Post-Game Talk: Devil V

How about when they were letting meier approach igor and talk shit to him and no one even stepped to timo? What a joke. Its the online version of hockey where all teams should be built with skilled figure skaters. We need pricks. We need the avery’s and prust’s of the world. You throw a prime sean avery, prime dubinsky and prime brandon prust on this team and remove vesey chytil and kane and this team is significantly better.

Don't worry. Plenty of people are having the time of their lives watching this fan base convulse.

If I'm the Rangers, I put together a man-on-the-street video of fans telling them what they think of their performance in the last three games and play it in the room.

(I might not be the best motivator.)

Insane how the Devils adjusted this series. It sucks we are on the end of blowing a 2-0 lead, but gotta give credit where credit is due.

I hope this leads to them firing Gallant. To me he's the main problem with this team. Also think we need another solid puck moving defenseman. offseason will be interesting if we don't come back

I'm not shocked at all that this team could be "figured out". Despite everyone wanting to believe it was tiredness that did us in last year, Tampa actually figured us out too. There's a reason we couldn't score in the second half of that series and why games are looking extremely similar in this series. If you can get a lead on this team and then clog the neutral zone, they are completely inept 5v5. Their only chance at scoring is on the PP, which runs hot and cold.

This team follows (likely due to our tactics being catered to) Artemi Panarin's lead in terms of playing style. It's soft, finesse, east/west hockey. And if a team can figure out how to shut that down, this team has zero ability to find offense 5v5 in any other way. God forbid you ask us to try to play a dump-and-chase game. That's just laughable to watch. We aren't built to muck it up and score "ugly" goals.

One adjustment Gallant could try to make (and has) is activating the D more through the neutral zone and offensively to try to create additional support and pressure. But the problem vs. both Tampa and the Devils is that their best offensive players then become huge odd-man rush threats the other way. This is why the entire 3rd period felt like odd-man chance after odd-man chance against the Rangers.

This Devils team was always going to be a nightmare match-up for us, simply because of how one-dimensional we are.

I know it won't happen but hear me out: Drury should fire GG immediately. Team is mentally defeated. No life, no spirit, no character. GG is unable to make any adjustments. Hank should be behind the bench at MSG. Playoffs, home ice, Hank in the building. If the team does not show any spirit or character...well heck I guess we can plan the next rebuild. Do it Chris.

Think you're onto something. Unfortunately you cannot fire 20 players. Fire OR suspend GG for this next game, where Drury gets behind the bench himself. GM right there and everyones job and dignity on the line.
Thats been done before, wasn't it Lou Lamoriello?

This series sucks btw.

I was expecting close games and entertaining hockey and im sorry, even if youre a Devils fan, besides the joy of beating your arch rivals, the level of hockey has been shit.

The Devils have made some nice adjustments, no doubt. Gotta give them credit. Ruff starting Schmid was a shot to change shit up and wake his team up, but it worked out much better than even he anticipated, im sure.

But this is more about the Rangers having no pushback/answer/gumption/fire/will the last 2 games specifically than it is the Devils forcing their will on the games.

Thats what makes this thing so damn disappointing and depressing. The Rangers are so much better than this and they've completely fallen asleep.

I would have a much easier time accepting the fact that the Rangers lost some close games, maybe in OT showing some heart. Maybe some Devil come backs, a bad bounce, a bad call.... Game 3 was the closest thing to that, but it still wasnt close enough to what you want to see from a LOADED team gunning for a Cup. It's like the top 6 are just going through the motions and counting the periods until they can fly away and land on some beach somewhere.

And yeah, you could say that of course they care, of course they want to win and extend this run... but it sure doesnt look that way. How can you explain how this team goes from what we say in Game 2 to what we are seeing now? Complacency? The Devils miraculous adjustments? They are a very good team. The favorites in this series going in based on points, but not from performance over the last 1/2 of the season and especially not on paper when you consider the goaltending matchup.

