Pens fans scratching their heads over all the pre-draft scouting reports agreeing that Smith is an excellent skater. I'm beginning to suspect a lot of them don't even watch the players and just copy each other. One guy called Smith an excellent skater and it makes it's way in to everyone's reports.

Usually when we trade a player I get a little pang of regret that we're moving one of our guys. Haven't felt that yet this summer.

Smith was an excellent skater, he did not have top-end speed but he was great on his edges and in tight spaces, we saw it in his rookie year. I do not know what happened to him in Year 2 that he lost his mobility, but he never had it to start the season and he didn't finish the season with any.

I think that seriously happens...not only that..guys can look very good in Junior when there is a whole lot of space and a lower tear of competition.

I think you don't really see the deficiencies until the player is having to play at max speed and agility every single night....

and then the scout sits down in the bleachers on Wednesday night to watch a Spokane game and every shift Ty skates the puck up the ice virtually unopposed and makes a play...he sees a smaller stature guy carrying the puck up the ice curling just inside the blue line and walking the line...writes down "good speed uses his edge well"... doesn't matter he was unopposed, doesn't matter he never had to face anymore with true NHL speed ..he looked good lugging the puck up ice, his hair even fluttered in the wind

Nope. Watch him switch directions...his edges suck. He looks like the Titanic turning... especially to his outside. He looks like Frankenstein. That's all edge work not speed

I think I said the other day I wouldn't be surprised to see Smith traded before the season started, didn't think it'd be so soon though lol. He's just a bit redudnant on our team and his skating being Butcher-esque doesn't help.

I've heard good things about Marino. I remember maybe like a year ago I saw some clips on Twitter showing the subtle plays Marino made throughout a game that were really slick defensively. Excited to see what he can do and gotta wonder what'll happen with Severson now.
Nothing. You start the season and you have him qb one of the pp units. If we stink early, you deal him earlier to maximize his return. If we’re hanging around, you make a decision closer to the deadline.

No it’s his quickness and explosiveness. He’s a very technically good skater who turns and hold’s his edges well and has some really nice footwork. He’s just doesn’t have quick enough feet or much explosiveness.

Marino's also the perfect partner for Luke Hughes too, he'll be the RHD version of Siegs.

He's basically Adam Fox without a brain, which is a pretty bad hockey player considering Fox is the most cerebral players in the whole sport.
