Josh Jacobs has played a NHL game... Carrick has played 201

As it stands we are talking about a replacement player. Sure injuries happen...But with Severson, Vatanen and Subban anyone of them can slot up to the top pairing...This makes the 4th RHD completely irrelevant.

How is it irrelevant? I would much rather slot in Carrick on the bottom pair right side than anyone you mentioned. We arent getting anything of value for Carrick in a trade, he's more valuable being a 7/8 D in my eyes.

I'm not sure I have any faith in any of our D in Bing. As I've said before, I believe I've read that we go thru 10 D on average, and to me, the more depth we have there the better.

You don't need to have faith in any of them...Severson, Vatanen and Subban are essentially all capable of being the #1 RHD...1 of them will be underutilized as it is. One going down means less of an equal distribution...That is it.

okay I would like a player who may have to play 13-15 minutes a game to not completely stink... Carrick is a fine depth D, what is the point of moving him? Most of the forwards that will be plugged in for injuries will be on two way deals playing Bingo.

Who plays those 8 to 10 minutes of even strength time is not worth carrying him in a wasted roster spot. Right now all 3 of those guts are going to play 20 minutes a night...An injury means two will play up minutes and the 3rd will play down minutes. The 4th D man is irrelevant when you have 3 quasi #1 RHD.

Yeah I want carrick instead of just not having him and having two forwards in the suite. Would prefer a NHL player to be playing compared to an AHL one.

What happens when Subban and Vatanen are injured at the same time?

What is weird about it?

You cannot go into the season worrying about things like that

What do the Oilers do if McDavid/Draisaitl are injured together? How about Pittsburgh with Malkin/Crosby?

My goodness :help:. The point is that if the Devils move Carrick or Mueller, they would need to bring in another defenseman capable of playing 13-16 NHL minutes.

But you can rotate those forwards in and out situationally....Carrick is never seeing the light of Day with a healthy Severson, Subban and Vatanen.

What forwards can you rotate in and out situationally that would not be playing in Bingo? Rooney and who else? you have 3 non roster spots.

Rooney and Hayden. That means two like Bastian and McLeod would be able to be rotated in for certain situations. vs Carrick just sitting until someone gets hurt.

A 14th forward is generally a wasted roster spot because of how lax the NHL is with IR, it's not hard to fabricate an injury and sit a guy for a week who may not need it. Now that goons are basically gone it's really not necessary to carry a 14th forward. Worst case scenario you just dress 11 forwards and 7 D.

Wouldnt one of Rooney and Hayden be in the current lineup? meaning the other one would sit?

I don't know that either are a sure thing to be in or out of the lineup. But they will be on the roster based on their contracts.

I certainly would like the option to use 2 kids when you might want some more speed, creativity or can create more favorable match ups. I suppose you can just start the season with them in Bighamton and call them up whenever you want since they are waiver exempt so that helps...But you still have the same situation of if you have a healthy right side, Carrick is blocking a roster spot

Well, like I said, when injuries occur and we're down to our 10th defenseman, I'd rather have Carrick in the mix in the top 4 than any of the Bing guys.

Id rather have carrick than another forward, he's a solid depth d man. I dont see it as blocking a roster spot, non roster spots are largely injury insurance.