It already feels like this series is over. The one thing i do know is if the Rangers have any shot of crawling back into this, they need to score first in the Garden. It def wont be the cure-all, but goddamn it they need some kind of confidence to get them up and out of this... funk... or whatever the f*** it is.

If it's bad enough that Gorton designed the build around players who are passive skill and no grit, they are one dimensional skill players with niche specialties.

If we are being honest, it was never really a true rebuild, Once they signed Panarin and traded for Trouba, it wasn’t one. I think that’s why Gorton/JD were really fired imo, they accelerated everything with the moves they made and it blew up in their faces when the Tom Wilson incident happened. That’s the big issue with the organization. Until they put their resources into scouting and player development and are able to develop elite talent instead of signing and trading for B level stars then this the result you are gonna get. Look at how the Devils built their team, would’ve much rather suffered through 2-3 bad seasons developing young talent than “fake rebuild” Gorton/JD did.

It's not falling asleep. It's getting put in extremely uncomfortable positions because they're not built to play the style the Devils are forcing them into.

You can't expect a team who has never played ugly dump-and-chase hockey to just excel at it by flipping a switch when it matters most. This isn't a video game. These guys haven't been asked to play that way all season long, nor are they built for it personnel-wise.

If they go down early and their PP runs dry, there's no response because tactically we don't have one.

Feeling dejected, in great despair and dwindling hopes. Slight hangover and wondering what I witnessed last night, really happened. Wonder how they are feeling. Hopefully worse and with greater disappointment than what we are feeling.
They can flip the script, but thats going to mean drastic maneuvers. Just get the 1st damned goal already, and take it from there. Someone needs to be the scapegoat here for this next game. I would have ZERO problem with benching Panarin. He's not the winner we thought he was. Would be thrilled to move him, he's leading the charge being part of the problem, opposed to the solution. He was supposed to "make up for" last year's PO "performance". Hasn't happened yet.
Bring up Brodzinski put him on 4th line and move Vesey to the 2nd.

The Maestro, The Shockmaster, The Demon all come to mind too and then of course there was this

Also hated how lots of their wrestlers music was just reworked versions of popular songs lol

Lol I forgot about this. Demon was a KISS ripoff. Early WCW was terrible upon Ted Turner's purchase.

Rangers are making Akira Schmid look like Ken Dryden...

The Devils look better every game and the Rangers look worse every game...

I literally asked myself that question last night.

The last 3 games have been literal torture.
Yeah, last night my wife just turns to me and is like "why do you do this to yourself?"

Being a fan is supposed to be fun but these last three games have been the antithesis of fun. It's one thing to lose tight games when you're playing well and it's back and forth - it's another for the team to just look feeble and gutless for 3 straight games while getting progressively worse. Only sport I care about and the only team I care about. It's masochism at this point.

Then to see the post-game locker room interviews (Gallant gets a pass from me because he literally just publicly ripped the team post game of game 4, he can't really go back to that well again) and look at these players just shrug their shoulders. I know keeping a level head is important but there could be SOME fire and passion. Instead Fox sounds like he's on xanax, Kreider's head is so far up his own ass he has shit on his goatee and Trouba is just shoulders shrugging oh well about everything. A little passion or acknowledgement of this shit would be nice.

I desperately want them to win on Saturday night but if we see another performance like this I really hope they get booed off the ice.

Pretty bad how the Panarin Window looks like it's closing very quickly. While I think Fox really did give him a hot potato, there were other things that stick in my mind. A couple of times he had the room to go forehand with the pass but elected to do weak backhand saucers hoping to catch the other guy off guard. He plays the game like some choreographed dance. Then just refusing to leave the wall when Tarasenko literally stared at him with the puck on his stick looking to give him a royal road pass across the crease. His finesse-based game sadly has become antiquated.
it was a bad pass for sure, BUT panarin should have recognized that and tried to handle it in a safer manner to just get it deep knowing he was the guy up high and in a vunerable position, and fox should have already been backing up when he saw the bounces. none of that excuses that BS "backcheck"
