Post-Game Talk: Devil V

I don't mean to blame Igor whatsoever as he's the least of our concerns, but I also am not sure he has the same level of Playoff clutchness that Hank had. I don't have the same confidence in winning a 1-0 or 2-1 game in the Playoffs like we had with Hank when he would literally turn into a brick wall when it mattered most.

Again, this team has 15-20 larger issues than Igor this postseason. But he also hasn't shown the same ability to flat out steal games we have no business winning like Hank did.

I'm not blaming Igor for shit. At some point you've got to take the pressure off your goalie by scoring goals and holding leads. We already don't have much of a defense to begin with, so if we're chasing the game it's going to cause our D to want to take chances they wouldn't normally in situations if we were in control of the game.

Igor has been distracted by the Devils ever since game 3 and still plays well enough to give us chances to win that we never take. He's been literally carrying this team the best he can, and for his trouble our team watches as he gets run into and messed with time and time again.

Igor can't STEAL games even if the 30 saves he makes are robs if we can't put goals on the board. I'm so sick and tired of hearing that our goalies have to consistently steal games in order for this team to succeed, and again, I've been hearing this since Hank.

I have been refraining from reading what has been posted on the boards since the start of the playoffs, so I have no idea as to what is being said (although I can imagine). If I am repeating anything here, sorry.

I have been a Rangers fans for over 60 years and I have never been as disgusted with my team as I am now...to the point of not even wanting to watch game 6 (although I know I will). There are no words to adequately convey how disgusted I am.

In all my years I have seen some dreadful, disappointing, and disheartening playoff games, but if this team cannot come back and win this series, this will rank up there with the worst of them.

I was never super confident coming into this series. I felt that, having watched all the Ranger/Devil games this year, that this was a bad matchup for the team...the dominant factor being how much faster the Devils are.

I think there has been a total miscalculation as to how to build a team for the playoffs. Management philosophy was to build a team with massive playoff experience. In today's NHL, what matters is speed, speed, speed. We are just not equipped to handle speedier teams. It is our wingers, not our centers who are lacking here and lacking big time. I still have confidence in the long term success of AL and KK but they will forever be handicapped by their lack of speed. Even Othman, our #1 offensive prospect, does not possess above average skating.

Even so, how the Rangers have played, without intensity, without desperation, without heart, is the most concerning. I never would have expected that with this group. It just shows that sometimes, experience can be a handicap in that it might come with the attitude that you can just turn it on when needed, Wrong.

Unless we come back and win, the trade for Kane will be seen as on of the worst in our history. Whether he is hurt or simply has nothing left, I don't know but except for brief stretches, he is terrible.

With this team, I have felt that as Zibanejad goes, so goes the Rangers. He is a streaky player and his down streak has dragged the whole team down.

I don't know what is going to happen if we are eliminated. What I do know is that, if we are, its going to take most of the summer for me to even begin thinking about this team again.

Over 60 years a fan...this is an absolute low point. Just horrid.
As a fan for over 50 years, I completely agree, and share your pain.

For as long as I can remember, this team has a "malaise" everytime they are in the playoffs...in the early 70's, they actually knocked out the defending Cup champs in 3 straight years....only to be followed by the dreaded "malaise". Its an intangible thing, I guess.....but its part of our culture and history. Can't understand what causes it....or why it happens every playoff year.

Even when we won the cup in '94, I cant imagine what this board would have been like in games 4 & 5 in that Devils series...or after games 5 & 6 against the Canucks. At least the "malaise" didnt defeat us that year....Mess, Leetch, and Richter were strong enough to fend it off.

Sorry for repeatedly using that word, but I cant think of another description that accurately describes it.

Fire Gallant, we need Messier behind the bench tomorrow. He’ll guarantee victory in game 6 vs the Devils.

I’ve been refraining from posting because I didn’t want to do so out of anger but now that the dust has settled I my thoughts are still this same.

This team is so incredibly unlikeable and has been for quite a long time. Sure I have players I really enjoy watching and want to keep around for a long time but the core of this team is so rotten. The way it’s built is so rotten. The play style is so rotten. It starts from our lazy soft ass star players and trickles down the lineup.

Are Gorton/Drury/Gallant to blame? Sure but at the same time Gorton built a physical bruins team that is still pretty much in place to this day. He knew what it took to build a winner.

I think the trajectory of the organization changed when Panarin signed here.

It just baffles my mind that it’s basically May and the Knicks are actually the more likeable team in NY. They give a shit, they bust their asses. They may not be the most talented team but at least they care and the fans appreciate that.

Most of the time wins and losses don’t affect me, I’ve learned that as I’ve gotten older. What still pisses me off is when they don’t put forth any effort. During the regular season is one thing, I don’t even care then, but the last 2 games which are obviously the most important of the season? That’s always when I want to reconsider what I’m doing with my life.

