BTW, this is all my fault i posted some nonsense the other day about Kane and this Rangers team being the product of the rebuild, ready to take the next steps...

I should have known that after 2 dominant wins, the Rangers would follow up with 3 games that make you questions all of life's decisions...

I'm the jackass... it's me... .i'm the loser.

I'm not shocked at all that this team could be "figured out". Despite everyone wanting to believe it was tiredness that did us in last year, Tampa actually figured us out too. There's a reason we couldn't score in the second half of that series and why games are looking extremely similar in this series. If you can get a lead on this team and then clog the neutral zone, they are completely inept 5v5. Their only chance at scoring is on the PP, which runs hot and cold.
Yeah, exactly. Tampa appears to have figured us out for that past 8 years, in truth.

Don't get down on yourself. This team still ices the 4th line after a goal so that makes me question my life decisions all the time.

Now now. Don't be so hard on yourself. I blame @Uninstaaled. He wasn't able to watch the first two games. I bet he watched the next three.

Think you're onto something. Unfortunately you cannot fire 20 players. Fire OR suspend GG for this next game, where Drury gets behind the bench himself. GM right there and everyones job and dignity on the line.
Thats been done before, wasn't it Lou Lamoriello?
what you really need to do is go all the way to the bottom, rebuild the organization, make it more like Tampa, better at developing talent.

Im sure the Knicks have all of his attention right now and softening the blow
And it can be an absolute blessing that they've turned a corner and will likely be in the "one superstar away" discussions this summer.

On a completely different note, there were two lines that got at it last night, which was the kid line and then when Kreider-Mika-Kakko got put together. It's painfully obvious to most, but Kakko makes his lines go and we need a coach that is going to elevate him to an all situations top line, top PP guy, and build up a confidence that was torn apart at his arrival.

Since you brought up the Knicks, there is a Clyde Fraizer line that perfectly describes Kakko: bulldozer finesse. It's time to tap into that on all levels.

If we lose in 6, the guys I'm looking to move are

Goodrow (Very likely)
Trouba (Unlikely)
Panarin (50-50)
Lafreniere (Unlikely)

Zibby and Kreider get a pass for me. I don't see them as part of the problem. Kreider is who he is and I've never thought that 'effort' was as big of an issue for him as others did.

If you move enough salary, I can be convinced to offer Tarasenko a deal.

Bring in Zac Jones, Cuylle from Hartford.

The whole 'who is the captain' drama for years might have been an indicator of some red flags.

So much this. Kakko makes his lines better, more persistent, more time on offense, more chances. He is exactly what the Rangers need more of.

Because he is not a incredibly deft goal scorer, and because he gets lumped with Laffy (a very different kettle of fish), some overlook what he brings.

I see a lot of complaints about Drury. Are the problems with the roster legacy Gorton/JD issues, or Drury issues?
He has been good. 2 marks against him are Buch and forcing Kane. He saw the need for pesky gritty personalities and is seeking players of that ilk. Now speed is the " Thing"...so add that to the list

Shesty is becoming Hank 2.0 and it's painful and embarrassing to see.
I don't mean to blame Igor whatsoever as he's the least of our concerns, but I also am not sure he has the same level of Playoff clutchness that Hank had. I don't have the same confidence in winning a 1-0 or 2-1 game in the Playoffs like we had with Hank when he would literally turn into a brick wall when it mattered most.

Again, this team has 15-20 larger issues than Igor this postseason. But he also hasn't shown the same ability to flat out steal games we have no business winning like Hank did.

I have been refraining from reading what has been posted on the boards since the start of the playoffs, so I have no idea as to what is being said (although I can imagine). If I am repeating anything here, sorry.

I have been a Rangers fans for over 60 years and I have never been as disgusted with my team as I am now...to the point of not even wanting to watch game 6 (although I know I will). There are no words to adequately convey how disgusted I am.

In all my years I have seen some dreadful, disappointing, and disheartening playoff games, but if this team cannot come back and win this series, this will rank up there with the worst of them.

I was never super confident coming into this series. I felt that, having watched all the Ranger/Devil games this year, that this was a bad matchup for the team...the dominant factor being how much faster the Devils are.

I think there has been a total miscalculation as to how to build a team for the playoffs. Management philosophy was to build a team with massive playoff experience. In today's NHL, what matters is speed, speed, speed. We are just not equipped to handle speedier teams. It is our wingers, not our centers who are lacking here and lacking big time. I still have confidence in the long term success of AL and KK but they will forever be handicapped by their lack of speed. Even Othman, our #1 offensive prospect, does not possess above average skating.

Even so, how the Rangers have played, without intensity, without desperation, without heart, is the most concerning. I never would have expected that with this group. It just shows that sometimes, experience can be a handicap in that it might come with the attitude that you can just turn it on when needed, Wrong.

Unless we come back and win, the trade for Kane will be seen as on of the worst in our history. Whether he is hurt or simply has nothing left, I don't know but except for brief stretches, he is terrible.

With this team, I have felt that as Zibanejad goes, so goes the Rangers. He is a streaky player and his down streak has dragged the whole team down.

I don't know what is going to happen if we are eliminated. What I do know is that, if we are, its going to take most of the summer for me to even begin thinking about this team again.

Over 60 years a fan...this is an absolute low point. Just horrid.

I feel like Igor did that all last year and outside of his bad time this year, he has done well. He made excellent saves games 1 and 2, and really every game.

Comparing to Hank isn't fair because all that man ever cared about was the Rangers sweater and everything he did was for that in ways only Messier would match, to me at least.

wonderful post and I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've written here

i can not begin to explain my disgust with this team, a complete lack of effort and desire since game 2 and i for the life of me can't figure out what has happened

I watched all of it. He didn't have any shutouts. We scored at least 3 goals in every win (4+ in 8 out of 10). It's not the same as what Hank did, which was being forced to literally win games via shutout with zero offensive production.

Again, this year and last year were far from Igor's fault. I'm not blaming him. But he's also not the same level of playoff clutch as Hank was (though that's probably an unrealistic bar to set given Hank's playoff record).

Yep. Its pretty friggin bad.

Going in I also hated this matchup, but I could swallow a series loss to the Devils if they were straight up beaten.

This isnt whats happening. The Rangers are beating themselves in so many areas. I give the Devils credit, but only 4 high danger scoring chances against an unknown rookie goalie in a pivotal game 5 has just as much to do with Rangers as it does with the adjustments the Devils have made. They arent some defensive juggernaut.

The kid has let up 2 goals in 9.5 periods against a team that averaged over 10 in the span the entire season. Its sickening.
