Hyman, if I'm reading the commentary on him correctly, is a more high energy pest type player? Anderson is not a high event player when I watch him. He has always played smart and has good defensive positioning. He has more skill than he has shown at the NHL level. I'd expect a smart smooth third line wing for TOR when he finishes developing. He'll play the odd shift in the top six once he fully matures but I don't think you'll want him there long term.
Hyman's played with Matthews a lot over the last few years (probably 90 % of the time).
His job is to get in first on the forecheck, win puck battles, and get a cycle going. He works hard and also gets back on D. He isn't overly physical, but he will finish checks when he has the opportunity.
He's not all that skilled, but if he has an open net he can hit it. He works well with two skill guys (generally has been paired with Matthews & Nylander) because he knows his job and is capable enough not to ruin the flow of the offense. He has two 20 goal seasons, but he really doesn't have 20 goal skill.
He's also a strong PKer.
Leaf fans like me are hoping Anderson can play a similar role for us down the road.
I like Johnsson and wish we could have kept him, but this was a cap trade, and I like that we got a young player who can be a cheap contributor for several years.
It's a win-win trade imo, and considering the haul we got for Kapanen (1st + Hallander, a recent 2nd rounder), you guys got solid value. IMO, Johnsson is a better player than Kapanen.