I still can't believe that with all this offensive firepower we managed 2 goals in three games against an AHL level goalie. There is no excuse.

Can we say the writing wasn't on the wall though? There have been times this season when we have gone on stretches against difficult teams, but fail miserably against way lesser teams. I don't even want to get into how we play against young, unknown, 2nd/3rd string newbie goalies.

Won't win much in playoff hockey without sandpaper. And you can't ask smooth-skinned players to grow a layer of sandpaper. Ask them to do something that isn't natural for them, and their whole game is affected. And then, you have some players with sandpaper on the fourth line who don't have enough skill to make an impact against an all-around skilled team. Even if they can muster it for one game on Saturday, this is not second nature for them and will probably make them expend everything they have. But right now, it's one game at a time. I just don't think they can sustain sandpaper even if they could for one game.

Look, I think Zibanejad did try last night but it was not things he would normally do. He went to the front of the net and was the victim of a bad goalie interference call when he was pushed in. He's not exactly a model for center of gravity. He also got called early in the game for running subtle interference. If you're a ref, you see that right away with a player who doesn't normally do that.

Yeah going into the playoffs, with those numbers for Igor, you would probably say the Rangers would be waiting for their second round opponent.

Throw in the fact that you chased Vanacheck from the net and the Devils shifted to Schmid for games 3+4? Sweep.

The Rangers avg. 3.33 goals per game. I said it from the start. Give Igor 3 goals. thats all he needs.

They cant even manage 2 over the past 3 games. Its pathetic

If it's anything about us fans, no matter what disagreements we have we always come together in some way when there's universal pain and there's a lot of it right now.

pain is an understatement

as far as the kids go i could get on board with you if players like panarin and zibs were producing but we were losing games to a far better team. f*** i could agree with you if they even looked dangerous and we ran into a better team. but i havent seen any of that apart for last nights game, the devils havent dominated games at all. its not like we are being completely dominated by this devils team and i think thats what hurts the most right now

its painful because this devils team has played like trash for 4 games and is up in this series 3-2....this is all self-inflicted wounds by this team, the entire top 6 has just decided to not play hockey

zib and panarin both look like absolute shit and the blame should fall on their shoulders WAY before we blame any of the young kids on this team

ill just add this last point, while i blame the vets for not f***ing showing up, i wholeheartedly agree that the kids look like shit too KAM, laf, chytil have all looked downright terrible right now and the sad thing is i think the first 3 games of the series the kid line was the best line we had. they cycled down low and kept pressure on the devils, something i havent seen from any of the top two line. the KAM situation really scares me because he cant even make a pass right now

BTW, this is all my fault i posted some nonsense the other day about Kane and this Rangers team being the product of the rebuild, ready to take the next steps...

I should have known that after 2 dominant wins, the Rangers would follow up with 3 games that make you questions all of life's decisions...

I'm the jackass... it's me... .i'm the loser.
I'm glad we sorted that out.

I knew we were flying too high. It's never like that for this franchise - a quick series? They just don't have that killer instinct.

The most frustrating part of being a Ranger fan has to be when these random ass goalies come in off the street and look like Dominik Hasek and Patrick Roy combined.

As soon as they said they were going to "Akira Schmid" for Game 3, I knew we were f***** because I had no idea who that was.

Going to agree with you here, R7.

As much as I say that everyone needs to hold their own weight when it comes to making deep playoff runs because we need depth, being a vet means more than being immune to repercussions that younger players might receive for their mistakes. I realize that having vet status comes with perks (as it should, IMO), but I'm not a hypocrite and also say that being a vet also comes with the responsibility of also shouldering the lion's share of the blame when the entire team is playing like this is pre-season by showing no cohesion whatsoever.

You prop your young players up by leading by examples, and there have been no leaders on this team this series. Trouba taunting that Devil's player behind the net in game 2 is the kind of karma that gets captains stripped of that C. I've been hoping the kids show up where our vets are failing, but that isn't happening either.

Shit at all around. I don't think I can watch Game 6.

KAM hasn't looked the same since he was suspended for spitting. That incident messed up his head.

On another note.... do we all think it's time to unload Panarin? He eats up so much cap space and hasn't shown up for three out of three playoff series (including the bubble). Last year was his best, but even by his own admission, wasn't very good especially against Tampa.

a different coach isnt gonna fix this team. the core isn't good enough. the problem is that we had two top 2 overall picks not pan out, our best and highest paid player got his skull crushed by tom wilson and all of our defensemen except 1 are seriously flawed.

last season i said no

this playoffs though......yes i think its time

i was convinced last season he was hurt, then nothing came out but he still produced

this year however he was a 92 point player, he has 2 f***ing points in 5 games

Hey Folks, if you lost your ability to like please don’t advertise that on the forum. PM a mod and they can help you out explaining things, thanks.
