I'm not as doom and gloom as most seem to be. The Rangers were flat last night, no doubt about that. Show me a team that didn't have bad games in a playoff run. I think we're all a little extra jaded about it because we lost game 3 in a coinflip that would have almost certainly decided the series.

At the end of the day, 2-2 isn't bad. They controlled game one, controlled game two, game three was a 50/50 and game four they were outplayed. They can win a best of 3 against this NJ team.

At the end of the day if you told any of us before the series that the Ranger would be tied 2-2 at the end of 4 games we would gladly take it.

My concern goes beyond this series though. This team has cup aspirations. Not many teams get there after going 7 in the first round. A tired team likely means they won't be able to close out Carolina quickly. And going long against Carolina doesn't bode well for a series with Boston. That's what hurts the most about this blown 2-0 lead for me. It may sound silly, but they really do need this series wrapped up by game 6 unless the Islanders throw us a bone in game 5.

If Carolina can wrap things up tonight against the Fishsticks, then it'll probably be another week before they play the Rangers or Devils, and the rust can be a real factor in the playoffs. So playing a 6 or 7 game series can be a double-edged sword.

Maybe this team feeds better off a road crowd. I can guarantee you the Roc will be louder whether it’s from Devils fans or Rangers fans on Thursday night.

MSG was a huge disappointment and let down for these past two home games. Unfortunately, I would put a ton of it on the hardcore fans being priced out. Being at the game Saturday, it seemed the only loud ones were in the upper 200s past rows like 15. Even lower row 200s were $210 face value, I think. With the 100s, forget about it. The Garden is too concerned handing those tickets to celebrities to blast them on the big screen.
This is such a false narrative. The garden was dead because the players played like shit. It’s been that way for 20 years

Even last night on multiple occasions the garden tried to get going. But the rangers produced no sustained pressure, no cycling, no scrums, no fights, nothing

You want the garden to get up and go. The team also needs to get their heads out of their asses because a performance like that is not going to get any fan base out of their seats cheering

The bad news? I was there last night and not only did I have to watch that nonsense but now I have a massive Tuesday hangover.

The good news? The Rangers have decidedly been the better looking team. No excuse for the effort, but I'd rather be the team that handed out two shellings, then the team that barely eeked through on both wins.

Point is, put Panarin aside for a second. Too many other guys on this team slow the game down and they're not Panarin. Kakko comes to mind. He could be super effective, especially in this environment, if he just got the puck, cut to the slot, and either let it rip or passed it, like, yesterday. Instead, he curls around again trying to be Panarin and loses it. He's not fast, but he's a tank, and he could play fast.
It's a good point. Laffy falls into this trap & it never works. He's gotta keep his feet moving, make whatever play he's gonna make with pace.

The slow down thing works when the opponent expects you to go fast & they get thrown off balance and lanes open up. It also helps when they don't diligently backcheck the trailers.

But once the opponent knows this game they can stop it. Which good teams have been doing to the Rangers for a while now.

I said it to my father last night; there seems to be a disconnect between Gallant and Drury. Gallant wants to play a physical north-south game all the time. Can this top-6 honestly do this long-term? Long enough to win a Cup? Boston has the perfect mix of skill and grit, guys that drive the crease and intimidate. Shesterkin gets run over....nobody does a damn thing. Drury went out and got Kane and Tarasenko, but I would have as well. Why can't this team continue to play the way they did in games 1 and 2? It's all will. Yea, if you lose this series now, Zibanejad/Panarin, etc, everybody is available and don't be surprised if you are poolside in July and see a BREAKING text that says they shipped 93 or 10 out in a hockey trade.

I can attest to this, Garden was rocking, a lot. The effort/lack of any results 100p took a toll on the crowd. But we were still starting the LGR chants in the 3rd.

With all due respect, bullshit!

This was literally said of us last year against the Canes, and then we head stomped them Game 7! And unlike the Canes, the Devils really only played well last night, and even that isn't up to their standards.

