It's seriously amazing how the path of an organization can change in 3 games. It's not that they're losing, it's how they're losing. Game 4 was by far the worst playoff effort I've ever seen. Effort shouldn't even be a question in the playoffs, it should be the bear minimum. There is a cultural problem with this team right now. They look like a team that has no desire to be in the playoffs.

Not only did they lose tonight; they didn't take a pound of flesh either. The only thing they succeeded at is waving the white flag

Imagine what the Lightning would have done if they were down 3-0 in the third…. Maroon, Perry, Colton…

We don’t even try to bump the goalie. Timo Meier can jump on Igor’s leg and nothing. That was the turning point of the series. When Igor had to stand up for himself and no one backed him up. The PP goal that came as a result was just the icing on the cake.

When the Rangers didn’t respond in that moment the season was over.

Seriously, good point bringing up Tampa. Dudes faces would've been going through the glass if they were out of a game 5 like that. Why?
Because that team actually wants to win. This team is a bunch of mercenaries who already got theirs and thought they could coast and let Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider run the show.

Look at the difference between who Tampa acquires at the deadline vs who we acquire at the deadline. This organization is seriously cursed.

Of course, all of this would be mitigated if our first overall or second overall pick could put a f***ing puck in the net that wasn't in a 4-0 blowout but I know that's asking for a lot

100%. No one going after meier is a disgrace. Then hischier bowled into igor and same thing. Everyone just stood around him doing nothing. I don't care if he lost an edge, you get in his face and you let him know he can't be doing that.

Do we happen to know who was on the ice when the meier thing happened? All 5 of those players being gone would be fine by me.

Something substantial needs to be done Saturday.

Bench Panarin?

Get Othmann on a flight to New York, burn an ELC year and yank Lafreniere?

Put Talyn Boyko in?

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Trouba's interview says it all. They have no answers. Something needs to be done to shake up the room and the series.
Panarin was the only one who forced the goalie into making a tough save. Panarin also hit the inside of the post.

No one else did a damn thing, but whatever.

Still so pissed off about the lack of traffic in front, battle, everything. Meier sitting on Shesty with no response really was the turning point. f*** this team. Ryan f***ing Strome showed more guts than these assholes. Haven't seen them play playoff hockey since last week. Bruins would murder them. Literally.

But the really important question is - was Mika's hair looking shiny after the game? I hope Key's suit wasn't creased.

What an uninspired dumpster fire.

-Zero puck pursuit. Defensively, played everything like a penalty kill. Forechecker goes in, instead of making a beeline for the puck, chases the D back and at the last second curls back for gap control. Gives D easy exit.

-Still too much bullshit at the blueline. Dump it in and get it. Zibanejad the worst probably. Zibanejad hasn't scored a goal in damn near 10 games, and is reluctant as hell to just shoot. Stop spamming 20-93-88 at even strength...other than Kane finishing a turnover that line has done f*** all at even strength.

-PP is a dumpster fire. They were looking world class with the same setup but with Tarasenko on the half wall. Please go back to that and put Kane on PP2 which badly needs a puck distributor.

-Still way too much perimeter play. Chip the puck to the slot, go there, and win a battle.

-Shot selection was awful:
--When they got in on the rush, they routinely passed up shots between the circles only to carry the puck to the corner for bad angles. Too much preference to start a cycle rather than throw the puck to the net and go get a rebound on a mediocre big goalie who's been giving up a ton.
--Off the cycle, when there was no traffic in front, they'll shoot from distance. With traffic in front, they held onto the puck. Fox needs to stop dicking around with the puck for a second everytime he gets it before making a decision. The hesitation is killing us.
--Shot targeting was awful also. Big goalie, shoot under the arms, at his head/sides of head if he drops down enough you have an angle to go top shelf, make him move and go 5-hole, or go above the pads. They continue to try to pick corners, especially low, and especially glove. They've scored exactly 0 goals in those places, yet continue to target shots dumbly. Big goalies always give them fits because they won't change.
--They continue to skate past the net or to the side of the net. On the goalmouth scramble in the third, Panarin was the only one in front of the net and he was on top of the goalie practically, not in a shooting position. The puck was in the crease, Panarin was over the goalie, 2 players were behind the net, and one player was standing on the goal line next to the net.

Tarasenko, Igor, Mikkola, Kakko. Those 4 have been their only good/decent players the last 3 games. Panarin was better today than in the last game but still not getting on the scoresheet. 20-93-88 was a dumpster fire. Trouba has not been intimidating on D, and hasn't really taken a scalp which would help slow the Devils down. Schneider has been atrocious. 4th line has been pretty ineffective. Didn't love the line changes Gallant made, nor the refusal to change up PP1. Blasted the team after Game 4, I actually thought they were worse tonight by far (after the first), now there's no bullets in the chamber. There was zero pushback at the end, and it was dumb as hell to pull the goalie with 5 mins left.

