This is how I would shuffle the lines for next game.
Boqvist-Hughes-Palmieri
Kuokkanen-Sharangovich-Gusev
Zacha-Zajac-Wood
Johnsson-McLeod-Bastian

Murray-Subban
Smith-Severson
Butcher-Carrick

Comrie-Wedgewood

Kulikov a little unlucky to get scratched but I want to see both Butcher and Carrick in the lineup.
Smith has earned a top 4 promotion.

Comrie gets his audition to see if he is better than Wedgewood.

If we're actually going to hold players accountable for their terrible play then I would bench Johnsson & Subban for the next game. Palmieri, Gusev & Kuokkanen deserve to sit too but you still need to ice a team. I'd move Sharangovich down into a smaller role too, I think he's trying to do too much paired with Hughes and needs to simplify his game a little bit.

Don't want to see Wedgewood again either, if Blackwood can't go then see what we have in Comrie.

Boqvist - Hughes - Palmieri
Wood - Zajac - Merkley
Sharangovich - Zacha - Gusev
Kuokkanen - McLeod - Bastian

Murray - Severson
Kulikov - Smith
Butcher - Carrick/Tennyson

Comrie

Not trolling but was wondering if you guys got as much of a kick out of the fact that you guys have two goalies named Blackwood and Wedgewood and also a player named Miles Wood as me? For some reason I can't get that out of my mind.
That's a you issue homie.

Not that there's anything wrong with what you're experiencing.

Wood can be a powerful driver for some.

A lot of people seem to be panicking a bit after the last game, but I'm really not worried. This is certainly an improved Devils team, especially on the blueline where it was needed most. I think they were a bit shellshocked to play a legit contender in the Islanders after playing their first three games against teams with similar playoff bubble capabilities in Boston and the Rangers.

Also, it's important to note that the Devils were playing (again) without their first line center, their starting goaltender and two legit roster factors in Vatanen and Bratt. Did the Devils get crushed? Sure, but it's a young team, and the important thing is that they learn from it and respond well for the next game.

I would not flip out and restructure the line-up for the next game, but I would make a couple of tweaks. I'd really like to see Ryan Merkley, and the Devils would be wise to give a day in the press box to Kuokkanen or Johnsson, both of whom have had very ineffective starts to the season. But I'm fine with the blueline. Subban and Severson were both admittedly pretty bad in the Islanders game, but I felt both of them were good in the first three games. I'm thrilled with the play of Murray and Smith -- they have both been just so terrific back there -- and I also feel Kulikov has played well. Tennyson is what he is, so to speak, but until Vatanen returns he's the best option the Devils have to pair with Ty Smith.

The response of Jack Hughes for the next game will be extremely interesting to me. This is the first game I've seen where the other team's head coach clearly game-planned for him in particular. After two very good games and one superstar domination, Hughes was not good at all last night. This does not bother me -- of course the kid is going to take a few lumps, he's 19. I can really see him coming out with a ton of fire for the next Devils game and really lighting it up.

Bottom line is we need to keep this team's talent and performance in perspective. They have improved but there are issues that are obvious. With both Rangers and Bruins, there were times we were locked into our own zone to the point of exhaustion and completely dominated.

Goalies: Blackwood appears better than Wedgewood, but last night wasn't really Wedgewood's fault.

We won 2 and lost 2. The return of Hischier and Bratt will make us better. I am not sure what the trading market will look like in a shortened season but I would like to see a forward go for a a stay at home verteran defenseman that chips in once in a while. I think Severson and Subban are both risky and understand they like to be offensive, but both make too many mistakes to be a Coffey or Housley. I have never been a Severson fan but came to the conclusion he wasn't going anywhere a few years ago. If there is an opportunity to pick up a stronger veteran defenseman I would do it.

I didn't watch the full game, I made it a period. One thing I have noticed is our defensmen are reverting back to flip it out rather than make a play. There needs to be support in the defensive zone so we don't play a game of catch all game.

While I follow your logic, I hate wholesale changes, especially because of one game.

Ii like zacha moving to zajacs wing, but I keep govy with hughes since he was great the first three, and see no need to change d pairings, especially since it was really subban and sevs that had rough games and bad forward play had a role.

Did it feel like the Devils were trying to force the puck to him? I thought I saw a couple of plays where a Devils player had a clear shooting lane or pass, but tried to force it to Hughes, which played right into NYI's hands since they were indeed keying in on him.

Gusev has not impressed me one bit so far this season. 0 points in 4 games for someone that's supposed to be one of our reliable offensive weapons? He wasn't all that great last year until garbage time when the season was basically over. Getting a bad feeling he's not part of our future.

PK sucks too. Guy has the weirdest career arc I've ever seen. Wins a Norris at age 24, then has a huge decline at age 30? How many Norris caliber d-men start shitting the bed that early in their careers?

Ty Smith, Blackwood, and Hughes have been bright spots.

To be fair to Subban, he never should have won the Norris. If it wasn't voted on by clowns who view points as the #1 indicator of who's a good dman it wouldn't have happened. Guy was 4th in SH TOI for defenseman on his team that year, with 5th not far behind him. Essentially the Norris was given that year to a guy who wasn't even a staple on his teams PK. Not to mention he scored a whopping 68% of his points on the PP that year lol. The Norris was given to a PP specialist.

Despite being held scoreless I thought Hughes still carried that confidence on to the ice last night, I thought he played well.
He had 1 shift in the 3rd where he looked so smooth controlling the puck, circling in the zone. He even put it through the legs of an Islander. It was so smooth it reminded me of the zuppa de muscles at Artie Bucco's. Of course nobody handled his pass that hit them in the tape

Subban was +13 at ES that year - and it was a lockout shortened season - and it was Montreal's choice not to use him on the PK. Montreal got 4 more shot attempts a game than the opposition with PK on the ice that year. The idea that PK Subban was a PP specialist is absurd.