We went from turning the crease into Casa del Kreider to no one even sniffing the crease, shots that are nowhere near target, overpassing themselves into oblivion, or as Panarin did in the middle of the ice, to virtually no one (How many times has he coughed up the puck?), and then sprinkle in boneheaded things like whatever the f*** Laf was doing: if the Devils came out flying like they did in the regular season, you'd have a point, but this is more of the Rangers shooting themselves in the foot, tossing the gun to the Devils and telling them there still is another round for the other foot.
It was said just year because we were slow last year. We're even slower this year. How does winning change that?

The topic of team speed is so weird on here. Every time we bring it up it's like "but didn't you see that time we won?" I didn't say we're bad, I said we're slow. We've been successful a lot of times but better speed would make is successful more consistently.

"We did it that one time do we can do it at will" is not how competition works.

why would i take that? We're not playing Boston here. This Rangers team can only respond when down or even.

Yeah, the reason Lafreniere has struggled at the NHL level is very simple and almost entirely boils down to him not moving his feet enough. When he's moving his feet and playing fast both with moving the puck and his decision making without it, he can be a legitimately good player. Not a star, but a decent 2nd liner.

The problem is he's in year 3 of his career and he has absolutely ZERO ability to do it at a consistent level. the vast majority of his career has been spent floating, coasting into checks, being late on pucks because he was coasting when he should've been moving his feet and not getting open and in lanes because he's not moving his feet.

If I am going to watch this puke, I would rather see the Kid Line develop by playing 18 mins+ a game. If they stuck to the plan that Colorado and others carry out, you would have Rantanen and Landeskog by now in Kakko and Laf. What a ****** shame.

As of the time of this post there still has been no MSG Post Game Show Commentary released.
If it ever is I will post it.
Thoughts are because Henrik Lundqvist and Steve Valliquette were so brutally honest and rightfully so on the will of the Ranger player’s that Drury may never allow it to be released.
Hope I’m wrong. All Ranger fan’s who support the team game in and game out deserve to hear it.

Said it before the game, the Rangers needed a catalyst last night.

Someone had to step up and play out of their head, make a big hit, fight. Something. I had a feeling the team was going to fall asleep within their own heads.

Almost too focused on being patient. Judging by some of the comments after the game I dont even think they realized how bad they looked. When they see the tape hopefully theyll realize there wasnt nearly enough desperation in their game.

They need to go into the Rock and play that game (and the following) like they are going to be eliminated if they lose. Because its pretty much at that point anyway

I wonder if he's getting coaching to help him with this. If it were me I'd standing on the bench yelling at him to skate harder. He's gone through phases of doing it better. Now he's reverted to "observer status" again.

speed in terms of what? straight line speed, reaction time? moving through the nz?

Rangers seem fast enough to me, I see overall disjointed play, overthinking... passing too fast/slow, flubbed shots, lack of aggressiveness, unwillingness to forecheck, crash the net

Yes. Kreider, Trochek, Tarasenko, Zib are all north -south players. The problem is sometimes you have to take what the other team is giving you. If the Devils are clogging the NZ, get pucks deep and go retrieve them. This isn't rocket science. The PP going ice-cold is another story. You can't go 0 for a million on home ice. One PP goal in either game and they're sitting on a 3-1 series lead at worst. They completely neutralized the Devils speed game they're just too dumb to realize the Devils did the same thing to them.

I like the kid and want him to succeed and am looking for any silver lining, but the reality is that if you didn't know Laf went 1OA and you watched him play this year and in this series, you'd think he was a 4th round, third line plugger. He's an NHL-caliber player -- just not a special one or even close.

Cold, hard truth is that he hasn't looked like a high draft pick, much less a 1OA, since his first game in the NHL. As others have said, there's nothing there to "worry about" showing itself in another organization. He's basically just a guy. No reason at all he couldn't be moved. If some team was willing to overpay for his "potential," I'd do it in a heartbeat and never look back.

Really, really sucks to draft 2OA and then 1OA back to back and come out of it with ... this. Extremely disappointing.

I turned the game off as soon as the puck went into the open net.

Are you saying they had no postgame show? Or just no postgame interviews from the players?