This was a shit awful performance against a beatable team and goalie, and now they're on the ropes as a result.

Playing a young inexperienced team with an average weight of 150lbs. Canes getting injured every shift by the Piles...Bruins with their top 2 Cs clearly injured...Tampa playing on fumes...golden opportunity to advanced at least to the ECF and maybe even the finals and they blow it.

Players quit on Gallant less than two years in, a year after a run to the ECF.
This is not a Gallant issue- not at all. The guy has made the right moves here- he’s done everything a coach can do- chewed them out when they needed it, adjusted lines, played the hot lines when they were playing well. I mean there is no magic stick he can shake to get Panarian and Mica to look like engaged, productive players- he can’t force Trouba to contribute anything, literally anything to this series, he can’t make Kreider stop coasting around the ice, Kane backcheck with a purpose, can’t stop Schneider from firing the puck around the ice without a purpose, can’t make Laf 5 steps faster, can’t get Chytil out of witness protection…I mean this is the reality here guys. The coach can’t make adjustments because literally 50% of the roster has been putrid or worse, detrimental in the last 3 games.

I began putting together a list of all the players that needed to step up. By the end I basically had the entire team except Igor, Mikkola, Kakko, and Motte.

Mika is completely lacking in confidence right now and I put that on GGs idiotic decision to change the PP to appease kane/panarin. Mika has always been streaky and has difficulty breaking out of slumps. generally he has been able to though via the PP.

Panarin is the epitome of a regular season performer. Can’t do anything when the ice is clogged and teams defend against the rush. He also has very little fortitude and when things don’t work he’s the first to put his head down.

I actually liked tank and think there is a place for him on the team. Kane should sit game 6 and GTFO at this point. We all know he won’t though.

Trouba has negative speed, terrible hands, and anticipation which is a recipe for disaster against counter teams.

Laf manages to destroy most kid line shifts with his terrible hands and snail pace. Someone earlier mentioned he spends the off-season with his own coaches closer to home. At this point I’d put a stop to that and basically inform him he’s spending the entire summer glued to the ice with our staff or beginning the year in HFD. The lack of development over 3 years and his lackadaisical attitude.

20-2 shots in the third. What a putrid performance.

I haven't been on the Gallant has got to go bandwagon until today. 20-2 in the 3rd and Gallant says:

"I got no problem with their effort tonight. They competed, came in here and Jersey played a hell of a game, gotta give them a lot of credit, they played their best game of the series tonight.”

No problem with their effort? Then you're part of the problem.

Rangers are playing scared. Unless something drastic happens this thing is toast on Saturday and Gallant needs to be shown the door. There are some good coaches out there in holding patterns.

Panarin - out
Goodrow - out (more for cap reasons than effort reasons)
Lafreniere - serious reevaluation of what this dude needs to do to figure things out
Kakko - first line next year, all year and let's see where that takes him
Kane - thanks for the memories
Tarasenko - you too

Panarin is unmovable with that contract. And you can’t buy it out either. He’s not going anywhere.

Listen you have to give more ice to laf chytil and Kakko that’s really all you can do. They have to integrate with Panarin Mika Kreider and figure it out. Prob aren’t winning anything but that’s all u can do. Chytil getting 2C mins changes the makeup of the attack with his speed.

Vesey Trocheck Goodrow as a real checking grind it out third line

Cuylle Motte maybe comes back find a cheap center as always

Gotta let zac Jones play and figure it out. Need more offense from the back line.

The big move will be bringing in an Xs and Os coach

Listen.

I love you people. This organization isn't that appealing. I do it for the community.

Try not to freak out too much. This team can get better. Honestly, we need to get beat to have any hope of recognizing the holes.

I trumpeted all year that a first round exit is the team we have this year. I don't do that to annoy you, I just didn't want everyone to get sucked into it. The Rangers destroyed my cause in the first two games and then proceeded to play the exact series I expected in games 3-5. f***ing trolls.

The ECF run was nice for experience and showed that they do have a bit of fight. I know nobody wants to hear it, but it's the same humans. They didn't forget. They're just not that good right now.

That run was very fortunate. This gives us a much clearer picture of where we actually are. We need to improve.

There are still pieces here I like that we can build on. We have the best defenseman in the league and five games isn't changing my opinion.

I know trust is low but I kind of get some of what Drury did and hopefully he identifies the right things in the summer.

Teams and cores have gotten to the Cup after worse.

We need to keep adding young talent with our first rounders and not trading it away for rentals, we aren’t that good yet. And moving some aging overpriced veterans should be on the menu too. More than just Goodrow.

Yeah Laf and Kakko haven’t worked out but at least they are cheap.

Kreider, Trouba and Goodrow can all be coerced into moving. That would free up a lot of money to change directions and bring back some assets to work with.
