Hayden and Rooney as your 13th and 14th forwards is a good thing people....

It would be but I don’t see us offing Mueller or Carrick atm, this admin like the previous one believes in having 8 NHL caliber defensemen. We do have prospects on D but likely none at the AHL level this year and I doubt either of those two clear waivers.

One thing that is probably underappreciated in the context of the moves Shero has made is that we'll be setup very well for the expansion draft. Realistically, assuming neither Greene or Vatanen is resigned during the season it's likely the only exposed players of any importance will be one of (1) Coleman, Wood, Zacha and (2) Schneider. Vatanen and Greene would be technically exposed but I would find it unlikely that Seattle would look to sign them in advance of the formal expansion draft.
I truly believe that had a large part in the decision to send Smith back to Juniors last year. If he played, we would have needed to protect him for the expansion draft.

Carrying 8D makes the most sense for us right now. We don't really have any waiver-exempt defensemen (Jacobs maybe?) but have plenty of waiver-exempt forwards. Can just call them up and down as needed.

Jacobs is no longer waiver-exempt although that doesn't matter, no one's going to claim him.

It really seems Boqvist CAN play in Bing...

That contract with Brynas is still there, and it gives the Devils the flexibility to send Boqvist to play with his Swedish pro team in 2019-20 if they feel that’s best for his development — much like sending a player back to a Canadian junior team.

But Boqvist’s intentions aren’t to go back to Sweden. He obviously has the end goal of making the Devils’ NHL roster in October, but regardless, he said he “definitely” wants to play in North America.
Why Devils’ Jesper Boqvist wants to make jump to North America in 2019-20

Ya, I always kind of figured. The idea that he absolutely could not play in the AHL didn't sound right.

So now the question is, if he doesn't make the big club, can Shero talk him into playing there? Maybe by explaining the likelihood of it being a short term assignment.
Well, from that article, it seems like Boqvist realizes the importance of getting used to the smaller ice, and he at least seems open to the idea of playing in the AHL. He makes it seem like the SHL contract was mainly just a fallback in case he didn't get signed.

“I will try to take a spot here, and then we will see," Boqvist told NJ Advance Media. "But I signed (the Swedish contract) before I knew about this, so we will see. But I’m going to push for a spot here.”

I have a feeling it will depend on the reason he doesn't make it... whether he simply gets beaten out by another young player vs us signing some UFA that simply leaves no spots opportunity for the kids.

he will be a rookie this year meaning after next year he is a 2nd year player, therefore he'd be exempt

I love everyone’s enthusiasm, but the Devil’s are most likely done making any major moves. We should be looking forward to PTOs or College free agency.

Ironically the lack of depth last year will be this year’s strength. Half of Bing played in the NHL last year and most did well in short stints. There will be a nice battle for the last few spots.

Mueller and Carrick are great depth. You can give Greene or Smith breaks if need be or they step in if someone gets injured.

Why package more picks and prospects for 1 player? You can’t build a team with finess and elite players only. I love the Devils bottom 6, because I remember when it was awful.

Devils aren't done. There will be one more impact player added between now and training camp.

i was thinking about that today and i really think the devils are done as of right now. things can change in camp if they dont like what they see from the kids there but the plan is to have the teams last spots settled within.

The Bruins have to move Backes, no way they can afford him on that team after McAvoy and Carlo get paid, would love to get some pieces for to take on Backes and then buy him out next year.

It depends on how some other situations play out. If Toronto gets Marner signed they're going to have to make some moves. Tampa still needs to sign Point. There are a bunch of RFAs around the league that still need to be signed. We might still be able to get something good from somebody.
